I think each person is different. I have a friend that's lost over 100 pounds with her band and she doesn't have much loose skin - I'm actually quite shocked at how little there is, most all of the loose is under her arms but not enough she'd need to do anything about it. My two friends who had gastric both needed surgery. I have that weird flappy mother's apron thing and I am afraid I'll need it there but will worry about that some other time. There's always spandex or Spanx ;)

i needed too but then i did lose a significant amaount of weight, i was also 58 yrs old, my skin was never going to recover, nothing is written in stone, some young people will get loose skin most not, some older ones will get loose skin some not, age, genetics and amount of weight lost has significant impact on loose skin, but not always :)

I had a Tummy Tuck to Fix scarring and hernias from cncer surgery and the tightening and removal of a couple of inches of skin were welcome but i didnt need it for loose skin and nobody has noticed i had anything done.

I lost 120 lb, but Im five foot ten and evenly proportioned

As already said, you may or may not have excess skin. It depends on many factors such as age, genetics, pregnancy, weight flucuations through your life et... I strongly advice keeping the weight off for a year before getting surgery. I just couldn't wait and am sorry. I gained back about 40 pounds since my tt. I got too thin, so I am hopeing if I loose 25 ish I won't have sagging skin again. I also got a face lift, which I am not sure I would have needed if I was just a bit heavier. good luck!

I have the same problem with my face, everyone around me says u look ok, but i look in the mirror and see lines, my fatter face i feel definitley looked younger, i am thinking of a mini face lift next year as i find it really hard to look at myself in the mirror. If i put weight back on i bet it wouldnt go on my face where i want it :(

As stated above, everyone is different. I've lost a large amount of weight in a relatively short amount of time, and till have much more to go, so I will definitely need skin removed. It's already bad and I'm not quite halfway done losing yet.

I have heard people say when you lose weight slower the skin issue isn't nearly as bad, though.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
