It's been 2 months since my last one and so far that is WAY too long for me to go...so fingers crossed that this fill will kick my butt in gear for 2010! Howdy!

I was banded on July 15, 2009 and have lost 73 pounds, all postop. My weight loss seems to speed up right after a fill, and then slow down until the next one. I'm looking forward to great success in 2010!

I was banded July 9, 09. I am satisfied with the results so far. Of course I still have that feeling that I want it all off right now, but have lost so much more than I ever would have without the band. I hope to be at or near my goal weight by July 2010! AND KEEP IT OFF!

I too was banded on 9 July and I am only down 36 lbs. I feel really kind of defeated right now and not sure exactly what I might be doing wrong.

I really can eat mostly anything I want to try and if it works then I finish eating and if not I am able to stop with just a bite or two. I have had only 2 fills since July and I just get so confused and feel that something is just not right when I see others who have been banded around the same time who have lost sooooooooo much weight. What am I not doing?

Michele

Hi ladies, I was banded on July 31,09 Im only down 30lbs. I haven't really tried hard core i guess. when my tummy is full i quit eating. Santa brought me the Wii Fit for xmas. I have played on it the last few days. Im sore this morning because of it. so my resolution is to be fat free this next year. I started at 236 and now im 206 I haven't weigh this week it being xmas and all. I am do for a fill on 12-30-09 but my last one was huge, I have vomited several times when i over eat , so I know it still works. so i don't think i need a fill , i just need a jump start and a good kick in the butt and need to get motivated. I love being able to get in my closet and where what I want. I have enjoyed that. so lets get workin on 2010 ladies.

wow sunshine, that is great weightloss!

what size is your band? I only have 5.3cc in my 10cc band and am very tight. There are very few solids I can eat. If they put in more right now I don't think I could even get Water through. I guess that just shows how different it works for everyone.

glad to see everyone posting!

I just had my third fill yesterday..so now i have 7.5cc's in my 14cc band. AND i go back in one month instead of 2 because i told him how it was just way too long for me and also how I have been STARVING for the past 3 weeks....

I've been at a plateau for quite awhile now..i'm hoping that this 1cc he added will do the trick..at least until next month!

HI everyone!

I was banded 7/7/09, and have lost 44 pounds. Hoped to be at 50 by 6 months, but not sure I can get there. Will keep trying. I have only had 2 fills, but I can definitely feel the difference with this last one. I think I am now at 5.5 cc in a 10cc band. Actually, I am probably too tight, but I am gonna go with it at this point. I have difficulty with 1st bite syndrome, and have lots of trouble with chicken & beef; salads are a nightmare (sometimes), and I can usually eat about 5 or 6 bites before I have to give up. The good news is, even though I only "rent" my food for a while most of the time, I still don't feel too hungry between meals. I do try to do some healthy snacking, which helps (yogurt, Protein drinks, cut up veggies), but really, I am not all that interested in food. I did eat a few too many sweets during the Christmas holiday and actually gained a pound, but it's gone now. My official weigh in is on Monday, so I will be posting it then.

In reflecting about the year gone by, one of the things that stands out to me is that I would never have believed on January 1 this year that food would not be the most important thing in my life. I still love to eat good stuff, but it's quickly losing its sparkle. Last year it was all about where to eat, what to eat, etc. Now it's not. That is requiring some adjustment, however, and it's not always good. I sometimes get angry because I feel like I have lost my favorite source of entertainment, but I am working on replacing it with other activities.

I know I am rambling, but I think I'm in a good place. I just hope it stays that way!

Happy New Year everyone!

So I guess after gastric bypass surgery, I cant eat flock chips because they are fried???  They sell them on here so I thought I could have them. So high in protein and no carbs.  They don't bother me at all.  Help.

It's possible for a very high fat meal to cause dumping in some (30% or so) gastric bypass patients, although it's more likely to be triggered by high sugar, or by the high fat/high sugar combo (think ice cream, donuts). Dietitians will tell you to never do anything that isn't 100% healthy ever again. Realistically, you should aim for a good balance of protein, carbs, and fat each day. Should you eat fried foods every day? No. Is it possible they will make you sick? Maybe. Is it okay to eat some to see what happens and have them for a treat every now and again? Yes.

