Do you think it's just as good as the one that Mac is talking about?

No I am sure it is not; however, most of us arent running a triathalon and don't need to know all of things that Mac wants to know -- I would be happy to know weight, Water weight and body fat and that is what the scale Ruthi go at JC's does for you. It's also $50-$100 vs. $300 so of course it's not going to be anywhere near the quality of the one Mac wants.

All I can tell you is the one that I have is 2 yrs old now and it has both the muscle mass percentage along with the Water. It is accurate in that it matches my other doctor's scale. within a lb but then I am naked on my scale and clothed on his, so there is my 1 lb

No.

But no one *needs* the scale I want. It's just cool....

The main reason I want it is because of the handles. It shoots the current up your legs and also into your hands and that makes it more accurate.

I also want to watch my hydration levels building up to a race.

well if I can find a better one than the one I have while I am in Vegas, I will get it and ship it home. The one I have is okay, but it would be really cool to have a better one since we all know I am addicted to the scale and have no plans to change that.

Funny how before surgery, the scale is our enemy and we avoid it at all costs, and after surgery it is our new best friend that we can't wait to see and are even willing to spend a large amount of money on it. I am planning to head to bed, bath and beyond this weekend and see if I can pick one up that shows weight, Water weight, body fat and bmi.

If you find one be sure and share ... also I found out that they will take their coupons even if they are expired - I have a stack of $5 off and 20% off ... it's not a lot but it's better than nothing.

I think I'd better start keeping a list so we don't forget to get everything accomplished while you're here!

I didn't make it out shopping this weekend. My son started college last week. On Friday I got a phone call that he hadn't had a decent meal in a week, he was bored, out of clean clothes and was on his way to see me. I guess that officially makes me a parent of a college student, lol.

Anyways, I am going to go out one day after work this week and see about picking one up.

Unless there are electrodes attached to your skin, I don't believe any "scale" can actually measure you body composition. If you are going to buy such a scale, ask how the Water and fat are determined. My guess is the numbers are guess guestamates and not a real body composition measurement.

These scales use bio-impedance. They shoot electric current up your feet, basically.

They aren't as accurate as the dunk-tank method but they are good enough for most people. Of course, the more you spend, the better they are. The one your surgeon probably has costs about $1000 and is as good as bio-impedance gets. The one I have my eye on costs $300 and is as good as a personal scale can get.

Caliper can be more accurate, if the person knows what they are doing. But they can be wildly inaccurate if the person doesn't know what they are doing.

And, yeah, they are all an estimate, even the dunk tanks. But you have to start somewhere and it's not like a dunk tank is going to say your body fat % is 50 when it's really 20. :lol0:

I found a "healthometer" scale that measures weight, body fat, and hydration via impedence at Wally World. Under 40 bucks. It's made by Sunbeam.

It matches what I saw at my Dr's office so must be accurate.

I ordered the Ironman last night! Our scale got wet and the LCDs were too faint to read easily so that pushed me over the edge to get it. Then our scale came back to life. :confused1:

Gah, I need to get a new one. I am just so busy right now, I haven't had the chance. I probably won't until after our big fundraiser on the 29th.

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!

      Today was rough...
I've been experiencing a headache all day today that just won't go away. I'm thinking it's now progressing into a migraine. Does anyone else get headaches from taking vitamin B12? I did some research and learned that usually a lack of B12 causes headaches. But I've noticed when I take it, I have reoccurring headaches. 😫
