So I just met my lap band surgeon... I usually meet with the physicians assistant bc I go on Saturdays... He goes "why are you here you're skinny!" Ugh no I'm not and now I'm nervous they won't approve it! It's like yea I may be skinny compared to your patients but I'm not skinny! By any stretch of the imagination! :-/ rough morning...

What is your BMI? Maybe he just wanted you to feel better? It is important in my opinion to have a good relationship with the surgeon. If your makes you uncomfortable, may try a different doctor in the practice? Just a thought! Good luck!

I wouldn't read anything negative into his comments. Regarding the surgery, that will depend on your BMI and whether your insurance covers you or not. Some insurances require a co-morbidity for BMI under 40. The only reason most doctors won't do surgery would be related to your cardio, upper GI or bloodwork results.

Don't sweat it, many Dr.'s and surgeons in particular have really off beat sense of humors.

You may appear skinny compared to the 40+ BMI patients these surgeons see every week. I wouldn't be concerned with getting approved since it's up to the insurance company if you qualify. The doctor doesn't make any money if he doesn't perform surgery.

I actually had a couple of comments like that from my lapband "team" of professionals... the psychologist told me that I should be prepared that the weight may come off more slowly for me as I am such a "small" woman!! LOL have not associated the word "small" with myself for a very long time... also one of the nurses said something similar... but at the same time, I am having health problems because I am carrying around a lot of extra weight!! and the rest of the world certainly doesn't think I'm small!! In any case, here I am and I got the surgery ;) good luck to you :)

I am 5'5" and was 235 at my last weigh in. I am type 2 diabetic and have high blood pressure, sleep apnea. I'm looking to have lap band surgery in September. Sadly no one has called me skinny and I wouldn't buy it if they did. I'm not able to wear my size 16s and don't have many 18s in the closet. I cannot wait to get started with the weight loss. I have first meeting with a personal trainer on monday. Just signed up at the gym too......

Same with pants for me too... 16s are tight and 18s are big... Or they just look awful - either way I hate wearing anything other than sweat pants lol

I had hypertension, had labs drawn in jan that showed high triglycerides, and pcos. According to my insurance I only needed 1 comorbidity. But I had 3 off of their list. We should stay in touch:)

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!

      Today was rough...
I've been experiencing a headache all day today that just won't go away. I'm thinking it's now progressing into a migraine. Does anyone else get headaches from taking vitamin B12? I did some research and learned that usually a lack of B12 causes headaches. But I've noticed when I take it, I have reoccurring headaches. 😫
