Can you eat these foods?

Recommended Posts

Assuming you're banded, and have some fill, can you eat any of the foods below? These are things I've heard very mixed things about. I know they may still be for me, but just wondering if any of you can eat these things, and also if you notice a difference in your ability to eat wheat vs. white.

- Tortillas (white, wheat, corn?)

- salad (what kind of lettuce can you eat?)

- Hard breads (pretzels, crackers, melba, etc.)

- "Fluffy" breads (pancakes, waffles, muffins)

- Ground meants (turkey, chuck, sirloin...)

- Shellfish/crustaceans (scallops, shrimp, crab, lobster, mussels...)

- Hard Cereal (grape nuts, oat bran, etc.)

- Hard cheeses

- Hard breads (pretzels, crackers, melba, etc.) yes, all of them, but very slowly.

- "Fluffy" breads (pancakes, waffles, muffins) No. I know these will get stuck.

- Ground meats (turkey, chuck, sirloin...)Yes - all mentioned, no problems

- Shellfish/crustaceans (scallops, shrimp, crab, lobster, mussels...) Yes

- Hard Cereal (grape nuts, oat bran, etc.)Another Yes. No problems with ANY cerals...

- Hard cheeses Yes. This is another easy food for me.

- Tortillas (white, wheat, corn?) No idea. Haven't tried and don't plan to.

- salad (what kind of lettuce can you eat?) I eat Dole's salad in a bag, no problem.

- Hard breads (pretzels, crackers, melba, etc.) Have had a few Ritz crackers. No problem.

- "Fluffy" breads (pancakes, waffles, muffins) Wouldn't know. Avoiding like the plauge.

- Ground meats (turkey, chuck, sirloin...) Hamburger in chili no problem. Have also had pot roast, cooked in the crockpot.

- Shellfish/crustaceans (scallops, shrimp, crab, lobster, mussels...) I've had one or two shrim from Dawg's Healthy Choice meals. No problem.

- Hard cereal (grape nuts, oat bran, etc.) I eat Fiber One every day.

- Hard cheeses - Haven't tried any.

- Hard breads (pretzels, crackers, melba, etc.) no trouble with these as long as I chew really well.

- "Fluffy" breads (pancakes, waffles, muffins) NO WAY!!!!!!:omg:

- Ground meants (turkey, chuck, sirloin...) Again very carefully

- Shellfish/crustaceans (scallops, shrimp, crab, lobster, mussels...)?? don't like so don't eat. (YUCKY SEA FOOD)

I was scared to try salad and tortillas, but recently I had a turkey breast wrap at Subway and had no problems...I was VERY careful about chewing really well. I like the wraps for lunch because I eat half one day and half the next...lunch for $2 is hard to beat and it's just the right amount!

Don't eat seafood or meat other than turkey, so I'm no help with those. Haven't tried hard or fluffy breads and don't plan to if I can avoid it. Hard cheeses have been just fine for me.

I looooove salad. Pre-banding, I ate it at least twice a day. I was pretty certain I'd have to give it up because - well, lettuce isn't something I'd think we'd really be able to chew much, except for maybe the really crunchy core of iceberg. It seems like when we chew it, we just mash it flatter. Do you guys just chew it really well, or do you cut it up real small first?

I'm at 1cc in a 4cc band. I have some restriction, but I wouldn't say I'm at my "sweet spot".

- Tortillas (white, wheat, corn?) YUP, I can eat all kinds

- salad (what kind of lettuce can you eat?) When I eat salad, I eat it. Not picky about the greens although I do try to stay away from the thicker center pieces. I just don't like them.

- Hard breads (pretzels, crackers, melba, etc.) All go down A-O.K.

- "Fluffy" breads (pancakes, waffles, muffins) I make sure I eat them slowly, but I can eat them.

- Ground meants (turkey, chuck, sirloin...) No problem with any meats I've tried.

- Shellfish/crustaceans (scallops, shrimp, crab, lobster, mussels...) I've only tried shrimp. No problem.

