The first few days ARE difficult! If you continue to be sick by day 4, consider changing your Protein Drink (if you are allowed). I WASN'T allowed, but did anyway. sugar free Carnation Instant Breakfast was my life saver. I still lost 14 pounds by the end of the 10 days. I would give it a few more days (sorry you have to suffer) and see how it goes. Good luck!

Oh ya the first few days of the pre op diet is just hell. It was 2 years ago for me and I still remember it well, the bad news is that it will just suck for a while. I was dizzy and sick for 2 weeks solid what I did do at night was eat a cracker or something and even though I was not supposed to it was just fine and got rid of the sick feeling before bed. Fat free sugar free Jello pudding was my saving grace can you have that?

I'm on day 4 of the diet and it's just about killing me. BUT... I know that there's light at the end of the tunnel and that I can do this. You can too. It's rough, but keep it up. These next couple of weeks will fly by. Good luck!

@m2012 my surgery date is 12/13 so I have another week of this. I'm worried that I'm not getting enough Protein in. Today I only had 2 shakes. I just can't choke them down. I'm having broth, sugar free popsicles and pudding, but it's getting really old. Your doctor had you start the diet without insurance approval yet? I got the approval really fast, within a few days. This whole process has been a total of 5 weeks. Good luck!! Day 5 WILL be ok for us!

The first day was terrible and I felt the same way you do. But I have to say it got easier every day and I never felt hungry. I used powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury Protein powder and have heard others say it is the best tolerated one out there. I found I couldn't taste (or smell) the Protein Powder in low fat cream of mushroom Soup and liked the chicken Soup flavor Unjury. The unflavored wasn't too bad mixed in with sugar free Jello and sugar free pudding. I was allowed other things but found I really didn't want or need them. The best part is the two weeks really did go by fairly fast and I am now less than 12 hours away from surgery. Hang in there - it WILL be all worth it.

I told my husband I figure this two weeks is as much about preparing my body as my mind - meal times sure lost the appeal!!! I ate because I had too, not because I wanted to. What a switch that was!!!

If it truly doesn't improve, call your doctor or nutritionist for some other suggestions.

Diane

I am starting my pre op diet tomorrow. I am getting exciting about the surgery but, I am a little worried about being able to stay on this liquid diet. I think it is just my anxiety though. I guess I will see how tomorrow goes. After reading this I think I will try the sugar free Carnation Instant Breakfast. I will see how it goes and make adjustments I guess. Wish me luck!!!

The first few days are the hardest. Then it just seems to get easier. But I understand whjat you're going through. It seems like it will never end. First the pre-op and then the post-op. But it does eventually end and if you are successful staying on the liquid diet for those 2 pre and however many post, it kinda gives you the strength to know that you can be successful at this. At least that was my experience. As Diane said, it really does help prepare your body and mind for the journey to come.

Best of luck to all of you. You CAN do it!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
