Food poisoning & need to vomit food in lower stomach?

Recommended Posts

Has anyone had food poisoning since their lapband? If the food has moved past the band, and you are well restricted, how do you vomit?

Once since being banded in September, I have vomitted from my lower stomach. It was an unpleasant experience, but it can/does happen.

It is possible but dangerous! The pressure is incredible and it made me feel like my head and eyeballs would explode!

I beleive it is recommended to have the fill removed in this case.

I was sick from the anesthesia after my banding... I heaved for hours and my surgeon ddidn't seem to think it would be a problem in regards to my band staying place... and it did... stay in place that is. Not an experience I would ever care to relive!

Hi Scott!

I was in another country about two months ago, and got a severe case of food poisoning. (Probably won't be able to imagine ever eating Thai food again).

I was up all night, vomiting. It felt terrible. I was just careful to try to sloooowly let it out, and to consciously try to minimize the resultant convulsing which resulted from the dry heaves, once my lower and upper stomach was empty.

It was not a pleasant experience, and it left me feeling ill for about ten hours. However, I have to say it was no better or worse than pre-banding.

I did worry a terrible lot, but no damage. Certainly best avoided.

Cheers, Brad

I had the flu and was throwing up for a couple hours before I could get to the ER and get some anti-nasua meds. It felt like I was going to throw up my band it hurt so badly. I now keep some anti- naseau suppositories ( I know...gross!) with me almost all the time just in case. I was worried about slippage but my surgeon said that the band is really made to withstand vomiting and I was ok. I had a fill scheduled a week or so after and everything was just fine!

It hurts like h - e double toothpicks though.

Megan

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
