Do Post Banders Handle Heat Better?

Recommended Posts

I've noticed a huge difference. I used to come home and strip down and sit in front of the fan during the summer.

Now I Barely notice the heat.

I love the heat now. No sweat rash' date=' no thigh chafing, confident wearing shoe string straps and short shorts and a bikini and cute dresses, no rolls of fat to accumulate heat. I definitely handle the heat with ease now (dont ask me about my hair and humidity though).

However, the downside of that is the cold. I live in Melbourne, very temperate, average winter day at this time of year is about 13, 14 degrees celcius - it never gets to snowing temperatures and I am freaking freezing all the time. Bone cold, painfully cold. I'm a teacher and schools arent warm places, I turn the heater on to blasting when I get to work, and the kids are all moaning and complaining and I have to turn it off - I have an "inside coat" which I never take off - a light, fleece lined trench and an outside coat - a big fat thick parka which I add on top of my inside coat for yard duty or even to go to the staffroom! I would absolutely die in some of the temperatures you get over there.

Everyday I get home from school at the moment, I'm that frozen that I have to have a hot bath to warm up.[/quote']

Hi jachut, I'm in Melbourne too and even though I've only lost 20 kilos and have a long way to go I've been absolutely freezing too since being banded. In winter I used to be fine in just a t-shirt but now if I'm now wearing about four layers of clothing it's like I'm in a freezer all day long. When I go to bed even though I have a doona and an extra blanket I still have to wear layers in bed just to stay warm enough to be able to sleep and honestly our winters aren't really that cold. It's just so odd to feel so cold all the time now.

Oh god, yesterday! I teach in Upper Beaconsfield and its freaking FREEZING up there! My car said 2 degrees in the morning! We had an all day Indonesian incursion and I had to suffer it out on the oval (bikes) in the stadium and in this thing we call the "igloo" - a tin shed basically.

I was ready to quit my job! I freeze me a$& off up there.

I'm always hot and was when I was a normal weight, too. I can't stand it!

Hot Flash Momma here says, "Thank God,YES!" The extra padding is what made me so hot, I usually have a throw over my legs at home, and never go out without a jacket in the car. :D

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
