The negatives of this lap band.....

Recommended Posts

Awsome posts you guys.

Thank you so much.

You really lifted my spirits.

I must agree the positives will outweigh the negatives. And why worry about something that may never happen. I think worrying about 'something going wrong' would just make me feel like I made a mistake spending 13,500 on surgery. But I have to remember a statistic that I just read last month.

If you are 40 and obese, you could be taking up to 7 years off your life.

Now THAT is a scary thought.

Thanks again, you guys are all awsomely awsome.

I STILL am very appreciative of the fact that people share their complications.

Thank you all for that too.

Danger isn't just with the Lap Band, it's any surgery. If you were getting a boob job or back surgery you would hear the same kind of negative stories from patients that had complications. All surgeries are dangerous, but some save lives - like the band, for example.

There are negatives with every thing in life...but for me I focused on the possitvie things my band did for me regardless of my erosion. I do not regret my band for one single second. Even though I NO longer have it I am happier and healthier then I have been in years. I am maintaining my weight loss without my band and I am damn proud of that !

Do not let the negatives scare you..think possitive :)

You should be proud! You should be screaming it from the top of your lungs, lady! Great job!

Paulax, good luck back at you. I had a lot of complications and way too many band-related surgeries, but in the end I'm down 77 pounds. I have problems with my esophagus now, but that's because I can't get my eating in order. I lost my band due to erosion and am stuck with mountains of bills from it. But before the band I didn't want to live, so losing over 75 pounds and getting my life back (even if it's only temporary) was worth it.

The negative is slow weight loss I'm impatient a flipped port and occasional pb but I have lost weight not gained and that is a plus I still want to lose 60 more but at 1/2 1 pound loss a week it will take awhile oh well our time will come

Delara has had such a miserable time. But most people on this board have had good experiences even if there are set backs. You can't expect to have a foreign object placed in your body and not have some consequences. Like I get things stuck - but it is my own fault for not chewing or eating bread. Otherwise, all had been well for me. Honestly, by the time you get to needing band, you've probably failed at a million other attempts and you probably can't do it on your own.

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
