Hi everyone, I have not been on here in a while had my 2nd fill last wed and was doing great, down 43 lbs. Then on sun am I ate some eggs and turkey sausage, I got stuck real bad. I have not been able to eat much since then maybe 1 Protein Shake a day and a little Water. I don;t want to get an unfill. Do you think I am just swollen and this will get back to normal. I would apreciate any info you can give. Thanks so much . I hope everyone else is doing well.

Laurie , being too tight is worse than not enough...believe me i know...

Well he added another 1/2 cc yesterday so I'm now at 5 1/2. I've lost 5 pounds in the past 3 weeks which isn't too bad I guess but he just keeps telling me my problem isn't my fills my problem is that I'm not getting enough Protein. He says an extra Protein Shake a day will keep me full and curb my cravings- I've never had a protein shake do that for me though. I'm getting 65-75 grams of protein per day everyday.

The most discouraging part for me is that I haven't had restriction in weeks and I've been so hungry, but I can't eat steak or chicken or roast. I can eat pork if it's fresh and hot. It's hard to be starving and limited on food choices you know? Especially when the doctor is pushing me to fill up on protein.

Hi Laura, I got stuck a few weeks back real bad also. It took a couple of days to be able to eat again without the feeling of being swollen. I was able to eat though. You might want to call the doc and tell him you got stuck and your not able to eat. He might want to unfill you a little so you can eat again.

That's great Beachbunny!

I've had people pointing out to me that I need smaller pants. I've been wearing belts so my pants stay up just fine but I have a terribly saggy butt. So I went down a size. Now my butt isn't saggy anymore but my belly is accentuated. I look like I'm a little pregnant:(

I guess it's time to start working out more.

:( OMG! I have been experiencing the same thing! I just have not went down a pant size yet because of the stomach area. I am probably about a 12 now give or take the style of pants! I am bumping up the cardio in hope to shed all over. My legs are so small now! An now i really dont have a butt!

Hi Everyone,

I went to the Dr and he said I was swollen from the band getting stuck. He took a little out and said that should help. I could not even drink Water and was getting dehydrated. The relief was immediate. I lost 10.5lbs in 7 days. I do not want to feel like that ever again it was awful. On the good side I have now lost 51 lbs since surgery. 50 was my xmas goal. I am very happy about that. Thanks for your support, I feel so much better.

I want to bang my head against a wall. I've hit a plateau. I've lost and gained the same 3 pounds for the last 2.5 weeks. I just want to be rid of them permanently.

I hope so for you. I just want everybody to do wonderful with their bands. Even on those days where I want to bang my head on the wall, I'm still happy that I did this.

I hopped on the scales this morning. I haven't weighed since Monday, and they spoke to me. They told me I had lost 4.5 pounds since Monday. My daughter was looking at me like I had lost my mind because I was so happy. That 4.5 pounds put me at 269. I can't even remember the last time I have seen my weight start with a 26.

@ tylee72198, WOW, 4.5 lbs since monday!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yay, that is a great way to start the weekend! I am happy for you.

@spoiltmom, I am back they gave me .5cc, only because my between meals hunger is so short. 1 -2 hrs maybe. Other then that they were happy with my progress so far.

I have been having the taste for some pork chops, i haven't had them since pre - op! that might have to be sundays dinner, lol.

Had my 2nd fill today. I asked him to pull out what he put in the 1st time just to make sure it went in. I was skeptical because I have had no restriction. He pulled out 2.5cc and added 1.2 which gives me 3.7 total. I wish he wasnt so conservative with the fills! I asked him to be aggressive and was told they are cautious for a reason. He told me that he normally only gives 1cc at a time but would up mine to 1.2! He will not give a fill less than 6 weeks apart so I cannot go back until Dec 27. I was really hoping to have a lil restriction through the holidays. I'm saying a prayer and crossing my fingers that I notice a lil restriction because my will power has dwindled.

I know this sounds crazy but I'm considering taking diet pills through the holidays. My only fear is that if I lose then my Dr will think the fill did the trick. Any thoughts????

I know I have to give this fill time to see how it affects me. Drinking my broth now!! :)

So I guess after gastric bypass surgery, I cant eat flock chips because they are fried???  They sell them on here so I thought I could have them. So high in protein and no carbs.  They don't bother me at all.  Help.

It's possible for a very high fat meal to cause dumping in some (30% or so) gastric bypass patients, although it's more likely to be triggered by high sugar, or by the high fat/high sugar combo (think ice cream, donuts). Dietitians will tell you to never do anything that isn't 100% healthy ever again. Realistically, you should aim for a good balance of protein, carbs, and fat each day. Should you eat fried foods every day? No. Is it possible they will make you sick? Maybe. Is it okay to eat some to see what happens and have them for a treat every now and again? Yes.

