Keiloid scarring

Recommended Posts

I was wondering how many lapbanders have experienced keiloid scarring (raised scars that itch and are very unsightly) as a result of their lapband surgery?? I have had my lapband for over 6 months and most people I have talked to have said their scars are fading and they don't have a keiloid scar (including my husband whose scars are almost invisible now), I have really been depressed because 3 of my 5 scars are keiloids including the scar near my port---it looks like a stab wound. If you do have a keiloid that is healing, what have you done that has helped???

Thanks

Denise

I've heard where people use Vitamin E oil and others have used Polysporin. Some have said Polysporin helped with the scarring. I dont know.

My scars aren't going to be too bad I don't think...but after I lose 125 lbs I'm going to need a Tummy Tuck anyway so that will get rid of that.

Did I say tummy tuck? I'll probably need more like a BODY TUCK!

Do they do those??? LOL

Hi Denise,

One of my scars turned into a Keloid. It looks like the one at my bra is starting to keloid after 8 months??? Strange. You can go to a dermatologist and get injections to try to shrink them down. I think they inject cortisone and try to get rid of the Water pouch which forms under the keloid. It is my understanding that they do come back sometimes, so it might not be worth the money to have it done. I have not decided what to do about it yet, so for now, love your body anyway!!!

I don't have keloids, but I don't like my scars as they are either... so I have been using the Curad's Scar Therapy and it seems to be helping a lot. I didn't see anything on the instructions about keloids, but if you cannot afford to see a dermatologist as suggested by Denise... probably the right way to go :D ... you might try those first. They are about $15.00 for a 21 day supply, but that is assuming you only have 1 scar to treat. I am cutting them to size and covering all 5 of my scars... 2 of which are almost unnoticable.

Take Care,

Hi Chris,

I have darker skin, so I wouldn't say that my scars are purple... but they were dark pink and raised slightly above the skin when I started the Curad's Scar Therapy. I have noticed that they have turned from pink to brown and are still a few shades darker than my natural skin color... but I know from past scars that this is the normal process my body follows. Eventually, the color should fade and even out more with my natural skin tone... but I think that the Scar Therapy will help to smooth and level out the appearance. There is no medication on the pads, but for some reason they seem to help.

I will provide another update once I am done with the 21 day treatment. The instructions say that it does work faster when the scars are new.

Hope this info is helpful.

such helpful advice, that has been one thing I have been discouraged about, I will try the curad product you recommended, it can't hurt right??? I don't remember having keloids until the last 5 years or so, with this surgery, and when I had a couple moles removed. someone told me about a product made from the extract of snails that might work. EEyew, but, it might be something to try too.

Hi Denise,

Just one last comment... I just picked up another package of the Curad's Scar Therapy at Target. They have changed the design to a "clear" pad vs. a "white" one... Anyway, it now clearly says that it works for Keloid scars as well.

Good luck.

Anne

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
