Post-op productive cough?

Recommended Posts

I was banded on June 15, and have been feeling (and healing) pretty well.

My surgeon moved me to pureed/mushies ahead of schedule at my post-op visit on Tuesday, so I'm experimenting a bit with those.

My incision seems to be healing well, but man I do not like swabbing out my belly button with rubbing alcohol 3-4 times per day, hehe!

I am becoming a bit concerned about a mild cough that I've had since 2-3 days post-op. It's not all the time, but it is worse in the mornings, when I bring up anywhere from 1/2-1 tsp of green/yellow phlegm. I don't know if this is just my lungs healing up from irritation from the oxygen tube down my throat during surgery or what. If it was constant throughout the day, I would have already contacted my surgeon's office about it, but it's just here and there, mostly in the morning.

I don't want to make a mountain out of a molehill, and my surgeon is out of town until sometime next week. Does this sound like something I should be concerned about?

I don't have any sort of fever, and am otherwise feeling pretty perky!

You really should find out if someone is covering for your doctor. Not to scare you but green/yellow phlem is usually the signs of infection. You don't need a fever to be sick. Plus you want to catch it before it turns into pneumonia or Broncitis. Which can also happen after surgeries.

Ok, so I called his office and spoke with someone, who is going to email him the details and get back with me later today.

Here's hoping it's easy. I don't mind going in to my GP if I need to, but I'd rather not do that if I don't have to do so. Dragging my kids to a doctor's office is not high on our list of fun summer activities! *laugh*

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