I'm not at all hungry on this liquid pre-op diet, but I miss the sensation of chewing. It's been about two weeks––surgery is in two days––and I can't imagine how I'll feel a couple of weeks post-op. Tonight, I randomly stumbled upon a mukbang channel on YouTube, and it was strangely soothing... is it just me, or is this a thing?

I actually watched cooking shows during my pre-op, like Great British Baking Show. It was a little bizarre, but didn't make me hungry. I think it was also soothing in a way.

How do you figure out what your ideal weight should be? I've had a figure in my head for years, but after 3 mths of recovery I'm already almost there. So maybe my goal should be lower?

Well, there is actually a formula for "Ideal Body Weight" and you can use a calculator to figure it out for you. This one also does an adjusted weight for a person who starts out overweight or obese. https://www.mdcalc.com/calc/68/ideal-body-weight-adjusted-body-weight

I would use that as a starting point, and then just see how you feel as you lose. How you look and feel is more important than a number.

      2. Clueless_girl

I did find different calculators but I couldn't find any that accounted for body frame. But you're right, it is just a number. It was just disheartening to see that although I lost 60% of my excess weight, it's still not in the "normal/healthy" range..

      3. NickelChip

I think it's important to remember that the weight charts and BMI ranges were developed a very long time ago and only intended to be applied to people who have never been overweight or obese. Those numbers aren't for us. When you are larger, especially for a long time, your body develops extra bone to support the weight. Your organs get a little bigger to handle the extra mass. Your entire infrastructure increases so you can support and function with the extra weight. That doesn't all go away just because you burn off the excess fat. If you still had a pair of jeans from your skinniest point in life and then lost weight to get to the exact number on the scale you were when those jeans fit you, chances are they would be a little baggy now because you would actually be thinner than you were, even though the scale and the BMI chart disagree. When in doubt, listen to the jeans, not the scale!

Tomorrow marks two weeks since surgery day and while I'm feeling remarkably well and going about just about every normal activity, I did wind up with a surface abscess on on of my incision sights and was put on an antibiotic that made me so impacted that it took me more than two hours to eliminate yesterday and scared the hell out of me. Now there's Miralax in all my beverages that aren't Smooth Move tea. I cannot experience that again. I shouldn't have to take Ativan to go to the lady's. I really looking forward to my body getting with the program again.
I'm in day three of the "puree" stage of eating and despite the strange textures, all of the savory flavors seem decadent.
I timed this surgery so that I'd be recovering during my spring break. That was a good plan. Today is a state holiday and the final day of break. I feel really strong to return to school tomorrow.

Now that I'm in maintenance mode, I'm getting a into a routine for my meals. Every day, I start out with 8-16 ounces of water, and then a proffee, which I have come to look forward to even the night before. My proffees are simply a black coffee with a protein powder added. There are three products that I cycle through: Premier Vanilla, Orgain Vanilla, and Dymatize Vanilla.
For second breakfast on workdays, I will have a low-fat yogurt with two tablespoons of PBFit and two teaspoons of no sugar added dried cherries. I will have ingested 35-45 grams of protein at this point between the two breakfasts, with 250-285 calories, and about 20 carbs.
For second breakfast on non-workdays, I will prepare two servings of plain, instant oatmeal with a tablespoon of an olive oil-based spread. This means I will have had 34 grams of protein, 365 calories, and 38 carbs. Non-workdays are when I am being very active with training sessions, so I allow myself more carbohydrate fuel.
Snacks on any day are always mixed nuts, even when I am travelling. I will have 0.2 cups of a blend that I make myself. It consists of dry roasted peanuts, cashews, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, pistachios, and Brazil nuts. This is 5 grams of protein, 163 calories, and 7 carbs.
Breakfast and snacks have been the easiest to nail down. Lunch and dinner have more variables, and I prepare enough for leftovers. I concentrate on protein first, and then add vegetables. Typically tempeh, tofu, or Field Roast products with roasted or sautéed vegetables. Today, I will be eating leftovers from last night. Two ounces of tempeh with four ounces of roasted vegetables that consist of red and yellow sweet peppers, sweet potatoes, small purple potatoes, zucchini, and carrots. I will add a tablespoon of olive oil-based spread, break up 3 walnuts to sprinkle of top, and garnish with two tablespoons of grated Parmesan cheese. This particular meal will be 19 grams of protein, 377 calories, and 28 grams of carbs. Bear in mind that I do eat more carbs when I am not working, and I focus on ingesting healthy carbs instead of breads/crackers/chips/crisps.
It's a helluva journey and I'm thankful to be on it!