I'm not at all hungry on this liquid pre-op diet, but I miss the sensation of chewing. It's been about two weeks––surgery is in two days––and I can't imagine how I'll feel a couple of weeks post-op. Tonight, I randomly stumbled upon a mukbang channel on YouTube, and it was strangely soothing... is it just me, or is this a thing?

I actually watched cooking shows during my pre-op, like Great British Baking Show. It was a little bizarre, but didn't make me hungry. I think it was also soothing in a way.

How do you figure out what your ideal weight should be? I've had a figure in my head for years, but after 3 mths of recovery I'm already almost there. So maybe my goal should be lower?

Well, there is actually a formula for "Ideal Body Weight" and you can use a calculator to figure it out for you. This one also does an adjusted weight for a person who starts out overweight or obese. https://www.mdcalc.com/calc/68/ideal-body-weight-adjusted-body-weight

I would use that as a starting point, and then just see how you feel as you lose. How you look and feel is more important than a number.

      2. Clueless_girl

I did find different calculators but I couldn't find any that accounted for body frame. But you're right, it is just a number. It was just disheartening to see that although I lost 60% of my excess weight, it's still not in the "normal/healthy" range..

Tomorrow marks two weeks since surgery day and while I'm feeling remarkably well and going about just about every normal activity, I did wind up with a surface abscess on on of my incision sights and was put on an antibiotic that made me so impacted that it took me more than two hours to eliminate yesterday and scared the hell out of me. Now there's Miralax in all my beverages that aren't Smooth Move tea. I cannot experience that again. I shouldn't have to take Ativan to go to the lady's. I really looking forward to my body getting with the program again.
I'm in day three of the "puree" stage of eating and despite the strange textures, all of the savory flavors seem decadent.
I timed this surgery so that I'd be recovering during my spring break. That was a good plan. Today is a state holiday and the final day of break. I feel really strong to return to school tomorrow.

Now that I'm in maintenance mode, I'm getting a into a routine for my meals. Every day, I start out with 8-16 ounces of water, and then a proffee, which I have come to look forward to even the night before. My proffees are simply a black coffee with a protein powder added. There are three products that I cycle through: Premier Vanilla, Orgain Vanilla, and Dymatize Vanilla.
For second breakfast on workdays, I will have a low-fat yogurt with two tablespoons of PBFit and two teaspoons of no sugar added dried cherries. I will have ingested 35-45 grams of protein at this point between the two breakfasts, with 250-285 calories, and about 20 carbs.
For second breakfast on non-workdays, I will prepare two servings of plain, instant oatmeal with a tablespoon of an olive oil-based spread. This means I will have had 34 grams of protein, 365 calories, and 38 carbs. Non-workdays are when I am being very active with training sessions, so I allow myself more carbohydrate fuel.
Snacks on any day are always mixed nuts, even when I am travelling. I will have 0.2 cups of a blend that I make myself. It consists of dry roasted peanuts, cashews, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, pistachios, and Brazil nuts. This is 5 grams of protein, 163 calories, and 7 carbs.
Breakfast and snacks have been the easiest to nail down. Lunch and dinner have more variables, and I prepare enough for leftovers. I concentrate on protein first, and then add vegetables. Typically tempeh, tofu, or Field Roast products with roasted or sautéed vegetables. Today, I will be eating leftovers from last night. Two ounces of tempeh with four ounces of roasted vegetables that consist of red and yellow sweet peppers, sweet potatoes, small purple potatoes, zucchini, and carrots. I will add a tablespoon of olive oil-based spread, break up 3 walnuts to sprinkle of top, and garnish with two tablespoons of grated Parmesan cheese. This particular meal will be 19 grams of protein, 377 calories, and 28 grams of carbs. Bear in mind that I do eat more carbs when I am not working, and I focus on ingesting healthy carbs instead of breads/crackers/chips/crisps.
It's a helluva journey and I'm thankful to be on it!
