For those of you who have been banded, which is worse? The PreOp diet, or "Bandster Hell" where you haven't gotten a fill yet?

I'm struggling with the PreOp diet, and wanted to see if it gets better or worse!

I didn't have too much trouble with pre-op diet or banster hell. My pre-op diet was 2 weeks of Atkins and banster hell didn't last long. I guess if I have to choose the worst of the 2 it would be banster hell.

The worst part for me was the hunger after the band. I wasnt expecting to be so physically hungry. I have read a lot of people talking about head hunger and I have no idea what they are talking about. My hunger was physical. My stomach rumbled and rolled and made all sorts of noises. It was embarassing.

I didn't find this web site until a couple weeks post op and NO ONE at my doctors office mentioned that I'd be starving to death a week post op....I was starting to think I'd made a mistake and would always be starving to death until I found you guys! That was a really tough time for me. Pre-op I knew what I was getting in to and there was a definite date where it would be over....They're both miserable but neither will kill ya, you just might think it will :w00t:

Both have an equal degree of suckage but after your surgery you have the added pressure of all the people who know why you had your surgery to be scrutinizing you and making comments like "Well....?!?" as they stare at you. Maybe it's just me though.

My pre-op was actually really easy. I was told to do a solid food high Protein, low carb diet. I was feasting on steaks, pork chops, chicken, steamed broccoli, cauliflower, etc. My hubby and I ate really nicely prior to my surgery.

Now that I'm post op, and starting to enter Bandster Hell, I'm not eating the steak, pork chops, etc. But I'm eating way too much (in my mind) as the swelling has gone down in my stomach and I don't get my first fill until February 2.

I'm losing (albeit slowly). I'm looking forward to my first couple of fills, so that I can really restrict how much I am eating so that the combination of exercise and eating less will kick into gear and begin the serious weight loss.

But it will be so worth it in the end!

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
