Medically Supervised Diet Pre-Bandsters...

Recommended Posts

I thought I'd start a thread for everyone that is currently waiting their 6 months medically supervised diet before they are approved for the band.

I'm going to my 1st meeting with my doctor who is also my chiropractor on Wednesday. I'm hoping the 6 months goes by quickly.

mine went by really quickly....so, quick in fact, that i was so not ready to get surgery at that six month mark! i was a little glad that there was a hold up with my records for a month or two...i was going to these appointments every month on auto-pilot assuming that something would come along and mess up my plans...i needed time to wrap my mind around it all!

your insurance will allow your chiro to do the supervised diet? That's awesome, because chiro's are really good for that sort of thing.....

I'm off to my 2nd nutrition class tonight. At times it seems like everything is going quickly, but at others it's inching along. Hoping to have my surgery at the end of May, as my deductible resets on June 1st!!

I am on month two of my medically supervised diet. This has been difficult for me mentally because I am teetering on the BMI of 40 ledge and don't want to lose weight and get disqualified. All of my overweight life I have been conscious of what I eat and now I feel like I am sabotaging myself by not focusing on losing weight. Weird huh?

Don't worry your weight goes off you initial weight when you had your first appt, so even if you lose weight or your bmi goes under 40 it wont matter, insurance company make us do the 6 months diet because they want to see you committed.

I just came from my seminar tonight and I have my initial consult on Thursday. I have BCBS of DE and they are requiring me to have a 6 month supervised diet. So hopefully I will start with my first visit by the end of this month or early next month.

I am also tetering on the edge of the 40 BMI for the surgery and I dont want to loose too much weight where I will be disqualified for the surgery.. Im anxious to loose weight though!

Mewizza- Thanks for adding that.... I just saw that you commented on the BMI worry.. :)

I am curious does a six month supervised diet include medication and treatment from an endocrinologist? I have been seeing an endocrinologist for a year now and he has been putting me on medications and giving me advice on how to lose weight. It is not working but I did enjoy working out at the gym (not the spendy membership) and have grown to love raw veggies.

I am being treated for PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) and taking a diabetic medication for the past year.

I looked at my online medical record from the community health network I belong to and it had OBESE in capital letters. That hurts! Even though its true.

So I went to my first Chrio appt he's also a MD he does a whole wellness bit for his office it's not only about back & necks it's about being well inside and out. So far he advised me to eat one piece of fruit before each meal. I go back on Friday. He said he will slowly work on the diet with me, but whatever work for me.

Cigna requires me to see a nutritionist once a month for 6 months. There is no

medication or anything. The nutritionist I see does a group meeting. First visit

talked about the band and how you have to eat after. The second visit talked

about fat, carbs, Protein, and trying to start eating right now. I guess it's good because you learn how you are supposed to eat. Some people know nothing about nutrition so this will really help them.

I also have cigna so I have to do the 6 month diet as well, but it's done with my pcp. I am currently in the third month of my diet so I hope to have the surgery some time in april. I have an app scheduled with the surgeon next month so hopefully he'll be able to give me a date. :D

I'm going to my 1st meeting with my doctor who is also my chiropractor on Wednesday. I'm hoping the 6 months goes by quickly.

Mine went very fast. During the diet I have met with a nutitionist who has taught me how I should be eating after surgery, so all in all I am ahead of the game. I go for my 6th supervised diet on Feb 3rd and I am so excited to start my 2 week pre op diet and get my surgury date!! One thing I found hard during the 6 week diet is I wanted to get going and lose weight. Well there is a fine line on the diet to not lose too much weight (cause you might get denied, or lose to little and get denied) So I started my supervised diet at 286 and I am at 274 with very little trying. Just watching my carbs. Heck I even lost 1 lb over the holidays! So I am so ready to get this party started and really get down to losing some real weight. I must say the supervised diet did go rather quick for me. I hope to be banded at the end of February!

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
