What have you gotten rid of since surgery?

Recommended Posts

Ok so you hear of all of the horror stories about the Lapband and to new people it can be pretty scarey. I thought I would start a thread about the benefits. By asking you what have you gotten rid of since surgery? By that I don't mean pounds and clothing. I mean medication, CPAP machine, High blood pressure, your wheel chair, a walker or cane, etc.

Before surgery I was borderline everything (Diabetic, highblood pressure, fatty liver, high cholesterol, sleep Apnea). I wasn't taking any medication for any of those things but I would have if I didn't have the surgery. I did however have sleep Apnea and used a CPAP machine for 5 years.

I am happy to say since my surgery I am no longer borderline anything. And last week I got rid of the CPAP machine because I no longer have Sleep Apnea. YAY!!

I'd love to hear your success stories. Even if your medication has been cut in half. That's still a positive.

I haven't taken a Nexium since my surgery on 4/15/10. For the prior two years I was on a daily regimen and without it would have horrible reflux. Also haven't taken a daily dose of Claritin since surgery and don't quite understand why I'm not feeling the need for my daily allergy med as I was before.

Great idea for a thread.

TMI moment coming... I suffer from Endometreosis and PCOS. Before I had my surgery, I had my period for 4 months straight and the time before that about 3 months!!! Since I had this surgery and lost a few pounds, i'm actually on a normal, monthly cycle. It likes a miracle every month :smile2:

Best,

Lauren

* High BP Medicine (really surprised me because I've been on it for 10+ years and a really high dose)

* sleep Apnea (I don't even snore anymore, let alone need a CPAP)

* Pre-Diabetes

* A huge weight off my shoulders from being constantly worried that my health was spiraling downward uncontrollably

The next thing my PCP wants me to do is to do a trial of going off of my high cholesterol medication because she thinks I probably don't need that anymore either.

Thanks for posting this. Its a good reminder that this isn't all just about reaching a number on the scale.

LOVE LOVE LOVE this post! I was banded April 28, 2010. I had yet to go back on my Nexium. I did not take my diabetes meds (was on two) and my sugars are normal or in low 120's. My BP was 118/70 the other day! I am REJOICING at the new me! I've lost 32 pounds since pre op diet. My knees and feet don't hurt and my back went from sore to slightly stiff at times. Thank you for posting this!

My daily acid reflux pill, two huge crates of clothes, and working on my BP meds--hoping when I go back to my regular doctor in a few months, they will be gone too!! I also got rid of the terrifying thought that I would just keep getting bigger and killing myself.

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
