Suggestion For Adult Board

Recommended Posts

Can I please make a suggestion.....

Could a board be set up titled "Adult Topics"

Not everyone can get into this board, you must request access from Alex. The board can be kept invisible from new folks and the folks that do not wish to have access, but the ones who have access can see it.

Or, it can be visible but you would need a password to get in...something along those lines.

All adult threads and conversations can be moved to that board...yes, kinda like an anything goes board.

I have been getting some pm's and emails from new/old posters saying that they are posting alot less b/c of these types of threads.

This is a wonderful place and I'd hate to see it go down hill or scare people away from posting just b/c of a few threads.

Personally, they do not bother me but it is scaring some folks away.

Wadda think????

I think that would be a good idea. It's still here for those who want it and hidden for those who dont. Out of sight out of mind.

It seems like if you see something you don't like, you should get out of that thread. There are several threads that I do not agree with or like, so I just stay out.

I think most of us try to start non band related threads in the LBT Lounge section. Pretty easy to stay out of there if you don't want to see things.

I once got an PM from a member of this board who told me that the one thing she didn't like about me is I made sexual innuendo's in some of my post. Geez... What a relief it was when I stopped and saw how cleaned up this got here.

NJ Chick I agree with you

Heather I agree with you some what. Its easy for ME to stay out of threads I don't agree with but we do have some younger folk here that might just wonder into them.

But the reality is, alot of folks are shying away from LBT because of those few topics or the fighting thats been going on lately. I'm not saying to stop the adult topics either, heck no, to each his own.

This board is awesome and can really become enormous b/c of the wonderful people and support thats here. I'd hate to see it go the other way.

My post is only a suggestion to Alex.

I didn't realize we had anyone on here that was under 18? I could be a butt and say that if they are under 18, it is their parents responsibility to monitor what they do online :) But I won't say that! ;)

(my mom NEVER let me online unless she was right there with me, I never got to see the dirty stuff when I was little) (which is a good thing)

Perspnally, I'm not in favor or password-protected sections or things like that, just because they're so labor-intensive. I'd vastly prefer people use good taste and good judgement in general, and when starting threads of that nature label them clearly so anyone who wants to avoid them can. It's not so hard to be respectful and exercise restraint, even when discussiong adult issues.

The presence of an adults-only section might indicate that such topics are encouraged over other types of topics, and I don't think that's a message we want to send.

Someone.... no names mentioned made a great point that there are people offended by religion...

It irks me to see all the religion posts... but I have NEVER complained about it nor suggested another thread. (until now obviously)

To an atheist or someone who doesn't believe in God... these suggestions of prayers are surely very offensive??? Do they need to restrain themselves as us that like to talk about sex need to???

Just a thought....

Please lets not turn this into a religion thing and blow it out of context..... my suggestion was for topics other than the band that have adult content in it.

There will always be subjects that people will get upset about and you can't please everyone.

My suggestion would be to do this on an experimental basis.... give it a try, see what happens. If it fails...zap the board and its done.

I haven't gotten any PM's about folks complaining about religion....its more about the fighting and sexual content...thats it! But if its a concern, maybe there should be a thread for Religious questions / Pagan questions... I dunno...????? but lets start some where.

I should have PM'd Mr. Alex but thought this would be the right place to bring up such a question/suggestion.

Just think you could say more than you could on the restricted board... might be fun.

I don't think Heather was saying that there is a religious reason behind this (I'm sure she'll correct me if I'm wrong lol) but rather comparing the discussion of religion to the discussion of sexual topics.

I personally do not consider myself a Christian. I'm a pagan. Do the posts about prayer offend me? No, but then again, I'm smart enough to read the subject line and stay out of them, because it's not something I'm interested in reading. The only time they offend me is when it's shoved down my throat in a place where it isn't marked (say, if it was in a thread called "Scales!" or something).

I believe the sex topics should be the same way. If you read the subject line, and you're not interested in reading it, why even open it up?

If the people who don't want to read about other people's sexual experiences/problems/etc when they pertain to the band, then if we can agree to mark the subject line as such (most do), folks who don't want to read them can - simply not read them.

I think we can agree that most of us here are adults, and do not need to be segregated by our beliefs or our lifestyles. Please tell me we can agree on that.

