Ok… this may sound like a weird or maybe even dumb ?... But I am starting the pre-op stage in my journey, and I keep getting asked the same question.

'So what (dress) size will you be when you lose 50lbs, 100lbs… etc?'

So I decided to go to the source. LOL:thumbup:

This forum has answered so many ?s for me so I figured I could ask this ? And get good answers from people who have been there done that :(

Im 5'5. 336lbs. Currently wear a size 22/24. My goal weight is 180 but ill be happy with 200. im not too concerned with dress sizes but it would be nice to know what to expect. I plan on weaaring lots of dresses and skirts through my weight loss ( to void buying all sizes of clothes)

Any answers would be great!

Thanks! Sorry if this ? Is a bit superficial :(

It really depends on what your muscle to fat ratio is when you get to that weight. Someone at that weight who hardly did any exercise to get to where they are might wear a bigger size than someone who works out frequently. It's hard to say but maybe someone else knows something I don't. :(

Hard to say since all bodies are different and of course everyone loses differently but I have heard that every 10lbs equals a dress size.

At 185 I wore a 14, at 170 I wore a 12, at 150 I wear a 10. I hope this helps. By the way I think that the sizes get closer together as you lose, so you might have to lose 30 to get into a smaller size at first but when you get under size 12 then they go about every 10 pounds.

Thanks for the replies! And congrats to all for your weightloss!!!

Wooohoo!

I have a mini-goal of 300lbs. I hope that by that time ill be atleast in a size 20. Im not to concerned with sizes. I just want to have babies!!!:(

Stooopid PCOS!:(

But a size 12 would be so nice. :w00t:

I work out on a occasion believe it or not. My weight is pretty evenly distributed.

I have never seen a size 12. I swear I was a plus size new born I cant remember ever shopping in the jr misses section. I went from 3T to 3X.. (well in my mind I did):(

Keep the advise/comments coming. Im trying to take it all in :)

I am 168 right now and I wear a size 10 jeans. I never wear dresses so I don't own one, but I will need one in October when my daughter gets married. I hope to be 150 by then, so maybe a size 8 or 10 dress? I'm not buying one until about september so I won't know until then.

I guess it really does vary--case in point I am the same height and was the same size on the day of my surgery as you are--yet I could not get in a 22/24--I just after now can get in that size, but still have to go up to 26 on some things. It is very frustrating. I decided it takes about 30 for me

I'm 5'2" and wore size 8 at 115-120. I wore size 12 up to around 155 pounds. Now I'm in 18s at 190-ish.

It's not just that bodies are different, it's that sizes vary tremendously from manufacturer to manufacturer.

Plus over the years, the sizes have been getting bigger. I remember 38 years ago, I got down to 130 after the birth of my first child. I was thrilled to find an unusual size 11 pair of pants I could get into. Not I am 168 and easily fit into a relaxed size 10!! I know they are getting bigger because women will buy clothes if they think they are smaller!! Doesn't matter to me anymore but it is interesting..... Hugs!!

I was thinking the same thing! I'm 5'6 and 294 at my pre-op, I was mostly in 22/24 with and occasional 26 top....now i'm 246 and comfortably in a 20. It probably was about 40 pounds for me to get down first full size.

Good luck!

I'm 5'6" and started at 350 (size 3x or 24/26 pants), now I'm 186 and wearing a size 12 and even a few 10's. I think at 300 you will be into some size 20s, but maybe not everything. Leigha had it right. At 300, it took about 30-25 lbs to drop a size, and at my current weight it's about 10 lbs. The interesting part is that since I'm losing so much slower now, it takes about the same amount of time for me to lose a size.

WOW at y'all being 300 lb and wearing a 22/24. At 5'6" and 299, I was wearing a 30-32 top and felt that showed too many "rolls." On the bottom - jeans, etc. - I needed a 26, or even a 24. But anything like a dress I'd have to buy larger because I'm busty and my upper arms are fat.

I am wearing clothes now, after losing about 30 pounds, that I wore before I lost... it takes a good 20-30 pounds for me to tell a difference in clothes size. Things are more loose, but I still don't think I could actually go down a size and be comfortable. Is that because I lose in such an even distribution as opposed to some people where it all comes off their butt, bust, etc., first? I remember dieting once with a friend at work; I'd lost about 40 lb, she had lost 30'ish, and EVERYONE noticed her weight loss daily because it all came off her butt, which was her biggest (literally) "asset."

And it depends on how you wear your clothes, do you like them tight? loose? I am 180 now and in a size 16 I am 5"8 1/2 tall I like my clothes to fit a bit on the loose side. Nothing more tacky than a bigger person in clothes that are too tight!

It definitely depends on your body composition and the size of your frame. If you build muscle, you will fit into a smaller dress size than someone who weighs the same, but is not as muscular.

Also, if you have an Amazon-like big frame, like me, then you might still wear a larger dress size. My skeleton couldn't fit into a size 6. LOL

BTW, this isn't superficial at all. Just part of the journey.

I forgot to mention one thing, at 150 I wear a 10, my half-sister wears a 10 at 130. We are the same height. So who knows?

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
