August Rush in bandland!

Recommended Posts

I have been having problems with my band as well I get stuck 3-4 times a day and have to throw up just as many times

I spent 18 months like this! Not good! My thinking of "oh well, this is my life now or more is better" is dangerous! Sounds like you need some Fluid removed for a bit to let the band rest or liquids only for a week or so. Problem is, band gets irritated and then nothing goes down causing the vomiting. You risk slippage of the band or worse!!! Please seek your doctors advice as this is not the way it is supposed to be. Once I had fluid removed (only 1cc) I felt on 100% better. They have since put 1/2 of that back in and I am in the green zone.... Good luck!

I also haven't been here for awhile. I have lost about 45lbs. In the last six months I haven't lost anything, but I also stopped tracking my intake and started eating off limits foods. The band does still keep me from over eating, which is what I wwant it to do. I really do understand that the band is a tool and I still need to do what everyone else doees (watch intake and exercise) to address my weight. I am still very happy that I got the band, and I feel very lucky that I haven't had issues with it.

My band has become so finicky it isn't even funny. I had to go in Saturday for an emergency deflate. Seems my flight 2 weeks prior caused my band to tighten up. liquids were only trickling through, and you can forget about food getting through. It wasn't happening. He took out .6 and told me that I was to come back in 2 weeks to get it put back in. I haven't been able to eat for the last 2 days. I guess I am swollen. I was able to actually eat a bit this morning which has been an improvement.

ok girls.... this is really happening. Tuesday the 29th Im scheduled to have my lapband taken out and revised to the sleeve. 5 weeks ago my doctor took out all of my Fluid so between that and what was taken out at the appt where my slipped was diagnosed I have gained back 20 lbs. UGH. But it was so good to be able to eat food again and not throw up and not be up half the night coughing and gaging with horrible reflux. Im going to be on a 2 week clear liquid diet post surgery and then after that another 4 weeks of full liquids. Not looking forward to it but I have been told that after sleeve surgery I WILL NOT be hungry like I was right after the band. Which is good because I remember being ravenously hungry after lapband surgery and if it was going to be like that after sleeve I dont know how I will do 6 weeks of it.

Anyways...hope you all are doing well. :) Will try to pop on here once in a while to let you guys know how Im doing.

so I had my band taken out this past Tuesday and revised to the sleeve. The surgery was more extensive than he thought becuase of the amount of scar tissue. Surgery should have taken about 3 hrs but it took 5 hrs. I was in the hospital for 2 days but am now at home and feeling ok. That is if feeling like a truck hit you means you feel ok. Im desperately needing a shower which DH is about to help me with and then its time for my pain meds. Im still really swollen and retaining lots of fluids from surgery so I've only lost like 3 lbs since surgery. No big deal though. I know it will happen. Just need to be patient! Hope everybody is doing well!

It's good to hear from you Amber! I'm glad your revision went well. Did your insurance cover it?

Amber how are you doing?

I can't believe we are closing in on the 2 year mark. What a difference 2 years can make. I've lost a whole person, and I can now see my finish line that I sat. I'm over 2/3 the way to my goal, and I'm 18.6 pounds away to my 2nd major goal. I expect to be there by the end of September. I will say that I feel that I am going to be able to maintain the weight loss.

How is everybody else doing?

How tight are we supposed to be? My doc has always said I should only be able to hold 3 oz. I've always been able to hold more than that though. I've been hungry lately so I went in and had 2.5 cc's added and now I'm tight until lunch and then I can only hold 3 oz and no more. I have to wait an hour after I eat to drink anything and even then I have to drink slowly. Have I finally found my green zone?

Hi everyone! I haven't checked in FOREVER and have realized that I really need to get back on the Band wagon!

I haven't lost any weight in about a year and know that between off-limits food and no exercise, it has been a matter of choices (and illness) that have caused me to pause in my journey. The good news is that I haven't gained any weight. =)

Since last October, I have been fighting a major depressive period that has taken a real toll (have had depression/bipolar issues for years). I was unable to make actual meals and started living on Ritz, PB, and milk. Not exactly a Protein and Vitamin rich diet. Then, in January '12, I started ECT treatments that caused me to, more or less, lose 3 months of memory. I do know that I had 3 or 4 actual meals in that entire time because, with recovering from the ECT and the anesthetic, I was physically unable to make meals, let alone mentally able.