I run four very large email lists on another subject. We started out with one, and then ended up with four, because at first, we were trying to make everyone happy by separating subjects as they pertained. Turns out, all that did was slow down the lists and make people grumpy. I can easily see that happening with this.

Oh gosh... those threads are just in fun. I think they are clearly marked by their titles & easy enough for someone to avoid. If someone doesn't want to come here because they can't stop themselves from clicking on an XXX subject then my first impression is that they are going to be waaay too sensitive for some of the other threads also.

Religion, sex, politics, whatever... it's a live and let live sort of issue to me and I love it here where all have a right to express their views without censorship. If some people don't want to come hang out--there seem to be plenty who DO. I would imagine some people (like Alex) might get more than a few PMs about a restricted separate area.

And actually, I think it would probably fail because most of us would probably not use it or just ignore it.

Just my opinion.

I can see both sides of the issue. The thing that can and has turned newbies off to this board is sometimes when you view "NEW POSTS" about 75% of the topics are non band related. It can get discouraging to wade through all the non band related topics to find something you are interested in reading.

Not sure what the solution would be in this instance.

I personally don't read EVERY thread. If I am not drawn in by the title then I won't even open the thread. If I get a PM or email about a certain thread then I go read it.

If a thread is labeled Adult topic then I scan it and go on.

I am in a personal struggle right now with my nutrition and come here for support. I also ask for prayers, white light and etc for my family when they are facing a difficult issue (EX: My mom was just in the hospital, hurricanes, etc). I have been trying to stay focused on my health, my family's health, my business development, etc than on adult content subjects. I have nothing against those topics I do find them funny at times but they can get pretty crass at times. I chose to not continue to read them at that tme.

Just my thoughts here.

'If the people who don't want to read about other people's sexual experiences/problems/etc when they pertain to the band'..

You know, I used to be a very avid poster on this board. I have nearly 3 yrs experience with the band and have been considered (as consistently told by others) to be relatively knowledgeable, wise and empathetic toward others - banded people specifically, on this board. But, for the life of me, I have yet to understand why 'I' or anyone else would need to know about pieces and parts that someone has stuck in THEIR pieces and parts? Some things I believe just should be private out of self-respect.

Forgive me for my ignorance, my social ineptness, my lack of sexual band knowledge, but can you please tell me how this could be band related?

I, as much as anyone, have a sexual side. They don't call me 'lethalwoman' for nuthin, but sheesh. And I beg to differ, this place has gone from several hundred to FIVE THOUSAND AND COUNTING, I do not sort my posts by forum section. I click on New Posts or Today's Posts and no, all the time, the section does not say whether it is blatant private sex issues or not. On a lapband board, some of us see the word 'stuck' and think something got stuck in our esophagus.

Please understand I am not picking on this particular thread as there are many that could be pointed out, I just have another life so that I don't have time to peruse through and specify. I seriously agree that if we want to have a raunchy gab-fest we should find an appropriate venue, such as a living room, chat-room, private message conference, etc.

Consider this. If you were physically in a room of 5000 people, speaking about your lapband journey, would you seriously give all those strangers your juicy(literal) details about your sexual positions, faux paux's, etc or would you most probably use a bit more decorum?

But we aren't physically in a room of 5000...

(I know, I know... I like to debate what EVERYONE has to say)

For EVERYONE's benefit... I will make sure the titles of my threads specifically say what they need to...

AND... most of you that don't like the Adult topics know by now which of us always bring sex into the conversation.

So I guess after gastric bypass surgery, I cant eat flock chips because they are fried???  They sell them on here so I thought I could have them. So high in protein and no carbs.  They don't bother me at all.  Help.

It's possible for a very high fat meal to cause dumping in some (30% or so) gastric bypass patients, although it's more likely to be triggered by high sugar, or by the high fat/high sugar combo (think ice cream, donuts). Dietitians will tell you to never do anything that isn't 100% healthy ever again. Realistically, you should aim for a good balance of protein, carbs, and fat each day. Should you eat fried foods every day? No. Is it possible they will make you sick? Maybe. Is it okay to eat some to see what happens and have them for a treat every now and again? Yes.

I'm not at all hungry on this liquid pre-op diet, but I miss the sensation of chewing. It's been about two weeks––surgery is in two days––and I can't imagine how I'll feel a couple of weeks post-op. Tonight, I randomly stumbled upon a mukbang channel on YouTube, and it was strangely soothing... is it just me, or is this a thing?

