First Ride of the Year

Recommended Posts

Ok, I put aside my vanity and wore my baggy cool weather gear and went out for a ride. 47 degrees, but not a bad way to burn 672 calories in 50 minutes. The part that is really an NSV? While it isn't my fastest time, it is less than a 1/2 MPH off of my fastest and I haven't been on my bike since October of last year when I was 35 pounds heavier than I am now. I definitely noticed that the hills didn't seem as steep, and I didn't seem out of breath. Several weeks of spin class can take some credit, but the weight loss is the real champion.

I went for an hour ride on Thursday. It snowed 8 inches here yesterday so it'll be a few days before I can go again.

Do you use any fitness apps with your chest monitor? I use cyclemeter with my Polar H6 heart rate monitor. I use the cyclemeter for bike rides but if I work out indoors I use the polar app. See below:

Actually, I conned my family into giving me my BD present a few days early, my bike has a new computer (Garmin 510) which integrates with my iPhone to upload the data to garmin connect, as well as the garmin connect app. One of the nice things that I really like is that it records temp and shows that information as part of the ride. I am really anal about keeping objective stats concerning exercise, and there have been a few times when I chose not to exercise because the battery on my garmin HRM was dead.

Great ride guys! I've been fortunate to get in a couple outdoor rides here near st. louis so far this year. Did 33 miles yesterday, but I must say, I'm SO jealous of you guys using the HRM and keeping good track of everything. I feel lost and not really knowing where to start and/or what to buy. I think I'll just go to my local cycling shop and tell them what i want and take suggestions from there. Like yesterday, I rode 33.3 miles in 2:18 min for an avg of 14.4mph. Both programs I use show about 2300-2400 calories burned. Seems way high to me.... I'm about 230#'s and when I check my HR, it shows around 135-145 bpm.

I use polar H6 chest strap with my Iphone cyclemeter app. The app is maybe $4 and the strap is $60.

And on the other side of the world....I haven't ridden today because it is flat out too hot! Probably the hottest day of summer (which officially finished 11 days ago) so I did all my jobs early and have been inside with the air con on ever since.

But I will be cycling to work tomorrow and then home again, regardless of the weather. Gotta keep on training for our big ride in April.

I want to live in Oz during the Winter! I am definitely sick of the cold and snow in Utah this year, although it could be worse. I am just looking forward to hitting the hiking and biking trails.

Aint it great to not carry around those 40 lbs on a bike ride? We have cats and buy the 20 lb bags of litter. I pick one of those up and think to myself, I've lost(fat) the equivalent of 2.5 of these. You can relate if you have dogs and buy the 20 lb dog bags? Going to be 70 degrees here by Friday and I'm looking forward to more long bike rides.

Ok, Rode hard yesterday and planned on taking it easy in Spin Class today, not so much, Spin Instructor and I got a little competitive, and I am now limping from a pulled calf muscle. That's ok, I went in there on empty, dug deep and at least kept up with him.

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!

      Today was rough...
I've been experiencing a headache all day today that just won't go away. I'm thinking it's now progressing into a migraine. Does anyone else get headaches from taking vitamin B12? I did some research and learned that usually a lack of B12 causes headaches. But I've noticed when I take it, I have reoccurring headaches. 😫
