Unable To Keep Down "real Foods"

Recommended Posts

I went today and got 1cc removed. My Dr. told me to go home and try to eat something that I have been having difficulty with..but something that I wanted...so...I came home andhavd a leftover piece of pizza from last night. Yesterday I took 1 bite and instantly had to get it up. Today I was able to finish 1 small peice. Im happy that I can eat normally again!

I have been having the same issues latey I know it is not good and I need to have some taken out today was my draw point ! I can't keep coffee or protien drinks down I haven't been able to eat sold Proteins for almost 3 months (I just started a new job and the training is 4 mos and you can't no miss a day) so I just called and got a sat app to take some out I can't wait to eat more then coffee and Tomato soup!!! Also I have had poor weight loss in 3 mo has been roughly 9 lbs and the last month I haven't lost anything! This is all my own fault I knew I've been too tight this whole time yet though I'd loose more then normal I was hard headed and wrong!! So I say before you blame your band think if it may be "user error" this is a tool and if your not following the guild lines it will not work for you!

For many of us it takes a couple of weeks for a fill to take full effect. Odd but true. For me' date=' this last one took a few months. I am having a slight unfill soon. After my fill in September, I got very tight in February. It's loosened up a bit since then, but still too tight. Go Figure.[/quote']

Yes-same thing - after many months of having no problems my band became too tight & I started experiencing back pain. Had a slight unfill and it made a huge difference.

Back in May I had all of the liquid taken out of my band and it didn't fix my eating problem as almost every solid food came back up within 10 min. The doctor preformed an EDG (scope down my thoat) to see if they could see a problem. Unfortunately, the area by the band was extremely tight. In the picture he took, it looks like a tiny hole. He dialated my esophagus while I was under and I was sooo hoping that the next day that might have worked. It did not. They believe at this point my band slipped down onto the bigger section of my stomach. I'm having it removed on Monday. I have such mixed emotions about removing the band. I really hoped that this would have worked for me. :(

I have been banded since 8/26/11' date=' i have 2.3 cc of Fluid in my band and i have lost 60 lbs so i am very happy with my lap bad, but ever since i started getting filled i have trouble keeping "real foods" down. I drink Protein shakes, Soup, yogurt, sugar free puddings, etc. When i try to eat any kinds of meat such as fish, chicken or veggies i usually end up throwing up. I am starting to feel like i am bulimic. My husband says i try to eat too fast but even when i try to eat slow i still have problems, my doctor does not seem to concerned about it. Does anyone else have this problem?[/quote']

I am very tight i was going thru this i can eat only very small bites and eat real SLOW!

I was experiencing the same issues. I read to drink some warm liquids to loosen up the band in the morning and before meals or before I swollow meds. It really works!!! I just drink several sips of hot tea or hot Water in a pinch.

This works for me too! I thought it was just me :-)

You are NOT bulimic because you are not throwing up to control your intake. Has your doctor done any testing on your bad, like an Upper GI to check your restriction level?

Thank you for addressing this. My husband thinks I'm bulimic. I often throw up (PB) - probably about 3-6 times a week. Mostly from eating too fast. After almost 3 yrs, I still have yet to control how fast I eat.

But, even tho I know I'm not bulimic (I purge because I'm so uncomfortable and it's the only way to relieve it - not to control my intake), I did slip my band about 3 mths ago. After having Fluid taken out, letting it rest, and Fluid added slowly, I still have severe reflux - so either it re-slipped or it was never fixed in the first place (they didn't do a followup xray before they started refilling). Since my slip, I've been so aware of how fast I eat. One thing that it doesn't matter how slowly I eat, it always comes back up is pudding and yogurt. No clue why those "sliders" always come back up. Since my 1st slip, I've cut way back on vomiting. I either eat it correctly, or suffer with the pain till it goes down - and it will eventually.

I was caught a couple nites ago when I ate about 1/2 cup of banana pudding. I felt it stuck and it wouldn't go away. So in order to not allow my husband to hear me, I took the dog outside to potty. I threw it up in the yard. He heard me thru his office window! I thought I was being so sneaky.

Can't wait till my band is fully functional again and not causing severe reflux and heartburn. Hopefully soon!

Marci

I call my husband the food Police. He's gotten better, but has stared up again recently. I got too tight after my last fill. Due to an unrelated illness and an insurance goof, it took several months to get into my surgeon. Now I've been half cc less for over a month. My weight is stable, I am fine. No stuck episodes. I can eat anything, but am easily controlling the volume. For some reason he keeps picking fights over it. Keeps telling me I don't need another fill (I agree), keeps telling me I am eating more than before the unfill (again I agree, that was the point, I could barely eat!), and that if I gain it is OK (again I agree, but only to a point, if I gain too much and NEED a fill to control it, my surgeon and I will make that decision together.

When I agree, he wants to argue his point. I say I agree, and he tells me that I say so, but I really don't. Ok. I sae my surgeon a month after the unfill. My weight had gone from 146.2ish to 146.8. That is NOT a gain in my book. My doc rounds weights, so my chart says 146 then 147. That is a different time of day, month, or outfit. Or even as my doc pointed out, the earrings I had on could be the difference!

I don't obsess over the scale at home. I get on it once every couple of weeks.

Gotta love it when they just don't understand!

I had a fill on Monday, I am at 7.5. I am experiencing not able to swallow solid food, don't matter if its a finger nail size and I chew forever. I instantly feel like I need to burp but can't. I am going to hang in there, since I waited so long for my lapband to work. Having some taking out my last option.

I have had Fluid taken out twice when too full. Recently I had to have it all removed. My lapband dr. prefers for it to be empty for an endoscopy. My GI dr was happy about that lol. I was not. Prior to that I was having major issues, 5.5 ccs of fluid was removed. After a couple of days I was able to eat anything, so now I know my band was too tight. I've had 2 cc's put back in and I can still eat anything. Which of course means weight gain, as I've used this as an excuse to eat what I've been "missing". I go back the end of Aug for another fill. I will be more aware of how much is being put back in and know 5.5 is too much. Prior to being empited, I lost 15 lbs in less than 3 weeks. So of course that came back plus 5 more. In a way this was good because it made me realize how much of a tool the band was, and I admit I abused that 5.5 cc's to lose weight in a unhealthy way. Now I have to lose that 20lbs all over again. But will do it the healthy way and utilize my band as the tool it's meant to be vs abuse it and risk health issues. My reason for having to have the Endoscopy in the first place was my ENT was very concerned about the rawness of my esophogus, this of course was due to all the vomiting I was doing when I was too full and couldn't keep anything down. He said what do you think comes up with that food, ACID... you are going to ruin your esophogus and have ulcers. So please think twice about keeping your band too tight for the weight loss. This is not directed at any one person, as I read several posts regarding this. I'm just sharing my experience. And as a nurse, I feel I should. Good Luck everyone, stay healthy and happy weight loss.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
