The shoulder pain for me has been worse then anything else. The doctor said if you continue to walk around it will eliminate some of the gas and the pain will go away. I have walked several times today and hasn't made a difference for me. Most people say by day 2 its much better so I'm looking forward to tomorrow.

Good luck to you next week!

I was banded yesterday (11/10) also. I guess I got lucky, no nausea, no shoulder pain, no gassy feelings.

I'm here (the hospital) for 23 hours and the only issue. Have Is with my throat. It's funny how dilauded eases surgical pain, but can't touch a sore throat!

They say the proceedure only took 20 minutes. I'm surprised that I really have almost no band-related issues. Fingers crossed! (did they really install the band? LOL)

The shoulder pain was the worst for me...It lasted a while too. If you've been given meds, don't be afraid to take them...In the mean time...

CONGRATS AND WELCOME TO BAND LAND! :rolleyes2:

I was banded yesterday as well...no shoulder pain yet...but I do have a sore throat and very bloated. The worst part for me was waking up and not being able to swallow...it took about 30 minutes for me to get that good swallowing feeling back and it scared me. I slept surprisingly better than I thought I would last night...just couldn't sleep on my side.

Good luck!

I was banded 10-11-10 and had that same shoulder pain. Mine came almost 3 days post op and lasted just that 3 days. That was the main problem I had, that and getting comfortable. Nothing the Percoset couldn't handle. The heating pad was a godsend and if you don't have one, Go out and get one ! GL on your journey!

Thanks for all the responses.

I'm feeling very sore today but expected it. The shoulder pain is not as bad as yesterday. The heating pad has helped a lot. Still trying to get rid of the sore throat. I feel the gas in my upper chest today... trying to keep walking around so it comes out. Not the best feeling. Had a hard time sleeping last night. Was unable to sleep laying down on the bed so I propped myself up on many pillows on the couch. Got in a few hours of sleep.

Over all feeling okay. I expected most of what I'm feeling so just trying to get through it. Looking forward to healing and getting my weight loss started.

Good luck to all the new November bandsters!

Hi Ape... :(

Things are going a little better today. The sore throat is still horrible. Makes you wonder how roughly they push the tube down your throat! I too have the bond instead of stitches and have had them start to itch too. Like you said, I think it's a good sign. My doctor has me wearing a binder around my stomach so the itching hasn't been too bad.

Funny you mention about the Water... I posted a new thread (accidentally under the pre-op) just a bit ago because Ive been having a hard time getting the shakes down and have had not much Water. Not sure if it's normal. Just not feeling like stuffing more down while I'm so bloated and gassy. Hopefully people respond with some ideas or advise.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
