It hasn't done anything to my BP (thank goodness, even when I was over 300 lbs my blood pressure was 120/80) I forgot to bring it with me on vacation last week, so I started taking it again on Sunday, so maybe that will kick start it working again.

I lost wieght with it. Don't drink anything with Caffine while talking it. I have had a hard time getting my dr. here to perscribe it (before surgery). So count your blessings that you are using it. You may be sick at first, but then your body gets to use it. However yes, once you stop taking it the wieght comes back. I am suprised they are using this if they are trying to convince your insurance you need the surgery. You will loose wieght with it.

I think because it's medically supervised by her MD, it's ok. It counts as an approved method for weight loss if it's supervised; it's a tool... just like our band!

Did it for the first time last April and lost about 35lbs. I recently started it 16 days ago and have lost 11lbs since. I like the energy it gives me.

Thanks everyone for your responses!! I started taking it last Friday and as of today I'm down 14 lbs!! It really does suppress your appetite but I also started eating differently adding more Protein, eating less carbs, fat and sugar! And started a Water aerobics boot camp 3 days a week!! I hope these 6 months fly bye!! So far my journey is going well!!

I have used phentermine several times and haven't had long term success with it. Your body does get immune to it and your dr will probably up your milligrams as time goes by. the last time I used it, I lost 23lbs in one month. It is legally prescibed speed. My grandmother was addicted to it in the 80s!

I have pictures of the success I had with phentermine. I loved it when it was working because it helped me stay motivated since my body was finally working with me. I lost a total of 75 pounds with it and even maintained for about 6 months after coming off. I tried several times after to go back on but it just wouldn't control my appetite. I did not have any jitteryness, but my normal heart rate is only 58-64 since they did radioactive iodine on my thyroid in 2004 - so it brought my HR up to 80's. I believe that people who experience heart palpatations and jitteryness are those who have a higher heart rate. I loved the energy though.

Like someone else said, it is a tool so use it well. I decided to get the band because I knew that if I had a tool - I would stay on track. Good luck to you and please keep us posted!

Phentermine, taken alone is safer alternative to using it in conjunction with fenfluramine, which was associated with some significant cardiac risks in the 80's.

I had used it several times over the 10 years prior to my band surgery. Your body does build a rapid tolerance to it, so it was effective for only about 3 months, and then I would have to go off of it for another 6 months. A three month prescription was all that my physician would prescribe. I lost about 30 pounds during the 3 months, and did manage to keep most of the weight off after every 3 months off of it.

"Rebound weight gain" is common, when the patient needs to go off of the medication. This can happen if the individual does nothing to maintain a long term adjustment in life style with changes to smaller portions and exercise.

I have not taken it for several years now. I recall that I did like the increased energy associated with it, and though I took in in the morning, I did not like the insomnia which I also experienced while taking it.

So update I have been on Phentermine now for almost 3months I have 3 more months left of dr supervision and so far I have lost a total of 59 lbs 47 of them after I started taking this medication! I have completely changed my diet to mimic the one I will be on after the Lapland, it was tough at first but now it feels normal, and I know that with the help of the food suppressant it has made this transition easier! I also started working out more I'm up to 4days a week! I workout on the treadmill and do Water aerobics! Soon I will try to bump it up to 5 days and and some more strenuous workouts!! I can't wait for my surgery, seeing these results already has made me so focus and determined!! It's like my body remembers where it used to be prior to my 3 kids and excessive over eating!! I know I will never look like I did pre preg wt 9 yrs ago but I am so happy that my wt is going down I am already feeling so much better!!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
