Recommended Posts

I think I am experiences early signs of esophageal dilatation or some type of esophageal complications. After having your lap band removed, does swallowing and other complications return to normal?

some do and some don't, at least for me. I had mine removed four years ago after having it for 2.5 years, my reflux is still bad and i'm on nexium and looks like i will be forever, though i never had any digestive issues b4 my labpanding. i dont feel much hunger, probably the nerves have been damaged. i get unexplained pain around my esophagus, specially at night, swallowing is normal but i remember it took a little while, weeks rather than months. hih

Thank you SOOOO much for replying! My Barium exam showed tht my band was too tight, even after all Fluid was removed. I finally got meds for the esophageal spasms/dysphagia. Doctor will need to re-operate, so I asked him to just remove the band. I'm having this done 3/30, during our Spring Break (so I dont hv to tk time off). I'm more motivated than ever to loose weight naturally. This has been scary! Thanks again.

Well, I couldn't waot until SPreak Break. I had an emergency band removal Saturday. I'm so thankful to have the band out. My doctor was AWESOME (Dr. Michael Williams, Alpharetta GA), but the band was not for my body.

You say you still have bad reflux so I think your esophageal pains at night are not unexplained. I take Protonix and it seems to work really well.

Thanks Xavier! So did you ever gain weight post-lapband? The most weight I lost during this 8 month journey, was during the last 7 days when I could not eat solids. Any advice?

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
