milk and dairy - good or bad for weight loss?

Recommended Posts

I've heard that dairy can help you lose weight and I've heard it can make you gain weight. I'm just curious what other think/notice/heard b/c since I can't drink soda now that I'm banded I seem to have replaced that soda with chocolate skim milk made with the sugar free choco Syrup.< /p>

I think everything in moderation is the key. So many people believe dairy is mucous causing, then there's high Protein low carb diets, high carb low fat diets, the Mediterranean diet, the Japanese diet, this diet that diet, you shouldnt eat fish because its full of mercury, fish prevents heart disease blah blah blah.

And anyway, with a band you cant eat enough to go to way out on anything. I think the only real consensus is that fresh fruit and vegetables are vital for health and if you concentrate on getting those in and your source of lean Protein, who has the space for dairy 3x a day as well as fish twice a week etc etc.

You need some dairy for your Calcium so its a good healthy food if it's low fat and you dont happen to be allergic to it.

Well, one time I went for a check up at my surgeons office. He asked me how things were going and I told him I almost died on a cup of milk....Fat Free of course. It was cold and I drank it waaaay too quick and well, it hurt like hell. My surgeon looked at me and said as firmly as a father on prom night...."Who said you could drink milk?" I said, It was fat free.....He said It doesn't matter...It still has (one of them "ouses", like fructouse or glucouse) and it will stop you from loosing weight, no matter what the dairy industry wants you to believe. This is why my surgeons office wants us on Calcium suppliments. It is all up to what your doctors office recommends.

I agree with the "everything in moderation" motto.

We drink 2% milk or light soy milk here, and also low fat dairy products.

We get regular cheese, but make sure that it's eaten in limited amounts as well.

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