But...I am feeling better now and wanting SO much to start exercising again, putting me first again, and losing weight again. I have about 50lbs to go, so I need to visit for support. I am hoping that reconnecting with this forum will help me do so.

I wish everyone the best of luck...hope everyone with Band issue find resolution...everyone choosing a new surgery find health and weight loss, and that we all find some joy!

I had 6.7 cc in my band and just had some taken out yesterday. My sister died tragically 2 weeks ago and I just thought I couldn't eat because of that, but I called and they said when we are under stress, our GI track swells and it could be why I feel so tight. I had them take .5 out and WOW I feel so much better. Last night when I ate dinner, I made salmon and baby potatoes in their individual foil packets on the grill, and I could eat enough and stopped when I felt full. Felt so much better! how much total do you now have in your band? I was the same way for a LONG time, once I found the green zone, you'll feel like you can eat enough, but not too much, but it won't be your band stopping you, it will be you stopping you! That's awesome and I'm so jealous of your surgeries! I would LOVE to have them but with my heart, I don't even dare ask my husband! He loved me at 225, and still loves me just the way I am...now 76lbs lighter! So happy...14 more to go!

It's so good to check in here every once in awhile and see how well people are doing that were banded the same time I was. Great work everyone! You continue to be an inspiration! Lap2Fab - so sorry about your sister. I'm glad you're feeling better being able to eat though! Take care, all!!

Waiting for surgery date…still undecided sleeve vs. RNY

I had the sleeve 9/13/21 and just had a the sleeve to bypass revision on 5/3/23. My HW:321 (I'm 5' 8" tall)and I went down to 254 while doing my 7 nutrition appts required by my insurance company. So just changing the way I ate, I was able to get those pounds off w/o surgery. I have many Co morbidities mixed hyperlipidemia, diabetes, htn, MI due to covid. I had read and done quite a bit of research so I could choose the best surgery for myself and learned previous to my sleeve that someone as heavy as I was and all the Co morbidities I have, it was better in my situation to have the bypass but, my DR. Kept saying I would have the same results with the sleeve. Every time I would see him and say to him that I felt it would be best to just get the bypass, he just shot me down and said the sleeve would produce the same results! Why he kept asking me which surgery I wanted at each visit just to tell me the sleeve was all I needed still a mystery to me????? Let's just say, my Dr. Was wrong you see, the surgeries are both about the same price, but the sleeve is easier for the surgeon to perform so I think my DR. Just wanted the easier since he would get the same pay no matter what. After sleeve surgery I did go from 254 to 226 BUT that's just because you are healing from surgery and can't eat anyway as soon as I recovered! I was starving non-stop. I went right back up and stayed at 248. Still had to take cholesterol meds, blood pressure meds, diabetes meds etc. I'm now almost 4 weeks post op the bypass and feel great. I'm not starving all the time, went from 248 to 220 and doing great! Not only what you just read about my story, you also hear about a lot of people needing revision after the sleeve due to acid reflex like severe acid reflex all the time. So the bypass surgery is the only way to stop This reflux if you acquire this condition after sleeve surgery. The regain possibility is higher with sleeve than bypass so just think about all these factors before you make your decision. I wish I would have just had the bypass and saved myself from having to have 2 surgeries in under 2 years. The bypass surgery was also less painful for me lol! I don't know if the new surgeon was better or what but, I was home the next day. After the sleeve I had to stay an extra night due to the nausea and vomiting all night and for pain control.

Who knew Filet Mignon would make me so sick. Leftovers from Mother's Day.  On the upside..next day I started walking outside a little over a mile without stopping or back pain. That's a bit deal for me considering how inactive I've been for years. Woot woot!

Five-week follow-up for gastric bypass and now on lifetime food plan. No restrictions.  In all that time I was fortunate to get sick only one time, week 1, on Easter. Chicken broth...go figure.
