i am feeling the samw way now, have not had a fill yet, at first i was not hungry for weeks and weeks after band, now im almost 7 weekes and im hungry and hungry, i have a shake for bf and hours later im hungry, i wait till about 4-5 hours later fro lunch shake. dinner is measured out sometimes and i eat good, no carbs most of the time, if i have carbs its just yorgart or cheese. No sugar or bad stuff, but def eating more at dinner then i was right after surgery. I cant wait for a fill !!! i liked it when i was not hungry lol.

But its a journey so we must continue to storm through it !

i cant wait for a fill,

I make smart choices and exercise but the temptation that i know i cat eat more, or looking for more food is the hardest part.

I am just wondering when this band is gonna kick into gear. I guess I set my expectations way too high. I thought after 5 weeks post op and after having my first fill (5 days ago), I'd be seeing a steady weightloss and be eating WAY less than I am finding myself eating. Ok, so I've lost 10-12 lbs this first month, but all of that was the first 10 days. I've lost nothing since then. Just keep bounce back and forth with the last two pounds lost. And eating is.....different than before the band for sure, and less than before for sure, but still not at all the small amounts that I'd expected. I sit down to eat dinner and expect to be satisfied with 1/2 to 1 small hamburger patty or 3 or 4 small boneless chicken wings (small), but end up eating 1-2 hamburger patties, and fries, or 6 to 8 boneless wings. I can feel some sort of restriction when I swallow certain things but nothing has ever gotten stuck. I don't know what to think. I really wish this weight would just start coming off. I know the band is not going to do all the work and I'm not expecting it to. I just expected to see better results by now. I'm just impatient I guess. Sorry to whine. Maybe i'll have better results with my 2nd fill on May 25th.

1. It's total BS that you will be satisfied with 1/2 a hamburger patty. It's just not true. In the long run you eat about 4oz Protein, and 1/2 or so cup of veggies/side. Part of it is mental... I mean mentally I'd never be satisfied with that little food.

2. You aren't gonna lose weight eating hamburgers and chicken wings and french fries (I know you know that).. You have to count your calories, make it 1200 and portion your meals out accordingly. You can eat MORE food if you chose healthier options.

3. You are still healing, when you start back on solids your body is readjusting, everything should even out soon.

4. The band doesn't do much at all, it's a piece of plastic! it helps control your hunger after you get fills (it presses on a nerve and the hunger hormone isn't released, so you can eat less and not be hungry). It won't stop you from putting food in your mouth, or from eating the bad things. I wish it did haha, but it doesn't! Just follow the diet.

You only have shakes twice a day? 7 weeks out? I know every doctor is different, but I was told to stop the shakes as soon as I could eat enough hard Protein. Shakes are just liquid calories, not going to fill you up or fill your pouch up.

Hello. yes shakes a day and then one meal 3 oz of protien 6 oz veggies, I know its so different seeing all the other posts. I have SF popcicles and a snack. Its so much worse when im PMSing,I always want more food. I go to the DR on the 12th for hopefully a fill. My surgeon gives us a xray first to see the band in action . But from the way i feel hungry i def feel like i may need one.

I use myfitnesspal and jot down the times i eat/drink to i clearly see that 4 hours is a loooong time lol

Lets start at the begining.

One the band is tool but without the right food plan and exercize program the band will not work for anyone.

I was banded March 24th, 2011. I did not have a fill untill May 6th, 2011. I did manage in that time to lose 35 pounds. Not because of having restriction because I lived like I did. I measure everything that goes in my body, 4 ounces thats it period plain and simple. No extra fats, no hamberger patties, no fried foods. Scrabbled eggs are good, or one packet of oatmeal or wheat hearts are good breakfasts. lunch meats from the deli I get them to slice it thick, one large slice, a slice of cheese and an ounce of dill pickel is a lunch. dinner baked chicken breast four ounces, and if ive been good I will have a cup of organic salid mix and vinager dressing with a tea spoon of minced garlic. Thats it, keep it simple only eat the amount that is safe to protect your band until you get the fill that will give you restriction. If you eat too much now, when you get a good fill your going to eat too much then and either make yourself sick, or damage your band and none of us want that.

A friend of mine got banded by the same doctor on the same day. She has not lost any weight, she had her fill before I did however she got hers without the fluroscopy. She has no restriction. I had mine done with the fluroscopy got 6.88 cc in my band, I have great restriction.

The band is a tool but if your not living the program, eatting the exact amounts you should be you really are cheating yourself. Hamberger patties are loaded with fat. You have to watch everything now. I hope your able to get things going the right way.

I understand what you all are saying and I appreciate your replies and encouragment. As I stated, I do know that the band doesn't do all the work. I was aware of that going in and am still aware of that. And I realize that hamburgers and chicken wings are not the best choice, and knew I'd get some rap for that but I was just being honest about what I'd eaten that particular day. I don't always choose that type of food. Many times it's chicken breast and veggies or salad. More times than not actually. With that said, my point is, if I had the willpower to eat low fat, low carb, sugar free, etc, in 3 oz portions, without any restriction, I'd have not opted for something as drastic as lapband. (to me it's drastic) I know that the choices of food are mine to make and the lapband is not going to do that for me, however, I just expected that I would be satisfied with 3 to 4 oz of food so making the choices would not be so difficult. I mean that's the point of the lapband isn't it? To make you feel satisfied/fuller on small amounts of food, therefore decreasing your intake to the point of weightloss? I am sorry to be so gloomy about it. I know many people have the willpower to make this work for them early on. I guess I just haven't found it yet. I called and moved my 2nd fill appt up to this coming Monday. Hopefully that will help some. Just being impatient I guess. Hanging on to the hope that after like others, after several fills I will reach "the sweet spot" and things will start happening for me.

Thank you for taking the time to respond. I really do appreciate all input.

Jennifer

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
