no longer have restriction

Recommended Posts

ok. I got my 6th fill on the 25th of July. Before I went in I had good restriction. If I ate anything the size of a quarter or nickel it would get super stuck. After my fill, no restriction. My stomach is getting full, but big bites and not chewing well are not bothering me. Sometimes I can feel my liquids coming back up. I don't understand why Im able to eat without getting stuck. Is this a case where my fill will kick in? Why was a tighter before my fill?

Hi , I feel the same , I finally had my first restriction, after many fills, however 3 weeks later , I feel no restriction again..., I've been trying to figure this out. I go back for another fill in about week , and will try to get an answer. I'm starting to feel as though my band is not working for me.... Keep me updated on ur restriction :-)

I have never personally experienced it, but I have read about some people who get a fill and end up filling looser than pre-fill. This could be a variety of things, but it does happen.

How many fills have you had? Are you struggling with the size of bites you eat? Its hard when you can't actually feel the food or restriction. I feel like its not working for me right as well.

Do you know what things could be causing this?

First, if I went in to my Dr. with good restriction, there would be no good reason to give me another fill....

Are you sure he did not take a small amount out? Telling your Dr. you were getting "Super Stuck" on food the size of a nickel would/could raise a red flag to some....

Also, I'm not clear on your "Stomach" getting full....

People speak of "Feeling" restriction.....that was never the goal of the lap band surgery IMO, although I do feel swallowing from time to time...even with Water, but not always.

The goal is "Portion Control" whether you feel anything or not.....

Last night watching TV, I had some raw veggies and dip for a snack....3-4 small pieces of carrot and celery, ans I could not continue...period. I ate very little, but knew I could not take another bite. I did not "Feel" anything other than the inability to over eat...that's portion control! That's the band talking! Bottom line that snack was next to nothing. And that is how it is with everything I eat anytime of the day.

After any fill, I always took it easy for a day or 2, all liquids, let things settle down....

I was not in the green zone before my 6th fill. It wasn't saturating my hunger. I felt my restriction but now I don't. You mentioned feeling the swallowing. That's exactly it. I felt the swallowing before and now I don't. For me, I need to feel that because it helps with bite size and recognizing when to take another bite. I do not have control. That's how I got fat. Feeling it DEFINITELY helps with my control. Now that I can't feel it I'm struggling.

I posed this question last month when I went to my appt. he said that the band is put around the stomach and any visceral fat that is there. So, you can feel great, good restriction, little hunger, and then bam! Hungry all the time like you don't even have the band. This is because you are losing that visceral fat that just melts away leaving more space with the band.

I'm thinking that it is a coincidence and that your fill came exactly as you were melting away visceral fat.

Another fill will fix that! Call your dr and move up your next appt if you can. That's what I do.

There are several cases where you may feel less restriction after a fill than before. One, which MiniMi addressed is that you could be losing fat around your stomach making it leaner and the band feel looser around it. Two, you were dehydrated, stressed, or something else that was keeping you tight and now you feel looser because of something else that has nothing to do with the fill. Perhaps you weren't getting enough Fluid in before so you dehydrated making your band tighter. Now you're getting more fluids in and you feel looser. Third, you've dilated your pouch or something else could be wrong. Sometimes people get a sudden feeling of relief when something is wrong with their band. This would probably be followed by acid reflux, night coughs, or possibly some other symptom.

Honestly, there were many times I got fills, had restriction initially, then it just went away as the swelling went down and I lost more weight. I would go from barely being able to drink a Protein shake right after the fill to being able to eat a whopper with a bun a few weeks later. I can't remember ever being tight at the time of getting a fill, getting a fill and immediately feeling looser though.

I am getting banded aug 5th and was at my surgeons office today for final clearances. I was also informed that my fills are not covered u der insurance and will cost 155 per fill.

Has anyone had to pay for fills? And if so is 155.00 normal?

Why did you get another fill if you had restriction?

Because I wasn't in green zone yet. I didn't have full restriction and my hunger wasn't saturated.

My insurance covers fills. Only so many though. 155 is cheap. My Dr's office charges 250.

When I got my fill she said she took some back out because I was too tight. She said she only pulled out .1cc, though. I'm beginning to think she took out more then that or I have a leak.

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
