Help - did I mess up? I drunk a beer.

Recommended Posts

I drunk a beer and the rule was no carbonation . I knew better but did it. What is the carbonation supposed to do?

sometimes carbonation can make you throw up... also it expands your stomach, which is why you are suppose to avoid it. I dont know where you are at in your journey, but when yhou have a lot of restriction you may be more sensitive to it. I used to be a diet coke addict, now one drink makes me puke. Litterally.

Dont stress it. Just do the best you can to avoid alcohol and carbonation so you dont stretch out your pouch or consume too many calories.

Thanks for the reply. I do feel the boalting and it has been a few hours, didn't get nauseated and may be because I slipped slowly over the course of a few hours, Calories I didn't blow but didn't meet the other nutritions that I did need without blowing the day.

My doctor says carbonation is fine as long as you can tolerate it, so I'm sure you will be fine.

Makes you burp and gives you gas! Also, be careful that you don't over indulge! Once you start loosing weight, your tolerance isn't what it once was. I learned from experiance! Karen

I'm not a heavy drinker, but since being banded I have had beer on many occasions. Not the end of the world.

Example: went to a Yankees game...had 2 draft beers! No problems at all.

Did not have any food though, just the beer and a empty stomach. drank it very slow also.

I have had a beer or 2 on many other occasions, picnics, fishing, what ever this past summer.

My dr. said her #1 rule is absolutely NO carboration. She said it stretches out our pouch, and can cause the band to slip, which means another surgery. She said the #1 lap band problem-maker is carbonation! So now, if I want an alcoholic drink, I sip a glass of wine, or a shot of bourbon over ice (both 100 calories). I didn't drink diet soda that often, so now I just don't.

My doctor says carbonation is ok sometimes.

I like to go out and drink and sometimes i have something with carbonation or sometimes I have beer. Beer makes me bloated so I generally dont like to drink it or let it sit there along time before drinking it.

Usually if you wait for a carbonated drink to settle it makes it easier to have.

My doc says absolutely no carbonation whatsoever, but my fiance's doc says it's ok once in a while. Every doctor is different. I personally can't really tolerate carbonation so I just avoid it. It gives me terrible gas pains and it's just not worth it for me. If you can handle then by all means have a beer once in a while, but don't overdo it. Your tolerance will not be what it used to!

My doc said no Carbonation. I did have soda once or twice before my second fill. Now its a different story I don't dare. When I drink I have crystal light lemonade and svedka vodka...very yummy : )

Thanks for the alternative ideas to beer. I don't drink very often but there are social occasions that I rbjoy one every now and then, I just made a poor choice the first go around.

My Dr also subscribes to the no carbonation rule for all the reasons others have stated which for me as a former Diet Coke junkie was a sacrifice... but obviously worth it....

I have two "go to" cocktails if I am in a social setting (or mindset...LOL) which warrents a drink. Many bars are starting to carry the SKINNYGIRL margarita which has no carbonation. You can also get it for 10 bucks in the liquor store. I think there is 50 calories per serving.

Also I will have Citron vodka and Water with a splash of cranberry juice and a lime in a tall glass. Its refreashing and only about 60 calories.

Being someone who could have 4-5 cocktails in an evening and not been on the floor.... oh how things have changed. I now have a drink maybe once a month and have no desire to have any more.....

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
