Problems with Bread?

Recommended Posts

I have had one fill, and it dramatically changed how I was eating even after surgery. The biggest difference is that I can no longer eat any kind of bread. This is somewhat good, because I naturally love carbs, but I feel like it restricts a lot of what I can eat.

Has anyone else had problems with bread?

Even the slightest bite feels like it's stuck and makes me feel sick.

Any suggestions?

I tried bread twice and each time it darn near killed me! I won't try it in any way shape or form anymore. I used to love any kind of fast food hamburger but since I have such trouble with bread, the idea of eating a hamburger turns me off (even without the bun.)

I've had 5 fills, each one restricting a little more. If I eat too fast or the wrong thing I get terrible chest pain and sometimes pb (I'm getting much better at not getting to that point though.) For me, the pain and pb-ing is a huge deterrent. I'm actually glad I have it there to remind me to slow down and not eat the wrong things. I mostly stick with meat, veges, Beans and salad. I might have a small piece of chocolate, a little ice cream or a few chips once in a great while so I won't feel deprived. But, for the most part, I don't really care if I have that stuff anymore. I seldon eat fast food, if I do, it's 2-3 small hard shell tacos or chili from Wendy's. I'm consistently losing, although a bit slower now, but still shedding 1 to 2 pounds a week.

You couldnt pay me to try bread! LOL Not after all the warnings and horror PB stories I've read here.

I know that a fill can drastically change what, how fast, and how much you can eat. After your couple of days on liquids when you've had a fill, start re-introducing foods back into your diet slowly and cautiously. As a matter of fact, get used to approaching every meal with caution. I've heard many people say that one day they could eat a certain food, but the next day it was a big no-can-do.

 I had my band done on May 9th of 05. I've had 4 fills and I'm just now getting restriction. Up till now I've basically been eating bread and other carbs. Which is not good. I've got a large band so I guess it takes longer to fill to the right spot. I've got 2 to 3 more fills to do. Before surgery I was 340 and I'm down to 285. I was also thinking I was supposed to be at my normal weight by now and my doc said no I'm only supposed to lose 2 pounds a week. Thal made me feel better.

I just found out about this site and I think it's GREAT!

HAVE A WONDERFUL DAY,

INA

Hiya Jillbean.. Welcome to LBT. 55 pounds is a big loss! Grats on that!

One to two pounds a week is a steady and healthy weight loss rate. You're doing well and might see an increase in your weekly loss now that you are feeling more restriction.

Best of luck on your next banded year.

I've got 1.3 ml in a 4ml band and I can still eat bread - but I do have to go carefully - ditto cake, muffins etc. Anything doughy like that I can see that after a fill or two I will no longer be able to eat.

Since my fill in January, I can't eat bread either. I managed 2 bites of toast yesterday at my Mom's but even then - wow - ick - ow.

At dinner time, if I get a hankerin' for bread to go with my dinner, I'll toss 5-10 fat free croutons on my plate. 30-60 calories. I dip them in whatever sauce I'm using, and they fill that bread craving for me just fine.

O.K. I'm gonna get ready for all the virtual slaps here.:)

I have 1cc in a 4cc band. I've been up to 2.5cc and have had it removed because I was having pain that the doctor thought was esophageal spasms-turned out to be gall stones.

Anyway, I have always been able to eat bread, muffins, cake, tortillas, biscuits, you name it. I'm not upset about it. In fact, I'm glad. What I've done though is instead of having a sandwich with 2 slices of bread, or a whole bun. I eat just one slice of bread or take off half the bun. It's just too filling. The band has taught me "everything in moderation". If I want to make sure I get my Protein in, I've got to limit the carbs.

tell you what is really nice without bread indulgence is

wrap a burger in a couple of crisp lettuce leaves and eat like a burger in a bun, honestly its really nice if you can eat finely chopped tomatoes on it as well, all the better

I dont miss bread at all not one jot so Im very lucky that way

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
