April 2006 Bandsters/what am I gonna do when I lose first 20kgs/44pounds

Recommended Posts

Hello my fellow badsters/bandits :biggrin1:

I made a commitment, once I lose my first 20kgs I will treat myself to Louis Vuitton or any designer bag I like:nervous

I know it might sound a bout superficial but I always wanted one and there was no real reason to get it:biggrin1: Its gonna be my prize for the half way victory:biggrin1:

I just hope that I will reach the point soon.

Today I got my stitches out and it was quite ok.Since the surgery I lost 7,5pounds.That doesnt look to much to me.I guess its better than nothing:-)

Have a great day everybody!

I have not thought that far ahead ... yet! But -30kg will be my wedding day weight and i want to Celebrate my birthday 21 December in my wedding gown. I have challenged all my friends to also wear their clothes that they had on that day to the party. Think it's gonna be great fun. First time ever i planned a birthday party 8 months in advance...hehehe!!!

For me, I have a lot of weird goals. My first goal is to be a size 20 before June 18th. My husband's work is having their annual banquet that day, and I refuse to buy anything new to wear to it, which means I have to be a 20 to get into something old. To do that, I think I will need to lose another 15-20 pounds - around 225-230. I hope I can do that.

Other goals:

217 pounds - My prepregnancy weight for my daughter

199 - Duh, I think we all know why I want this one

176 - My prepregnancy weight for my son

150-160 - Goal. I would like to hit this mark before my 30th birthday. One year away.

I would like to be 217 by my 10th wedding anniversary on August 17th. I would like to be in a size 16 by Christmas.

262/257/245/160

When I get to 299, I'm getting a kick@ss haircut at a super fancy salon. Might be as soon as next month!

When I get to 249 I'm getting 2 placesettings of my china that I can't really afford but love.

When I get to 199 I'm getting the watch I'll wear for the rest of my life (I don't have it picked out yet).

When I get to 149, I'm taking a 2 week vacation to Fiji. Wahoo!

It's all very materialistic, but it keeps me thinking about the future and not being so caught up in the LOOONNNNGGG journey ahead of me.

So what shall I do for my 20kg loss, I wanna have a goal with a pressie for me like you guys now!!!

I shall.............treat myself to a massage and facial..........mmmmm that will be nice. I hope to be at 90 kgs in 2 months time......

My other goal in the next two months is to learn to love the gym again!!!!:clap2: Good thread Efficka!!!!!

Not sure it is a real "goal" but one of the things I want to do as soon as I lose a good portion of my weight is to have a family portrait done...that I like! And then I can send it to everyone, and be proud of it!

Ya know, I have been reading this thread, and it occured to me. We all are soo terribly used to rewarding ourselves with food, that when we treat ourselves with "stuff" we worry about be materialistic.

I didnt realise it at glance at this post, but its becoming clearer. I know I need these "superficial goals" and they last longer and are much more fun than the food I *reward* myself with. Bah-humbug guilt!

One more thing to work on.

And I think I will be more than happy to reward myself like a person, with stuff. Rather than reward myself like my dog, with food.

No more guilt!!!!!!!!!

You reach that weight, you get that dress, that vacation, that $$$$ handbag!

No more guilt!

My husband has promised that when I get to 200 I get my plasma screen TV. I am psyched for that one. It's still 50lbs away but I am working on it. As far as when I get another 25 down - I think I will go for a day at the spa - no kids, no hubbie just me and a really good book ready to be pampered. Pedicure, manicure, facial, massage - let's face it everyone - we are working hard we deserve our treats.

I don't know Eva. I gained back 2 #, and have been stalled at 15.5 # since the beginning of last week. Right now, 29 more #'s sounds like a lot. Since I'm a lot older than a lot of you, and have no young ones at home I am ALWAYS very good to myself. Honestly, I'm going to have to give this some more thought. I started my walking today. 15 min. on the treadmill. It's been maybe 5 years since I've done any exercise, so this is a big challenge for me.

I've been on solid food for about 3 weeks now and I'm losing SLOWLY. Thank goodness my first fill is next Monday. I'm doing pretty good about keeping my portion sizes down, but it is a struggle some days, so I know it's time.

My first goal is to buy something new for my 20 year high school reunion. It's June 9th and 10th and I'm shooting for 250 lbs. by that weekend. That's just my goal, if I get close I still get a new outfit because I'm beginning to move down in sizes in my closet anyway and I won't have anything semi-dressy for our Saturday night festivities. I know I won't be as small as I was for my 10 year reunion, but I will be smaller than I am now.

I have a few long term goals, but also try to keep some short term motivation by getting charms for my charm Bracelet. Never seen someone so happy the other day to add a 3 dollar charm to my stainless steel italian charm bracelet! I add a charm for ever 5lbs lost. It will take me too the big 100lbs lost mark.

My next goal is to to hit 50lbs. I told myself I'd go get my upper ear repierced then. Only a few more lbs to go!

at 69lbs lost I'll be in onederland.....so I thought it approriate because of the number to plan a getaway even if for one night at a hotel with hubby!

At 100lbs lost I get to go ahead and start working on the tummy tuck! After Tummy Tuck and at goal which is another 18lbs I plan to get a really sexy tattoo on my lower back.

