Don't get me wrong. I don't mean to offend. What bothers me is that you said ,

"NEWS FLASH....!!!!! It doesn't work that way... you have to still watch EVERY THING you eat (even more now), you still have to get up off your rear end and exercise..... LB surgery is not a SURE THING.... You have to work at it, and it takes time."

and..........um, yes it does work that way for some of us! I DO NOT watch everything I eat. Surgery was a sure thing for me. I do not exercise. I do not "work at it". So, the "news flash people!" thing is sort of offending in general. I don't think 100 pounds in one year is slow.

This is a learning process-keyword is process. You don't really know for sure what's going on under the postings that are worried about weight loss. Maybe they had a horrible day that day-eating the wrong foods-who knows? Maybe they have lost 50 pounds but are still wearing the same pants or maybe no one has even noticed. This forum is a place to seek support, encouragement, and advice. In my opinion-some whining is okay and even excepted. You may call it whining- but i really view it as fear. Aren't you whining about people whining? lol

i do watch what i eat and exercise....i'm grateful that i do. My skin is going back nicely. and if something should happen to my band, i can live with out it because i have learned how to adjust my eating. My problem areas have nothing to do with not exercising it has to do with having c-sections, hysterectomy g-bladder surgery and others.... But other than that, if i had never met you before you would never know to look at me that i was almost 230lbs.... and i credit that to the exercising.

so good luck to all that don't watch what they eat and never exercise.... hope you all the best.

If your superior attitude is what it takes to make you feel better about yourself, more power to ya. Whatever floats your boat. I just don't want to hear it anymore. News flash!, you are going on my ignore list.

Good.... so glad to be on your ignore list..... i'm sure some others would like you to do the same to them.

if you don't want to hear it any more then don't read my post...... its people like you that make others believe that LB is a cake walk for EVERYONE... it's not. Glad you got to take the "easy way out".... with not watching what you eat or exercising... good for you..

and i don't have a superior attitude...90% of anything i post is to boost the esteem of others. I've read a few of yours and it seems maybe the superior attitude is all yours....

Amen!!

But I am one of the ones who lost 80 lbs and still thought I looked fat ( in a size 12!).

I think many do think the band is a magic wand and they expect instant gratification ( wouldn't that be wonderful), bur it does take work- not as much as without the band, but work all the same

I understand where you're coming from, but it is a little harsh. Some of these statements get to me also, while I am THRILLED about what I have lost, I really wanted it to be more. For many, the pre-op diet takes off 20 + pounds and even with education and research, they still can't help but expect more from the band. I lost without much work and know that if I put in more effort the real goal would be met. However, few people are really able to accept their responsiblity in having gained the weight and in having to make the right choices to loose the weight, The mental is a big part of this, that's why we have to do the evals and for some surpervised weight loss before surgery. This is the place to vent, be scared, ask for help and yes sometimes just whine. Only those on the path can really understand what we have to deal with daily. Let's just try to pump em up, or just not finish reading the posts that make your skin crawl.

I love your outlook! Keep up the good work!

I totally agree with you bayougirlmrsc!:) I understand some people need to vent but sometimes it seems like people have unrealistic expectations about the band and after the 100th post about it you read from someone only weeks out it can get kinda annoying dry.gif . But I guess we've all been there before and its up to us to ignore the negativity that brings us down and for those of us having a bad day and feeling that way it's best not feed into feeling sorry for ourselves. The best motivation is to stay inspired and positive about the accomplishments we make and not compare ourselves to others. Everybodys journey is different. Those lucky enough to have a "magic band" that requires little to no effort on their part are the exception and not the rule and everyone with the band needs to keep that in mind. Good post bayougirl, some people needed to hear it.:D

Well, well, well....I have to reply to this cause oh yeah I'm on of the complainers. I dieted and excersized before the band. I wasnt an emotional eater or overeater. I researched and the positive people on this site and others have tended to sugar coat things about the band cause maybe it worked for them well, but anytime someone tries to offer a different opinion or perspective then the "band is a tool" robots come out here and post and call us whiners

I say tell the truth. the band wont and does not work for everyone. It may or may not speed up your weight loss or help you maintain it. I'm a little over a month and no I didnt expect a miracle or weight loss overnight, but I DO expect the band to do...SOMETHING! If I wanted to eat 700 calories a day and work out 4-5 days a week and not lose a thing then I could have done that without the band. I'm advocating some real talk around hear. Not all the everything is roses. So yea, I'm cranky.

