Throw that scale away!!!

Recommended Posts

I'm far from a success story, but I know the scale can be your bestfriend and your worse enemy, and that's based off my failed diet attempts in the past. I only weigh myself at doctors appts. I see post on the forum about others not losing weight, my dr recommended that I not own one because of the pressure. Our happiness should not lie on the numbers but on how well we feel. Just a friendly message to my fellow bandsters. It will be okay, take one day at a time. Occupy your time by doing other things. Its not a race ;) Love you guys!! Have a great weekend

I think scales, like all things with weight loss, are a matter of doing what's best for you.

I know others that only weigh in at doctor's appointments and do great. As for myself, I weigh myself every day. In fact, I normally check my weight both morning and night. For me, it holds me accountable and works. I got to over 400 pounds avoiding scales so owning and using one is crucial for me.

Do what works for you :)

Best wishes!

It's all in how you look at the scale. It doesn't have to be your enemy but if you don't weigh yourself you can't stay accountable for your behavior of eating. I do weigh myself twice a day however I don't let the number reflect unhappiness. I use it to keep myself from going back up to 300lbs.

I weigh every day. I have to keep track of myself and what I eat during the day depends on what I weighed that morning. Upticks don't discourage me, they motivate me.

I do the scale once a week. I weigh my food and put whatever I eat into the fitness pal ap to keep track. Then I don't stress even if the scale doesn't move or even might go up. I know the ship will right itself. A few weeks ago, just when I was starting on mushies and real food, the scale didn't really move for two weeks. Then the weight started to drop again. I was 17 lbs. down when I was banded after two weeks on the pre-op diet and since then, I've lost another 12 lbs. Nearly 30 since January 1st. I'm very pleased with that.

I think as long as you're in the right mindset, and KNOW that the scale is not going to go down every single day, the scale can be a good, helpful thing! I personally find weighing myself everyday helps me stay on track, and it has also helped me get to know my body.

I will not and can not weigh myself every day but through this site I have learned that everyone is different and some people find themselves more accountable to weigh more often then I do. Same thing with calories. If I had to count the numbers would trip me. I understand for most it is a neccesity.

weighing in every day and counting my calories is a necessity for me, I don't even think twice about it anymore. I know that for me, if I want to keep this weight off, it's what I need to do.

Same here! I did a diet program once called "Quick Weight Loss" (it was like weight watchers) and they wanted me to come in almost DAILY for weigh ins and to get measurements. It was maddening. My parents use to make me weigh daily as well as a kid, and it caused the same stress. In both instances it was like gaining weight made me a bad person!

So umm yeah, I don't do scales. I just relish in NSVs.

I don't think "throwing the scale away" works for everyone, maybe it works for you. For me once a week works. I tried weighing in everyday and the natural flucuations drove me crazy. I am accountable to myself for what I put in my mouth and the exersise I do, I don't need to weigh in everyday to feel accountable. However, I do need to use the scale as a general guideline on my progress. Everyone is different, it's a matter of what works for you.

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