I need to come up with something cool to do for 75lbs lost.........I'm sure I'll think of something! LOL

So I guess after gastric bypass surgery, I cant eat flock chips because they are fried???  They sell them on here so I thought I could have them. So high in protein and no carbs.  They don't bother me at all.  Help.

It's possible for a very high fat meal to cause dumping in some (30% or so) gastric bypass patients, although it's more likely to be triggered by high sugar, or by the high fat/high sugar combo (think ice cream, donuts). Dietitians will tell you to never do anything that isn't 100% healthy ever again. Realistically, you should aim for a good balance of protein, carbs, and fat each day. Should you eat fried foods every day? No. Is it possible they will make you sick? Maybe. Is it okay to eat some to see what happens and have them for a treat every now and again? Yes.

I'm not at all hungry on this liquid pre-op diet, but I miss the sensation of chewing. It's been about two weeks––surgery is in two days––and I can't imagine how I'll feel a couple of weeks post-op. Tonight, I randomly stumbled upon a mukbang channel on YouTube, and it was strangely soothing... is it just me, or is this a thing?

I actually watched cooking shows during my pre-op, like Great British Baking Show. It was a little bizarre, but didn't make me hungry. I think it was also soothing in a way.

How do you figure out what your ideal weight should be? I've had a figure in my head for years, but after 3 mths of recovery I'm already almost there. So maybe my goal should be lower?

Well, there is actually a formula for "Ideal Body Weight" and you can use a calculator to figure it out for you. This one also does an adjusted weight for a person who starts out overweight or obese. https://www.mdcalc.com/calc/68/ideal-body-weight-adjusted-body-weight

I would use that as a starting point, and then just see how you feel as you lose. How you look and feel is more important than a number.

      2. Clueless_girl

I did find different calculators but I couldn't find any that accounted for body frame. But you're right, it is just a number. It was just disheartening to see that although I lost 60% of my excess weight, it's still not in the "normal/healthy" range..

      3. NickelChip

I think it's important to remember that the weight charts and BMI ranges were developed a very long time ago and only intended to be applied to people who have never been overweight or obese. Those numbers aren't for us. When you are larger, especially for a long time, your body develops extra bone to support the weight. Your organs get a little bigger to handle the extra mass. Your entire infrastructure increases so you can support and function with the extra weight. That doesn't all go away just because you burn off the excess fat. If you still had a pair of jeans from your skinniest point in life and then lost weight to get to the exact number on the scale you were when those jeans fit you, chances are they would be a little baggy now because you would actually be thinner than you were, even though the scale and the BMI chart disagree. When in doubt, listen to the jeans, not the scale!

Tomorrow marks two weeks since surgery day and while I'm feeling remarkably well and going about just about every normal activity, I did wind up with a surface abscess on on of my incision sights and was put on an antibiotic that made me so impacted that it took me more than two hours to eliminate yesterday and scared the hell out of me. Now there's Miralax in all my beverages that aren't Smooth Move tea. I cannot experience that again. I shouldn't have to take Ativan to go to the lady's. I really looking forward to my body getting with the program again.
I'm in day three of the "puree" stage of eating and despite the strange textures, all of the savory flavors seem decadent.
I timed this surgery so that I'd be recovering during my spring break. That was a good plan. Today is a state holiday and the final day of break. I feel really strong to return to school tomorrow.

Now that I'm in maintenance mode, I'm getting a into a routine for my meals. Every day, I start out with 8-16 ounces of water, and then a proffee, which I have come to look forward to even the night before. My proffees are simply a black coffee with a protein powder added. There are three products that I cycle through: Premier Vanilla, Orgain Vanilla, and Dymatize Vanilla.
For second breakfast on workdays, I will have a low-fat yogurt with two tablespoons of PBFit and two teaspoons of no sugar added dried cherries. I will have ingested 35-45 grams of protein at this point between the two breakfasts, with 250-285 calories, and about 20 carbs.
For second breakfast on non-workdays, I will prepare two servings of plain, instant oatmeal with a tablespoon of an olive oil-based spread. This means I will have had 34 grams of protein, 365 calories, and 38 carbs. Non-workdays are when I am being very active with training sessions, so I allow myself more carbohydrate fuel.
Snacks on any day are always mixed nuts, even when I am travelling. I will have 0.2 cups of a blend that I make myself. It consists of dry roasted peanuts, cashews, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, pistachios, and Brazil nuts. This is 5 grams of protein, 163 calories, and 7 carbs.
Breakfast and snacks have been the easiest to nail down. Lunch and dinner have more variables, and I prepare enough for leftovers. I concentrate on protein first, and then add vegetables. Typically tempeh, tofu, or Field Roast products with roasted or sautéed vegetables. Today, I will be eating leftovers from last night. Two ounces of tempeh with four ounces of roasted vegetables that consist of red and yellow sweet peppers, sweet potatoes, small purple potatoes, zucchini, and carrots. I will add a tablespoon of olive oil-based spread, break up 3 walnuts to sprinkle of top, and garnish with two tablespoons of grated Parmesan cheese. This particular meal will be 19 grams of protein, 377 calories, and 28 grams of carbs. Bear in mind that I do eat more carbs when I am not working, and I focus on ingesting healthy carbs instead of breads/crackers/chips/crisps.
It's a helluva journey and I'm thankful to be on it!
