Hey everyone, made Water goal yesterday -

barb - I have the same thing! It seems I'm thirsty all the time even though I'm drinking between 110-120 ouces a day. It is weird.

bubbyville - I'm sorry you've been so ill, your poor body to be going through all that after surgery. It's a great weight loss, but not the way you wanted to lose it I'm sure! Take care of your health, with being ill so long you might be low on electrolytes, and may want to swap out water and drink something like pedialyte or gatorade. Or you can make your own electrolyte water with something like crystal light and adding a 1/4 teaspoon of potassium based no-salt salt substitute, and 1/4 teaspoon of salt and 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda in one litre of Fluid. I do it with the lemon/lime flavor so that the saltiness of it reminds me of margaritas and doesn't bug me as much, LOL. Ideally there should be some sugar/glucose in it too, but that's optional if you want to avoid sugar calories.

Randi - sorry to hear about the divorce in your family and about your infections. Try not to worry about your grandson, he's quite young and will probably adjust very well to the changes. I completely agree with the 'don't buy it' sentiment. I had to go a step further and request from my husband that he not buy junk either. He can eat whatever he wants, but to eat only a single serving size for him not buy a big bag of Cookies or something to have in the house. He's totally fine with it and very supportive. So our kitchen is junk and temptation free, it makes it so much easier. He's eating better too because if he wants something he has to make a special trip for it.

housecatgirl, I was wondering where you were at! Lecithin is on my list of supplements to buy still. I've turned into a Vitamin and supplement junkie, with a growing collection of bottles in my little 'pharmacy'. Glad to know it doesn't add flavor to anything as some of the things I've decided to take are down right yucky, and the tablets are big, so I have to crush or chew them.. blech!

Devana - congrats on the compliments, and yes! join the water challenge!!!! Even if you don't make goal it encourages you to get more in, and that's what's important.

Congrats to everyone else who is making water goals too! Woo!!! Should we add a second weekly challenge on for August?

XO

Leila

Good idea Leila! How about an exercise/walking goal for August? Water and exercise are probably the most important elements in making this surgery a success (besides what/how much food we eat.)

I'm in for a Christmas goal also!

Good Morning Junbies!!! I made my Water goal last night. I had 64 ounces of water and about 10 ounces of tea.

I am in for everything. As far as the christmas challenge thats fine to set our own individual goal. We just need to decide how we are going to do everything. August challenge for exercise would be great too...i need that.

I live in LaPlace, Louisiana.

Count me in for X-mas exchange.:biggrin1:

Leila, Yes the Lecithin I got (powdered in a dark glass jar) doesn't taste bad at all when mixed with apple juice. I haven't tried mixing it with anything else yet. There is a recipe on the jar I might try though.:Banane56:

So, restriction seems to not be in evidence after this second fill after all. Today we were travelling, pulled into a Wendy's for lunch, I got their southwestern salad. Promptly threw away the dressing, sour cream, and taco chip strips, and poured the chili over the salad and started to slllllooooooowly eat it, tiny bites, chewing well... well, I ate the whole thing, and it was enormous, definitely no restriction. I was hungry, it was probably at least two cups in volume, more like 3, and it went down sooooo easy. I'm calling on monday and making an appointment for fill #3. I was sure I had that sneaky elusive restriction this time, but no go. We had already left Ontario Canada where my surgeon is, in New York the last couple of days, and the Wendy's was in Pennsylvania... erg! Now we're back in New York making our way back to my surgeon in Canada. Blargh! This time I'll be hanging around for sure until restriction is evident before heading out travelling again. I'm also going to ask him to take out my fill to make sure I don't have a leak or anything, and make sure the saline is still in there before adding more! At least I pigged out on something healthy - LOL.

I was banded June 9, and thought it was about time I joined the crew. I'm still unfilled, and lately, I seem to be hungry a lot, so I took your cue and started drinking more Water. So far today 50 oz. We'll see if it helps. Good luck everyone!

How many of you read the 40 pound loss part and silently said

"wow, maybe I need to get the flu"

You know you did.

Well, I did.

I admit I did! I don't think I lost any this week. I'll see in the morning as Sunday is weight and measure day! Maybe overnight I will lose a few pounds.

Got my Water in again...94 OZ I need to count my calories some day cause I have no idea how many I consume in a day. I don't think it is very many.

Randi you caught me. I always look to see what everyone has lost! I'm thinking maybe I should let them overfill me. I lost 8 lbs that week!!! :Banane56:

I really ate alot for dinner last night. I then had a snack afterwards. I didn't have much for Breakfast or lunch. Definitely going in for the fill. I have no restriction and self control is starting to wane.

Hope everyone has a good day today. Welcome Cathy to our group. This is the best support group you can ever find.

:welcomeB: to the June Band Crew Cathy!!!!

We are all here to help one another. I don't post that much but i love reading what all my fellow junbies have to say. I am starting to post more because i really would love to get to know everyone on here.

I got all my Water in yesterday but i was soooooooo bad. I ate icing off of a piece of cake. Not just a lick.....i ate about 3 tablespoons and it was good but i felt really guilty after i had done it. It was my sons b-day cake. Well i took care of it...i threw it out.....my family said they didnt want anymore of it so out it went. I have been snacking on sunflower seeds but they are so high in fat. What do yall snack on?

I started today...i always journal all my food and liquid intake. So on each new day i am going to write a goal and show my family and try to achieve that goal for the day and if i dont i know they will rag me so it gives me that push to make sure i accomplish that goal.

I read in a People magazine that Kirstie Alley danced for exercise. She also said that on Oprah. I made me a cd with some songs that had line dances to them that last for 30 minutes. I am going to try and do that everyday. I love to dance so we will see. What kind of exercise do any of you do?