- Hard cereal (grape nuts, oat bran, etc.) I don't eat a lot of cereal. When I have, I usually let it get soggy. I like it that way. No problem eating it.

- Hard cheeses Hmm, what qualifies? Parmesean? In that case, yes. Otherwise I kind of stick to softer cheese like cheddar, mozzarella, swiss.

I eat salad with a can of tuna and some fat free dressing, and I don't even have to be extra careful - well, no more so than with any food now. I also eat the salad "dry" right out of the bag as a munchie type snack. It's almost like eating chips. (potato chips, not English chips)

- Tortillas (white, wheat, corn?) Got stuck

- salad (what kind of lettuce can you eat?) Yep. any kind

- Hard breads (pretzels, crackers, melba, etc.) Got stuck with Triscuits

- "Fluffy" breads (pancakes, waffles, muffins) Major stuck

- Ground meants (turkey, chuck, sirloin...) yes -ok so far but no fill yet

- Shellfish/crustaceans (scallops, shrimp, crab, lobster, mussels...) yep

- Hard Cereal (grape nuts, oat bran, etc.) haven't tried

- Hard cheeses haven't tried

Of course all of this may change after my first fill next month. But even now, bread is out of the question. WAAAHHH  (I'm doing laundry today)

I have .7cc in a 4cc band...the only thing I've had trouble with, and it's not on this list, is chicken (if grilled and kinda dry)

- Tortillas (white, wheat, corn?) I can eat all 3

- salad (what kind of lettuce can you eat?) I can eat all kinds of salad

- Hard breads (pretzels, crackers, melba, etc.) never had a problem

- "Fluffy" breads (pancakes, waffles, muffins) Yes, carefully..but 3/4 of one pancake is about all; 1/2 a muffin

- Ground meants (turkey, chuck, sirloin...) Not a problem

- Shellfish/crustaceans (scallops, shrimp, crab, lobster, mussels...) Not a problem

- Hard cereal (grape nuts, oat bran, etc.) I just don't eat this very often, but I could

- Hard cheeses yes

I guess this is one of the individual aspects of being banded...the same fill isn't the same on each person...the foods that cause problems are different. When I try something new, I just take really small bites, and take it slow. For me, it's more method than content...

Good luck, Cindy

- Tortillas (white, wheat, corn?) I can eat hard tortillas and chips, but only a couple of bites of soft flour tortillas

- salad (what kind of lettuce can you eat?) No problem with lettuce. Raw vegetables are OK in small amounts.

- Hard breads (pretzels, crackers, melba, etc.) Small amounts of these are OK.

- "Fluffy" breads (pancakes, waffles, muffins) Not worth it. Two bites and I'm full, so why bother?

- Ground meants (turkey, chuck, sirloin...) Generally OK, if the meat is good quality.

- Shellfish/crustaceans (scallops, shrimp, crab, lobster, mussels...) Generally OK, again, if good quality and I chew carefully.

- Hard cereal (grape nuts, oat bran, etc.) Small amounts are fine, but that'll be IT for the meal.

- Hard cheeses No problem whatsoever.

- Tortillas (white, wheat, corn?) I have no problem with crisp tortillas, soft defintely got stuck with good restriction

- salad (what kind of lettuce can you eat?) I have and have not had problems with lettuce - depending on restriction.

- Hard breads (pretzels, crackers, melba, etc.) No problem if I go slow

- "Fluffy" breads (pancakes, waffles, muffins) Not worth it. Two bites and I'm full, so why bother? Besides, these got me where I am today..

- Ground meants (turkey, chuck, sirloin...) No problem. Steak is out, however.

- Shellfish/crustaceans (scallops, shrimp, crab, lobster, mussels...) Never had a problem with shrimp, however, scallops and lobster I PB'd on first time. I won't be trying again. Haddock also - it's that rubbery texture.

- Hard cereal (grape nuts, oat bran, etc.) I've eaten cereal, however, it tends to 'settle' like potatoes, so you have to be aware and go slow.

- Hard cheeses I've had more problem with melted cheeses than hard.

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
