Protein Powders

Recommended Posts

I have my surgery scheduled for 7/10 so I have been trying many different Protein Drinks, powders, etc. for the post-op period. IDS Protein Shots are palatable but a lousy form of Protein (collagen), whey Gourmet powder was okay, a bit gritty. The peanut-butter chocolate was good. Lean Desserts:lol0: were my favorite, both mixed with Water (for the clear phase) and even better with skim milk (for the full liquid and beyond). My favorite is whipped vanilla, but the chocolate fudge and banana cream were also very good.

For clear liquid variety, (besides the protein), I found sugar free hawaiian punch powder in fruit juicy red (remember that!?), raspberry blue, and orange flavors. All are good, just dilute in more than the 16 oz water that they recommend because the flavor is strong. Of course, crystal light lemonades and flavored waters are ok, not my faves.

And since I am a self proclaimed diet coke-aholic, I am starting to wean myself off that, so far I haven't found something I like as much :-(

Anyone else that has tried other protein sources or have a clear drink "secret", let us all know!

I never did find a clear protein that didn't make me gag. Maybe someone else has better thoughts on the topic?

Where do you get unflavored Protein powder? Sounds like a great idea!

unjury Medical Quality Whey Protein Isolate. Great Tasting Whey Protein supplements for Everyday Health! High Protein and High Quality.

Unjury does have a very good quality protein but if you get a protein product at GNC and you don't like it you can return the opened container (with receipt) and get your money back.

What is the name of that clear liquid that you order online. For the life of me, I can't remember and I have been trying to think of it for days. It's that one made by the company that wanted you to work for them. Sytrex? The stuff I tasted wasn't bad.

Even if you find one you like pre-op, your tastes will most likely change post-op. So it's probably not worth trying them out now. Get them now... I ended up with something like 41 samples! ... but don't try them until later.

I don't think my taste has changed since surgery. I still crave sweets but I know that's all in my head. I am not hungry, but I still like the same things. I still like

Muscle Milk light, which WasA hates.

I am anxious to try the lean dessert when I get out of Arizona. I will report back on that Monday.

I can also look in my cupboard for that clear brand that you said the Twisted cherry is a good flavor. I can't remember the name of it and dont' know where you got it,

Mac.

Whey Protein is supposed to be a better Protein. It's more easily absorbed and give you more bang for the buck, is what I have been told.

nectar is a good clear protein made my Syntrax. YOu have to order it online. IT comes in different flavors. I remember Mac saying she liked Twisted cherry.< /p>

So many now taste gritty to me, also. I found The Vitamin Shoppe has several with 50 grams of Protein (2 scoops). I almost always get Vanilla and then add vanilla extract or left over coffee as well as fruit like blueberries or frozen mangoes or papaya.

My taste buds are so different - to the point of non-existent 3 months post-op.

I got the Lean Dessert brand from vitacost.com It's choc. coconut. It's not bad but it's not great either. It's thick even made with Water, if you like your shakes thicker. It's not gritty.

One scoop is 20 grams of Protein and 130 calories.

I think the next time I do a vitacost order, I'll try the banana bread flavor. So far my favorite is still whey gourmet Peanut Butter chocolate.

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