There is serious inconsistancies between surgeons regarding diets and the so called "healing period" which my doctor is telling me is basically BS. It is frustrating. I've lost about 12-15lbs post surgery. Thats not counting the pre-op diet and stuff. Most of the weight you lose in the beginning is Water weight. My dr is low carb, under 1000 cal kinda guy. I've had my first fill. Lost a few pounds then now I've gained. No change in my diet.

I have to carb refeed. Look it up. It's not nice. I did that before I got the band. I didnt want to do it after, but well well well here I am again. Oh yeah i'm mad. 1-2 lbs a week is what i've been told by everyone and now I've been told i'm in starvation mode. Before I asked about this and heard that it didnt exist for band patients. Well, now I dont know what to believe. Force myself to eat more and get PB's and vomit or keep on? So since everyone is tired of some of us whining then help! Answer our questions. If you have the solution then let me know. I've posted many topics and get nada. So if you are not part of the solution then I say you are part of the problem.

I know we have to be patient, but for how long? why is it when I carb refeed I lose weight? How long do I have to do this? How many calories are too low? See what I mean? Why do I go on liquids and lose weight after a fill then back to nothing? We need answers not just criticisims.

And be happy cause I lost weight? yeah I am, but i'm still fat! I got a long way to go. I can be patient, but I need just anything to show this is working. Not stalling for weeks! Not feeling like i'm tired and weak every other day. Not being made to feel like crap by people on here who want to get in a tiff cause of what I'm going thru doesnt fit in their mold of how a bandster should act. We all cant be positive, why should we?

i do understand your frustration.... I was what they called a "slow loser" here's how my weight loss went:

Starting weight: 223.2 9/24/09

Surgery: 11/9/09

fellow up visit: 11/19/09 lost 22.4 pounds.... two week diet and right after

12/10/09 one month lost 4.2 lbs

1/7/10 lost 3.2lbs

1/28/10 lost 4.9lbs

2/18/10 lost 1.9lbs

3/4/10 lost 2.3lbs

3/25/10 lost 2.3lbs

5/6/10 lost 4.3lbs

11/10/11 lost 17.7lbs.... my one year visit.... I was at 160lbs.... total lose 63.2lbs for the year. Some people lose that in the first couple months.... yes i was discouraged, but i keep thinking, every pound gone is a pound gone forever.... that's what kept me motivated.... average lost was 5.2lbs per month.

My dr. only gave 6 free fill or one year which ever came first. Lost my insurance so after the six i had to pay $235 per fill....i have not been back to my dr. in almost a year... and in the year i have lost from 160 to 140-143... I really need a fill, but, i can't afford it now.... so have to do it on my own and be patient... 1lb a month, but i'll take it..... i'm 13 pounds from my goal of 130lb.

I didn't feel any restriction to fill number 5.... so i self monitored and stopped my self from over eating, because at that point i still could..... i also started exercising more and that really helped... Zumba... was a huge thing for me.

Keep the faith.... you will do this... you have to find the combination that works for you.... i found on the days i ate more i lost more... go figure...

I wish you all the best..

Well I feel restriction. I don't eat a lot. I'm not hungry at all. I know I am a slow loser but I didn't know that would prevail once I got the band!!! If someone would have told me that I would have still lose 2 pounds every month then shoot I would have never, never been banded. I thought the low calories and low carb diet with working out more would increase my weight loss. I feel frustrated, cheated, lied to, and hopeless. Also I've been working my butt off for 4 months now. So I'm talking about total weight loss. So here I am, I've gain 2 lbs. Just frigging horrible. I'm so tired I can't even make it thru my day.

Whoa, Texas!! You have just been banded-but I feel your total frustration! I was in the same situation-slowly losing or not losing at all. It took 3 months for the band to kick in and oh my, did it ever!! When you have a good fill you will ablsutely not be able to eat regualr sized portions. I have trouble finishing a friggen Lean Cuseine! I read all the post about counting calories and tracking calories, etc. I don't wantto do that-and I don't. My bosy gives me signals when I have had enough or when I had too much. I am more intuned with my body then ever before. This took 4 fills-yes 4!! So you are still at the beginning-you'll get there-really you will. And until then we are here to offer support and encouragement-because that's what we do!!:D

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
