To drink or not to drink!!??

Recommended Posts

I have been surfing through the threads here and learning ALOT!! One thing I am wondering , and have not seen Any postings about is drinking. I know it is empty calories. BUT I do like my glass of wine a couple times a week and my monthly girls night out when we drink cosmos! Can anybody give me any feed back on drinking? I am fine giving it up for a while but at Christmas or News Years I would love to be able to have a couple of drinks!

I get banded Dec 8th

U can still drink, but be prepared to have a lower tolerance. I found wine is better, beer carbonation makes me feel bloated... Good luck, just remember to offset your drinking with your intake that day. It's all about choices. I will add though that my "hangover" was a different experience and i felt worse, not like puking worse, but just eww worse. Dont know if it was a one time thing or what. I am in sales and hate to say it but "socially" drink often. I have been ok, i just limit my amount. Good luck, and Cheers!

I drink. Always have. Not with carbonated mixers and no more than once a week or so usually. But I've never given up drinking.

I drink wine, I gave up beer completely, I believe any carbonation stretches the stomach (but thats another thread).

When I was trying to lose my last 15 pounds I was drinking a glass of wine at night (200 calories) and I couldn't lose it, but then I stopped drinking wine and replaced those calories with food and I lost it pretty quickly. So I believe the alcohol affects your weight loss in more ways than just the empty calories.

Now that I am at goal I have started drinking my wine again and I have not regained any weight.

Thanks for the input! I am OK with the change in lifestyle as far as foods goes, and i am ready to start that change! BUT I was scared about giving up my wine! And I love girls night out! I might miss a few girls night out BUT that is OK! i guess like anything, in moderation it is OK!

I agree about the hangover being different. I didn't feel vomitous, but the headache was worse than most hangovers I've had and it lasted a couple of days.

I only had two glasses of white wine.

I used to be an every single day kind of drinker. I didn't get hammered, but I liked my little buzz after a stressful day at work. Cutting out the booze was one of the things I worried about. A lot. You'd be surprised though. It was a lot easier than I ever anticipated.

Yeah I don't suggest giving up drinking entirely. Maybe cut back to just one glass a wine a week though? Then it will make it more special and you can really enjoy it knowing that it's perfectly fine for you to drink. And the girls night out cosmo's... sounds like fun! Just don't over do it, but that socializing and laughter probably burns a few calories and the endorphins you would get from going out and having fun with friends are well worth it in my opinion :)

I still drink and it is never a problem. I tend not to have beer now that I have good restriction but other drinks that are not carbonated are ok. Like others said be prepared for a low tolerance. I get tipsy after one glass of wine.

The band is not supposed to restrict your life but give you more life. If you want a drink have one but dont over do it :)

My surgeon and diet guru told me no beer is allowed period...so I have faced the fact that carbonation is a thing of the past... Bud light lime was a staple for me in the summer so I will be curious to see how that goes... Reading this has really helped me because I like my glass of wine after work too so i am hopeful I will not lose that...(did i mention there is a glass right here next to me as i type).. When my diet guru said drinks only special occasions, i was like "Oh, you mean just Fridays then..." =) best of luck and never lose girls night!!!!

I always enjoyed a glass of wine while I had fill, as I had that automatic control of the band, I knew that I couldnt drink AND eat a lot too, so it evened out. I am a bit prone not to getting drunk, lol, but having one or two more than I planned.

These days, with an unfilled band, quite often I dont drink at all when I go out. I just know that now I can fit in 2 or 3 wines AND a big meal or that if I drink I will start on the cheese platter, and I am so determined not to gain weight unfilled that I just prefer to avoid the calories and the temptation all together. So I think it depends how you handle it.

I find the best way to avoid hangover is to have Water along with the glasses of wine or drinks - it really helps a lot a lot a lot. I like wine a lot but can't drink it straight - i find it too strong. I put some ice in and do have a glass of water on the side.:Banane34: Once in a while (at a bar) I have cold coors light draught beer - lowest in calories and quite refreshing but 2 is what I can handle. 3 - i'm not tipsy but feel really really full. In my younger days when I drank wine straight - when I got home I would drink several large glasses of water and that also prevented hangovers. (eating a bit after drinking helps too)

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!

      Today was rough...
I've been experiencing a headache all day today that just won't go away. I'm thinking it's now progressing into a migraine. Does anyone else get headaches from taking vitamin B12? I did some research and learned that usually a lack of B12 causes headaches. But I've noticed when I take it, I have reoccurring headaches. 😫
