Too Tight Or "real" Restriction??

Recommended Posts

TMF~

Thanks for your kind words. I will definitely give it a week. I suspect that what I am experiencing is true restriction and that I will be fine. I am so ready to start dropping the pounds!

When my MD did my fill Monday, he did cause me a little pain so maybe I do have a bit of swelling. You see, when he does his fills he completely restricts you and has you GULP Water. he then pulls back the saline until you can swallow comfortably. Like I said- my first swallow was actually painful.

I definitely take very, very, small bites. I have mastered this because prior to getting the band I ate fast with BIG bites. Having the LB, even without a fill cured me of that rather quickly.

As far as the vomiting is concerned, I had no control. It was the mouth fill up with saliva uncontrollable episode that I couldn't stop no matter how hard I tried. Trust me- I will not ever try and put myself in that position again- NO MORE SCRAMBLED EGGS! :P

Thanks so much!!

Failure?? LOL!

Well, I am not a patient woman!!

I guess I expected instant results. It is too easy to compare yourself to others.

well, you gained weight, as some have said, not overnight. the excess wont be gone overnight. if that happens give me a jingle.

dont compare because we dont walk in those shoes.

and just because someone loses more than you doesnt mean they are better. you will get there on your time.

Your doctor seems to be a little unorthodox but I don't see where anything he is suggesting is harmful. In fact, I think what he recommends would have worked for me too. After fills I never felt extra restriction from swelling and I think I could have gone for the burger too :P

LOL!

Don't get me wrong, he doesn't want me to eat the bun, but he definitely wants me to eat "normal texture/consistency.

He actually told me to go to McDonalds, buy a plain burger and eat it without the bun.

I am soo excited to start seeing some real changes on the scale!!!! :P

Most of the time I was banded, I could not eat "real" scrambled eggs. I could eat ribeye steak, but not scrambled eggs. Go figure. But I did find that I could eat scrambled egg substitute (like Egg Beaters).

Edited to add:

Oh, and the mac & cheese? Pasta didn't work for me very well at all. In fact, it still doesn't work too well. It's too Gummy to be an easy food for a lot of bandsters to eat.

I think you may be too tight, but it's hard to evaluate that when your upper GI tract is all irritated from eating problems and PB's. I would stay on liquids for a few days, then gradually transition to purees, then soft food, then solid food.

I understand your doctor's insistence on solid food, because that's what provides the most satiety, but unless he's got a band himself, he has no way of knowing what it's like to try to eat solid food only a day or two after a fill.

I'll take a ribeye over scrambled eggs any day!

I, too, have been told to eat normally after a fill (I have only had two fills--I think I need another one). So far, I haven't had problems that I couldn't handle. I can eat scrambled and hard boiled eggs as well as ribeye! LOL

Good Luck on your journey, I think the commitment you make to this process is directly related to how much weight you will lose.

yes....mac & cheese. I have 6 children so it is one of the staples in my house. That is one of my problems as well. Doctor wants me to eat strictly low carb. Well, to be realistic and practical, that isn't going to happen. You see, my husband is a stay-at-home-Dad and I am the only one working. We have a pretty strict budget. I have to eat what is served (for the most part). Sometimes that just isn't going to be low carb

I cannot eat any pasta/breads. I can have a VERY small amount of crackers rarely (like 2 crackers at the most). Scrambled eggs are also a no-no for me. I never feel restriction from my fills for 1-2 WEEKS, then all of a sudden I can tell I have some restriction in there. Also as your body changes, what was the 'green zone' before can suddenly be either too loose or too tight...just listen to your body, and if it doesnt feel right, it probably isnt

I have no problem with gluten free pasta's and breads NOW and as long as I'm very thorough in my chewing. eggs are ok for ne too as long as they are hot and again I must chew to mushies each bite. Def a little loose-r than I was win I found my green zone.

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
