at sweet spot-now WHAT CAN I EAT?
Janiece replied to SPARKLES10's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you can't eat solid foods you might need a slight unfill. A few weeks ago I was getting stuck on random foods that I've eaten a million times and having reflux so I went to the doc. He only took out 0.1ccs of Fluid but it made a huge difference. Or maybe try only liquids for a few days then slowly progressing to regular foods to give your swelling some time to go down. I get really swollen after pbing and can't do solids for at least the rest of the day. I also try to have a sauce on almost everything to help it go down. I seriously put Heinz 57 or low fat sour cream on everything! Foods to try: - tuna or chicken salad - medium rare filet mignon (any other cut is too hard for me to chew thoroughly) - any fish as long as it's not overcooked - Beans - Chipotle burrito bowl (I only eat about 1/3 at a time) - crab cakes - baked chicken There's also a recipe section of the forum that you might want to check out. Good luck! -
Is it normal to feel this way?
G-Ma replied to kirbymom02's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A

Only one fill - could I possibly need an unfill? Help!!!
DRCS replied to NJBandit's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I know where you're coming from except I have had no fill yet and feel like you. As long as I'm on Protein shakes, Isopure or any liquids I'm fine. In the last couple of weeks I am petrified to eat anything solid. I have been feeling like I'm going to die and then throw up for the next 1 - 2 hours almost anytime I eat solids. I couldn't chew any slower or longer if I tried it is practically liquid when it goes down. I'm afraid I did something to the band because of the vomiting, that's the one thing my Dr. said to try and be careful not to do because of band slippage or stretching of the pouch. I'm due for my first fill on Nov. 8th but am scared to get it because of it being harder to eat solids than it is now. On the other hand I need it because I am starved and want real food. One more thing ! I never feel full or that I am getting close to it. The only way I know I'm done is when I get the first feeling in my throat that it won't go down , then the chest pain. I stop immediately but it's already to late.....It's vomiting and slime time !!!! Shouldn't there be a feeling in between? I'm not even eating much before it starts. I'm lucky to get in 600 - 800 calories a day and that is including the protein drinks. -
Three weeks post op and eating/weight gain
Cotysmom replied to creed2474's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm not sure how to use this forum, but I am giving it a try. I am 4 weeks post op. I was eating food by day 6. I still lost 20lbs, but nothing since. I am working my butt off in the gym, but to no avail. I am so frustrated! I had ONE fill 1 1/2 cc's. My surgeon says my band is smaller than most people's band. I'm not sure what that means. To tell you the truth, I don't know much about my band at all. I don't have restriction and if I wanted to, I could eat a full meal. I don't. I try really hard to eat small amounts and drink my protein shakes. I switch to liquids once or twice a week, but still NO weight loss! Is this normal!? I'm beginning to think I should have had the gastric bypass. I'm so jealous of those people whose weight just falls off. UGH! HELP!! -
Well, I'm back. There were three women I knew at the party, and all three of them expressed a good deal of amazement at how I looked. Thankfully, none of them came right out and asked how I did it, so I didn't have to deal with that question. Two of them, though, did make a comparison to themselves and how much weight they're steadily gaining as time goes on. I've been thinking about why comments about my weight are not welcome, and I figured out it's because they feel to me like attacks. Of course they're not, but in an otherwise-successful life my weight has always been my one vulnerability; having it addressed directly by anyone has always felt like a body blow. Even compliments seem to belong in that category, still. Oh, well. Another 20 years of talking about myself in support group meetings and maybe I'll be able to handle attention with more aplomb.

I had four cc in a VanGuard on July 6th. I probably still had some swelling from the fill and that is why I got stuck. Being only three weeks out from banding you probably still have swelling also. Myra

I had to have a barium swallow today, I am having alot of pain in my chest back and up into my neck... feels like gas but not sure. I have not had a doctor in a long time because mine retired but thankfully last week I found a new doc and he sent me for this test.... I am very nervous for the results.. when I looked at the tv monitor during the test things did not look right. I am praying that my band has not slipped. I had at times overeaten because I was not restricted and was hoping to just have this new doc give me a fill so I could be restricted again but now all this pain I am having is really driving me insane. Has anyone else had this kind of gas type pain?

