I am doing great on my 3 week liquid diet after surgery. I haven't cheated. I have the rest of today and tomorrow left. These past few days my mom hasn't been doing as well as she was. She wasn't really eating around me, and if she was it was stuff that didn't really phase me. These last few days she made spagetti for her and my dad. I could smell it throughout the whole house, and she knows its my favorite :( and then yesterday she brought zaxbys home to my dad. My previous fav fast food :( and now i just walked in to see her eating papa johns. AHHHH Mental hunger to the max. Im so sick of Tomato Soup and shakes. I can't wait until wed, but this is making it a bit unfair :(

This journey is full of temptations and you are going to have to learn to ignore them. The sooner you learn it, the better off you'll be. Might as well start now! If it's any consolation, I can walk into a bakery, pizza joint, chocolate store (some of my former favorite places) and just breathe in the aroma and I'm good.....don't need to eat it, I can get my "fix" from the smell. Actually, I look at pizza and, most of the time, the sight grosses me out. All I can picture is what that crust would do inside my pouch! You'll get there too!

I can ignore it no problem like you said, its just when its in the house is when i get upset.(i dont want it around) I mean i didn't touch it, doesn't mean that it still doesn't make me want to eat something. There is only so long that you can do Tomato Soup, and shakes before going a little koo koo..>.<

That's my point, you don't want them around but the fact is...that stuff is gonna be around no matter where you go. A little bit of temptation now and at home will help you not become overwhelmed my the bigger temptations you are sure to experience in the real world. Besides, you don't really expect your parents to stop eating just because you had surgery, do you?

BTW, you are doing incredibly well. Look at you....46 pounds already! That's great....Keep up the good work!

Temptation is a b*tch! I just went to get my morning coffee from the kitchen at work - black with an artificial sweetener - and some kind, well meaning colleague has brought in birthday cake. I walked past it this time, but I know it's sitting out there and there will be temptation all day because it's a large cake! At this stage I am still battling to select smaller portion sizes with these sorts of yummy foods so it's much safer for me to have none at all than to start and pig out.

Happy birthday work mate, I'm sure you didn't mean to torture me!

i am sure she didn't even think about it being all your favorites. You can't expect everyone to alter their lives too along with you. She was probaly sick of not having something bad for you too. i don't expect my family to not eat something i like or used to love and can no longer eat. yes it is frustrating, but that is life. the cravings will get better as you are able to eat more foods. the tempations are going to be everywhere you go and yes it sucks, but you have to deal with it and move on. you didn't do this surgery for nothing.

I think it's perfectly reasonable to ask that certain foods stay out of the house. They can eat them at resturaunts or whatever. You wouldn't put a bottle of wine on the table infront of a struggling alchoholic. To me it's the same thing. I would have a talk with your family. Make a list of foods you'd really like kept out of the house. Together you can come up with things they like to eat that aren't too difficult for you to pass up. Good luck and keep up the great work!

Are you serious? The OP is 19 years old and living with her parents. I think we can safely assume that it is their house and not hers. She has no right to dictate what they bring into it. Her parents would not be doing her any favors by shielding her from temptations. She needs to learn to deal with them on her own. If Mom and Dad are eating something she finds difficult to stay away from then she needs to go out or stay in another room.

I think you both are right to an extend. I appreciate the feedback!

Just remember nothing tastes as good as thin feel. Maybe you sould tell your Mom about how difficult she is making this. I think everyone should have a safe haven, with a positive support system. If your Mom is eating that way 3 days in a row , i'll bet she needs help with her weight. All the best!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