I actually watched cooking shows during my pre-op, like Great British Baking Show. It was a little bizarre, but didn't make me hungry. I think it was also soothing in a way.

How do you figure out what your ideal weight should be? I've had a figure in my head for years, but after 3 mths of recovery I'm already almost there. So maybe my goal should be lower?

      1. NickelChip

Well, there is actually a formula for "Ideal Body Weight" and you can use a calculator to figure it out for you. This one also does an adjusted weight for a person who starts out overweight or obese. https://www.mdcalc.com/calc/68/ideal-body-weight-adjusted-body-weight

I would use that as a starting point, and then just see how you feel as you lose. How you look and feel is more important than a number.

      2. Clueless_girl

I did find different calculators but I couldn't find any that accounted for body frame. But you're right, it is just a number. It was just disheartening to see that although I lost 60% of my excess weight, it's still not in the "normal/healthy" range..

      3. NickelChip

I think it's important to remember that the weight charts and BMI ranges were developed a very long time ago and only intended to be applied to people who have never been overweight or obese. Those numbers aren't for us. When you are larger, especially for a long time, your body develops extra bone to support the weight. Your organs get a little bigger to handle the extra mass. Your entire infrastructure increases so you can support and function with the extra weight. That doesn't all go away just because you burn off the excess fat. If you still had a pair of jeans from your skinniest point in life and then lost weight to get to the exact number on the scale you were when those jeans fit you, chances are they would be a little baggy now because you would actually be thinner than you were, even though the scale and the BMI chart disagree. When in doubt, listen to the jeans, not the scale!

Tomorrow marks two weeks since surgery day and while I'm feeling remarkably well and going about just about every normal activity, I did wind up with a surface abscess on on of my incision sights and was put on an antibiotic that made me so impacted that it took me more than two hours to eliminate yesterday and scared the hell out of me. Now there's Miralax in all my beverages that aren't Smooth Move tea. I cannot experience that again. I shouldn't have to take Ativan to go to the lady's. I really looking forward to my body getting with the program again.
I'm in day three of the "puree" stage of eating and despite the strange textures, all of the savory flavors seem decadent.
I timed this surgery so that I'd be recovering during my spring break. That was a good plan. Today is a state holiday and the final day of break. I feel really strong to return to school tomorrow.

Now that I'm in maintenance mode, I'm getting a into a routine for my meals. Every day, I start out with 8-16 ounces of water, and then a proffee, which I have come to look forward to even the night before. My proffees are simply a black coffee with a protein powder added. There are three products that I cycle through: Premier Vanilla, Orgain Vanilla, and Dymatize Vanilla.
For second breakfast on workdays, I will have a low-fat yogurt with two tablespoons of PBFit and two teaspoons of no sugar added dried cherries. I will have ingested 35-45 grams of protein at this point between the two breakfasts, with 250-285 calories, and about 20 carbs.
For second breakfast on non-workdays, I will prepare two servings of plain, instant oatmeal with a tablespoon of an olive oil-based spread. This means I will have had 34 grams of protein, 365 calories, and 38 carbs. Non-workdays are when I am being very active with training sessions, so I allow myself more carbohydrate fuel.
Snacks on any day are always mixed nuts, even when I am travelling. I will have 0.2 cups of a blend that I make myself. It consists of dry roasted peanuts, cashews, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, pistachios, and Brazil nuts. This is 5 grams of protein, 163 calories, and 7 carbs.
Breakfast and snacks have been the easiest to nail down. Lunch and dinner have more variables, and I prepare enough for leftovers. I concentrate on protein first, and then add vegetables. Typically tempeh, tofu, or Field Roast products with roasted or sautéed vegetables. Today, I will be eating leftovers from last night. Two ounces of tempeh with four ounces of roasted vegetables that consist of red and yellow sweet peppers, sweet potatoes, small purple potatoes, zucchini, and carrots. I will add a tablespoon of olive oil-based spread, break up 3 walnuts to sprinkle of top, and garnish with two tablespoons of grated Parmesan cheese. This particular meal will be 19 grams of protein, 377 calories, and 28 grams of carbs. Bear in mind that I do eat more carbs when I am not working, and I focus on ingesting healthy carbs instead of breads/crackers/chips/crisps.
It's a helluva journey and I'm thankful to be on it!
