I was reading a bariatric manual that was posted on here (with GREAT information), and I came across one of the things you have to stop before surgery. It stated no Estrogen for 2 weeks prior and use other birth control methods. Has anyone actually experienced this (your surgeon told you to stop taking birth control pills) prior to the LapBand surgery? If so, what about after the surgery, how long before you can start back taking birth control pills? Thanks so much for any information!

I was not told to stop my birth control, the only stipulation I received would be that any pills I took for the first month after would need to be the size of a pencil eraser or smaller. If you take your BC in the am, you should ask about if you should take it the day of. I was told the only medication that morning could be my thyroid med.

Also, nothing other than Tylenol for one week before surgery and afterwards no NSAIDS due to the possibility of stomach erosion If they sat above the pouch for too long.

Ok...thanks! I take 3 pills each morning that are smaller than a pencil eraser (bc pill, allergy pill, and Water pill), so I guess I will have to wait and see what he says. Thanks

yeah, I've transitioned all meds other than the thyroid to nighttime because I cannot take anything before the thyroid or after for two hours and I have to take the thyroid an hour before Breakfast. Finnicky little thing!

on a good note, I was able to swallow all of my pills just fine last night though.

Good for you with swallowing them. I may have to change mine to night time as well, but we will see what the doctor says. @Loneil I hope I do not have to stop because they help regulate my cycle as well as helps with HEAVY bleeding....UGGHHHH!

I'm so EXCITED, I just made my 1st consultation appointment after waiting 2 LONG weeks since the information session!! This website has really kept me going!! Thanks again ladies for the information!

I have done my research and have found that most bc pills do not digest into our systems AFTER surgery................so my surgeon has taken me off the pill and we are trying to find a good solution. The only one is the shot or the ring.......................neither of which Im excited about. Anyone else see this sort of info on bc pills???

I had the copper IUD after my first son. It lasts for 10 years and has no hormones. It is great for someone that cannot have hormones or pills or cannot remember pills well. It did increase my pain in cycles slightly. But it may be an option.

OMG, I hope that is not the case for me. My tubes are tied, so I am not concerned about getting pregnant. I need the pill to help control my bleeding.

Thanks again everyone!

Imperfect1974, I've been on the nuva ring for over 3 years. I was horrible with taking my BC when I was supposed to so this has been a big help. People think you need to shove your whole hand up your business to put it in, it's not any worse than inserting an OB tampon. Once it's in you don't feel it, and I've only had it come out once during intercourse. I need a little bit of hormones because I have PCOS.

I love my birth control because it keeps everything regular, and am definitely not ready for kids at this point. Need to make sure I'm on something that is going to work!!!

My gynecologist is in surgery today, but I should receive a call back from her telling me if she has heard it is not affective after WLS. If it isn't, I will need something else.

I live the mirena iud- good for 5 years, no issues. I can't have estrogen because I had some blood clot issues. It is stress and worry free!! And I hardly have my Tom- its rare, and light when i do have it. I don't even have to use tampons or pads- a pantiliner works great!

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