Welcome to Cathy. I have been laxed in posting for the last week. I have been keeping busy around my house. I have cleaned out my closet and been focusing on me time while I am in my only available three weeks during the summer. Fall semester starts early this year, so my time is limited.

I have lost a total of 41 lbs to date. Which is a victory in itself. I haven't exercised in a week, but when I do it is on the treadmill majority of the time. Who can feel like exercising when it is 103 degrees outside?? Any tips on that?? Yeah I can exercise in the house, but I was outside working in the yard and it drained me! I have had my alarm set for an earlier time every day last week but only got up to take my time getting ready for work. How sad is that???

Water/fluid intake I am doing quite well. Although, how much better would it be with exercise??

Anyway.. just wanted to pop in and say hi to my fellow Junesters.. Hope all is treating you well...

I love my Leslie Sansone Walk Fit tape. It's 45 minutes--so I do some chores for the first 20 minutes or so. My 24 year old son thinks high stepping while I unload the dishwasher is hilarious. I get bored exercising by myself--so I sometimes call a friend who doesn't care if I'm breathing heavy or have her on "speaker".:banana

So I guess after gastric bypass surgery, I cant eat flock chips because they are fried???  They sell them on here so I thought I could have them. So high in protein and no carbs.  They don't bother me at all.  Help.

It's possible for a very high fat meal to cause dumping in some (30% or so) gastric bypass patients, although it's more likely to be triggered by high sugar, or by the high fat/high sugar combo (think ice cream, donuts). Dietitians will tell you to never do anything that isn't 100% healthy ever again. Realistically, you should aim for a good balance of protein, carbs, and fat each day. Should you eat fried foods every day? No. Is it possible they will make you sick? Maybe. Is it okay to eat some to see what happens and have them for a treat every now and again? Yes.

I'm not at all hungry on this liquid pre-op diet, but I miss the sensation of chewing. It's been about two weeks––surgery is in two days––and I can't imagine how I'll feel a couple of weeks post-op. Tonight, I randomly stumbled upon a mukbang channel on YouTube, and it was strangely soothing... is it just me, or is this a thing?

I actually watched cooking shows during my pre-op, like Great British Baking Show. It was a little bizarre, but didn't make me hungry. I think it was also soothing in a way.

How do you figure out what your ideal weight should be? I've had a figure in my head for years, but after 3 mths of recovery I'm already almost there. So maybe my goal should be lower?

      1. NickelChip

Well, there is actually a formula for "Ideal Body Weight" and you can use a calculator to figure it out for you. This one also does an adjusted weight for a person who starts out overweight or obese. https://www.mdcalc.com/calc/68/ideal-body-weight-adjusted-body-weight

I would use that as a starting point, and then just see how you feel as you lose. How you look and feel is more important than a number.

      2. Clueless_girl

I did find different calculators but I couldn't find any that accounted for body frame. But you're right, it is just a number. It was just disheartening to see that although I lost 60% of my excess weight, it's still not in the "normal/healthy" range..

Tomorrow marks two weeks since surgery day and while I'm feeling remarkably well and going about just about every normal activity, I did wind up with a surface abscess on on of my incision sights and was put on an antibiotic that made me so impacted that it took me more than two hours to eliminate yesterday and scared the hell out of me. Now there's Miralax in all my beverages that aren't Smooth Move tea. I cannot experience that again. I shouldn't have to take Ativan to go to the lady's. I really looking forward to my body getting with the program again.
I'm in day three of the "puree" stage of eating and despite the strange textures, all of the savory flavors seem decadent.
I timed this surgery so that I'd be recovering during my spring break. That was a good plan. Today is a state holiday and the final day of break. I feel really strong to return to school tomorrow.

Now that I'm in maintenance mode, I'm getting a into a routine for my meals. Every day, I start out with 8-16 ounces of water, and then a proffee, which I have come to look forward to even the night before. My proffees are simply a black coffee with a protein powder added. There are three products that I cycle through: Premier Vanilla, Orgain Vanilla, and Dymatize Vanilla.
For second breakfast on workdays, I will have a low-fat yogurt with two tablespoons of PBFit and two teaspoons of no sugar added dried cherries. I will have ingested 35-45 grams of protein at this point between the two breakfasts, with 250-285 calories, and about 20 carbs.
For second breakfast on non-workdays, I will prepare two servings of plain, instant oatmeal with a tablespoon of an olive oil-based spread. This means I will have had 34 grams of protein, 365 calories, and 38 carbs. Non-workdays are when I am being very active with training sessions, so I allow myself more carbohydrate fuel.
Snacks on any day are always mixed nuts, even when I am travelling. I will have 0.2 cups of a blend that I make myself. It consists of dry roasted peanuts, cashews, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, pistachios, and Brazil nuts. This is 5 grams of protein, 163 calories, and 7 carbs.
Breakfast and snacks have been the easiest to nail down. Lunch and dinner have more variables, and I prepare enough for leftovers. I concentrate on protein first, and then add vegetables. Typically tempeh, tofu, or Field Roast products with roasted or sautéed vegetables. Today, I will be eating leftovers from last night. Two ounces of tempeh with four ounces of roasted vegetables that consist of red and yellow sweet peppers, sweet potatoes, small purple potatoes, zucchini, and carrots. I will add a tablespoon of olive oil-based spread, break up 3 walnuts to sprinkle of top, and garnish with two tablespoons of grated Parmesan cheese. This particular meal will be 19 grams of protein, 377 calories, and 28 grams of carbs. Bear in mind that I do eat more carbs when I am not working, and I focus on ingesting healthy carbs instead of breads/crackers/chips/crisps.
It's a helluva journey and I'm thankful to be on it!
