Hey guys I am here for my update, I got to the hosp around 7am, we checked in and sat in the waiting for about a half an hour. Then the nurse came to get me and had me change into my gown and take a pee test(for possible pregnancy, they say they require this of all patients of child bearing age). They asked me a ton of questions then hooked up the IV, and brought my husband back to wait with me. The doctor came out to see how I was doing and gave me a pill to help me relax and then we had to wait about another 1/2 hr. This was prob the worst part of the day cuz I was anxious and freezing from the IV!! Around 8:30 I said by to my hubby and they rolled me into the OR, they put something in my IV and the next thing I new I was waking up in recovery and it was 10:30, I was in and out for the next hour, but at 11:30 they got me up to check my incisions and bring me to the bathroom (cuz I rreaallly had to pee), at 12 they wheeled me to my hosp room (where I am now) I met my nurse and she helped me change into my pjs (so happy about that) and had me walk around the hallways while she asked me a ton of questions and then gave me ice chips!! My mouth is sooo dry so this is soooo amazing! The pain in very mimimal, maybe a one or two, but I do have a morphine drip I can press the button whenever I start feeling pain, so that is prob why I'm doing so well! No gas pains and all in all am soooo happy its over and I get to startt this amazing new journey! Sorry so long winded, if you have any questions feel free to ask, I'm my mysel

Ok so my story. I was banded on the first. Arrived at 6:00 am. Lots of paperwork and a pee test. After about an hour they took me and my fiancé to a room where I got into a gown and had another EKG. Had to wait about another hour then was taken to pre-op where they did my iv. After another half an hour the doc came and asked if I was still positive about the surgery then the anesthesiologist gave me a "cocktail" to relax which gave me the shakes something fierce! They took me to the OR and I got on the table and they put the oxygen mask on me. In my drugged state I thought it was the anesthesia and started freaking out that I wasn't going to sleep and talked myself into thinking I was gonnabe able to feel everything. My anesthesiologist said he couldn't put me under until my bp came down I realized I was being a dope and immediately heard him say, "there we go". Next thing I was waking up and sooooo thirsty! They gave mea couple of sips of Water, helped me dress, wheeled me to my car and I came home. I slept a lot the first couple of days but after I was good except for the aweful bloating and gas which is much better now after milk of magnesium and gas-x. Walking feels good and really helps with the bloating but I still take the gas-x

My doctor makes us stay overnight for observation , so I will be here untill tomorrow , but I am lucky because my roommate also got banded today so we are swapping stories :) still not much pain, more like a soreness now, like I did 100 crunches yesterday! No gas pain either yet (crossing fingers) I hope its not to bad when it settles in cuz I heard that's the worst!

To aemh...Wishing you the best of luck with the process..I am so upset right now..I just received the denial from my insurance company stating that even though my BMI is 39.5, I don't have any other co-morbidities to approve the surgery..I am going to appeal this because I have a strong family history of diabetes and heart disease, even though I don't have it yet, I am on the road to getting it! wouldn't they rather me avoid it now?? anyone have any suggestions on appealing this? thanks..Karen

You can try to appeal. unfortunately, if their policy clearly states that you must be above 40bmi without comorbidities and 35-40bmi with comorbidities, you probably won't get approved. I would consider gaining a few pounds to put you above 40 and then have the Dr submit a brand new pre-certification.

Congrats to all new bandsters. How exciting. Great sleeping in my own bed last night, much better than hospital. Feeling brighter which is food. Still sore but easily manageable. No gas pain as yet. Goodluck for all going in today. Xx

I most definitely will as soon as I feel up to it. Just making sure I have everything prepared for tomorrow when I get home right now and trying hard not to think about it heehee. I don't want to get worked up and chicken out last minute. I'd be lying if I said the thought hasn't crossed my mind. Just seems so surreal now that the day is finally going to be here.

yep.. this is it. thanks for finding the link. it happened at the beginning of last year apparently' date=' but it doesnt matter when it happened, the point is it did happen. So there was a video taken of the surgery?? nothing was picked up then?? its just awful. so young, too. im feeling up in the air at the moment. This dr is an excellant dr. i dont know why this happened.[/quote']

Judy, many things could have happened. Had the infection been treated, this woman most likely would have been fine. Infection is a risk for any surgery, and its not usually fatal if its managed appropriately. We don't know her history... In order for an infection to cause multi organ failure she must have been septic, meaning the infection got in to her blood. I would not be shocked to find out that this woman had a condition that caused a depressed immune system. Perhaps she had a latent infection prior to surgey... It seems that had the discharge MD used common sense, she would be alive today...the nurses also should have taken a stand on discharging a patient with unstable vital signs. Infection will generally manifest itself with symptoms suck as fever and elevated heart rate. Post op just be sure to report any symptoms, and if they are persist just make sure you are heard. Make sure you are literate in the terminology used and understand all the risks of this surgery. Be an advocate for yourself. Having been a nurse for 15 years I've seen Even the most excellent surgeons have unexpected complications. I don't feel that the lap band killed this woman, a treatable condition did it seems...

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
