Was banded in June of last year adn immediately had regular cycles, something I have NEVER had. Found out I was pregnant end of August. I see a high risk specialist due to a history of blood clots who said they see many women who have had the band become pregnant quickly after surgery. I'm due any day now. She's my lap band baby, lol.

Congrats to the bandbaby moms! I am insanely jealous. lol. That was one of my reasons for getting banded... however my fertility did not change. Nor did my PCOS.

Being banded will either not effect your fertility or you will be more fertile after losing weight and getting healthy. If you stop the pill, use an alternate method! (banded 1/08, 2nd child born 1/11)

-Cordelia, banded 1/08

I don't see who this can be true. If you're not having a period or having an anovulatory cycle, being banded (aka loosing weight) could help regulate your cycle and thus it has effected your fertility.

I was banded in July of '10 and was pregnant by March '11 and we were not trying at all. I had lost 60 pounds tho! I was so nervous through the pregnancy about gaining excess weight but I went from 157-184 and had a small unfill .. Now 6 months later I have a beautiful baby boy and I'm down to 143!! I love my band! I will say it is harder for them to find my port now due toy abdominal wall muscles moving with the pregnancy!! Just hurts a bit more to get a fill!

The poster said it will either do A or do B. You misread what she wrote.

You're right, I did. Thanks, I was totally confused that she said that. Now I look like a dunce! :D

I don't want to get pregnant and having been on depo provera shots and then implanon for the past 8 years, I haven't had a period.

But I've noticed 2 weeks post surgery some spotting. I'm guessing that being overweight I was infertile but now I'm losing weight, my body is returning to normal. Apparently it is normal to get periods with the implant contraceptive, I've just not had it personally.

Anyone else experienced something similar?

I planned on waiting 1 year and it appears that taking BC for that year was a good decision on my part. Literally after I stopped taking it I got pregnant. I wasnt thrilled about taking it but my period got crazy so I used it to regulate. If you plan on waiting a year, use something.Condoms are the easiest!

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
