Any July 2011 Bandsters?

Norwood hospital. I am going in for Preop tommorow. Where is Umass? Is it a hospital now, I know there is a medical school? But wasn't sure about anything else.

Are there support groups where you go.

One of my most favorite things to do is to be in the grocery store, It was so funny shopping for a liquid diet. I was a lost soul going up and down the isles talking to all my favorites. Not sure how but I still managed to spend like 5o.00 dollars. Go figure.

Hey Lisa,

My surgery is scheduled for July 19...day 3 of preop diet..I am diabetic, have high blood pressure, high cholesterol, sleep apnea, diabetic neurophathy and 40% kidney damage. I'm 42 yrs. old and the mother of 4 wonderful children ages 21, 15, 13 and 9. I just wanna live to be a grandma and like you ..just wanna feel healthy and join the rest of the world. I was a lil nervous about the surgery but considering its a outpatient procedure ..I calmed down...I am wishing you the best ...be strong ..love yourself ....WE CAN DO IT!!!!

Hi guys! Greetings from band land! I got banded on 7/6 and was home by noon the next day. Operation went very well, only three incisions and they all feel OK. Gas pains are sucky but walking does make it better. I'm super glad my two boys are spending the week with my parents, there is no way I could have taken care of them when I got back yesterday. If you have children and an option for extended childcare, I would greatly suggest it as you are going to need a little time to heal. I can't really keep down much more than Water at this point (ice chips really) so I'm going to try putting other things in ice trays ( juice, Protein Shakes, etc.). Overall feeling OK, just looking forward to a full recovery soon and my boys coming home :)

I hope all our 7/6 & 7/7 bandsters have done well and good luck to everyone else!

Does anyone else have to give themselves shots after the surgery? I can't remember what they are called but they are to prevent blood clots. Pretty big needle too...I hope I can do it!

Shauna

They have me doing shots for seven days, it's not bad at all, I promise. I am a giant chicken and I'm doing it with no problem. They had me do the first one myself at the hospital to make sure I could handle it and it was no more than 3 seconds and hurt much less than a bee sting. Easy, least, just don't over think it!

I am having surgery on July 19th. I've got a BMI of 39.2 and am on day 3 of my pre op diet. Its not that terrible. The worst for me is giving up coffee and I'm weaning myself off of coke zero. I was supposed to have the surgery a year ago, but 12 days before my surgery I found out I had mono. I had been really tired but I had chalked it up to peri-menopause, having teenage children, and working a lot. I was very sick for 6 months and even after that my labwork was still abnormal. I was cleared (again) last month. All the stuff I had already done was still good insurance-wise so I only had to do my pre-assessment for surgery again. I still had all my Protein Shakes from last year so I'm making good use of them now. I use the Oh Yeah brand. They're pretty good. The chocolate is good. The banana is not so good on its own but if you mix it with the chocolate it gives you that chocolately-banana taste.

Hey everyone - back online - had the surgery yesterday and stayed over. Just got home and my first thought was how everyone else is doing. My belly is sore and yesterday, my throat bothered me. The practice that I went through - Bluepoint, couldn't have been more awesome and the hospital - Potomac even more so. Excellent expereince all around.:D

Now, I am going to go back a couple pages on our banders pages and fill myself in on the rest of you all. Take care and good luck upcoming banders!!!!

Steph, who got banded on the 5th, went through Umass, which I think is in/around Worcester. I am being banded on the 14th at Leonard Morse in Natick :) You and I must not live far from each other, I am in Medway :)

Hi all from band land1 I had my surgery yesterday at 2:15 so they kept me in post op until about 7:30 pm. I have a difficult time with anesthesia. that has really been the only issue. I feel the same as many of you have describes...Like i did 2000 sit ups and my gas pain isn't awful. I just keep wallking. Didn't get a whole lot of sleep last night. But today I was able to rest fairly cmfortably, and walk each hour. Sounds like those of you who have posted recently have done well too!

For those of you that are getting close, keep up the good work on your pre-op diets. And know there are lots of us to support you as you enter the next phase. God Bless you all.

I wanted to let everyone know that thanks to this forum, I discovered someone with the same banding date and same hospital as me. We "met" by phone and are going to meet in person post-surgery in recovery. It is so great to have all the support of the forum, plus I now have a "band sister"! Having others to share with really makes this feel doable.

I'm on a pre-op diet, which allows one small meal a day. I bought a very tiny, yet very expensive cut of steak at Whole Foods to eat tomorrow night, my last dinner for awhile. And tomorrow will do the round of GNC, supermarket, etc. to stock up on all my supplies. So, ready as I'll ever be!

Speedy recovery to all those before me!

Hi-

I was just banded yesterday! I wish you well...the procedure itself was wonderful, but now the real work begins! I wish you much success and lifelong health!

Hey There,

Just looking for any July 2011 banders. I just started my process, but as that I am "self-pay", I am on a fast track to surgery. Although, not terribly obese (bmi 34), I am using lap band surgery as a tool for continued success after loosing weight. I have always been able to join a program(diet or exercise or prescription) and loose weight.....I've done it several times with several different programs (not a good thing), but I always gain the weight back and more. Now that I am in my 40s, it is harder to loose and faster to come back. No more, I say! I want to be heathy in my future - family history/genetics dictates that I will/can be using a walker or wheel chair from degenerative bones and joints, heart disease, diabetes. I am trying to steer clear of that but still keep seeing myself heading in that direction, so now is the time for further action. Although apprehensive about going under, I am reading all the good things about the lap band procedure and am hoping that it is just a little more than the tubiligation and endemetrial ablasion that I had done last year. At least, I am thinking of it that way, so as to not scare myself too badly!

Hey October Surgery friends...how are you doing? I've lost 15 lbs since surgery on 18th.42 lbs overall. Wearing clothes that feel great. Had a bout of cold and stomach flu and still having some nausea off and on after that but getting better, I think.
Seems like I fill up and have minor pain quicker when I eat hot foods rather than cold. Anyone else notice this?
Still sooo glad I did this.