Is Anyone's Restriction "Stable"? Or Do I Keep Getting Fills Forever!
kpiekkola replied to gainesvillegirl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Banded 11/07 March 2008: Lost about 25 pounds I started having port rejection problems that were just resolved in August 08. I had a new port put in. The surgeon said she filled my band all the way up to 4cc FULL. I had great restriction but now just a few weeks later I feel like I can eat again. Example, last night for dinner I had 1/2 a baked pork chop, mashed potatoes, and peas??? Can I loose the fill that quick? -
Well its January 5 th 2008. Well after the 1st fill I new I felt full longer, but I really did'nt feel any thing yet. About 2 weeks after the fill I went out to eat with my husband and fI had my first experience I thought I was being good I ordered a salad with chicken on it and ond got a few bits of the chicken when I suddenly felt pressure like I was so stuffed. I believe I was stuck by the time I got home I was in horrible pain.:omg: It took a long time to come un-stuck I no I will never eat that Kind again. Not worth feeling that way.. I just think its funny that all this time I did'nt no what to expect.. I think I'm getting the picture now.

1st day of liquid diet!
meanmom04 replied to meanmom04's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
:thumbup:ok up date: Doctor is letting me eat a small dinner with soft foods only but nothing after 6. well, I did really good today, for my dinner tonight i had plain mashed beats with a 1/2 cup of sherpards pie.. it was so cool I acutally felt when i got full and STOPPED!!! I left over half of the small dinner on the plate!!! I have NEVER done that before. Even though I am allowed to eat a small soft meal this week it is back to nothing but liquids next week. So I have decided that if I can go a full day without the meal I am..practice for next week as I see it. -
how many fills does it take...one,two,three..?
stevegoad replied to justicenyce's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well, I just had my third fill. At 6.1 now. I have been told it might be 4 5 or even 6. So with three, I am currently feeling a difference, though day one is hard to say if it will stick. Just hang in and don't worry. The "sweet spot" will most likely change as you lose weight anyway. -
2 nd post op day and I feel lousy!
mnbsleeve replied to KathyD49's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved 6/6. Similar experience. First few days were the toughest and I seem to get worse day three or four. I came home very late on day two. I think for me it was coming of the meds on the IV. I took antinausea meds for about 4 or 5 days and then did not need them anymore. I didn't really need pain meds except for first night home. For some reason day 5 seemed to be "magical." Everything started to turn around and steadily up. No more of the "up and down" feeling. Hang in there. It's a big surgery but it's amazing how our boddies bounce back. It's no fun but it DEFINITELY gets wayyyyyy better. MNB PS: about 10 days out I started to feel incredibly well!!! Lots of energy and just plain ol' happy! :-) Hope this happens to you!!!! -
Post Gastric Sleeve- Not Loosing Weight-Is this normal?
Stephanie Voss replied to Avery99's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had mine on 1/18/16, lost 20lbs in the first 10 days, then gained back 6 and have stalled. I'm encouraged that at least I'm not the only one who has stalled, but the weight gain is what has me worried. Guess we'll have to have patience and wait it out, which is always fun... -

6 weeks post op...can't tolerate as much food
Pillar2butterfly posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Perhaps this has been discussed before, if so, my apologies... I'm 6 weeks post sleeve...losing fine, plowed through first stall...eating 60 g low fat Protein daily (meats, eggs, etc), little to no carbs, working out for a hour 5 days a week. However, it seems like now, after being on this diet for over 2 weeks, I seem to not be able to eat as much as I did 2 weeks ago. I was eating 2.5-3.5 oz of protein (like diced chicken or shrimp)...now I can barely get in 2 oz and I'm feeling that really full feeling, almost to nausea. I chew to applesauce consistency and still get this feeling....so I cut back, and eating more often. Is this normal after eating more amount for a couple weeks, and then not being able to eat as much? But even that leaves me to another issue....since I eat more often, but less each time, having to wait 30-45 minutes to drink in between, I'm now struggling to get in the 64 oz of Water. Good grief, it's like I am constantly putting something in my mouth! (this part was merely a rant) -
I wonder if I need a few more calories as I only take in about 450 day. I see the nutritionist next week and hopefully she can help me figure this out. My Doctor said sometimes the weight loss can be slow up to 3 months out. He said that I will plateau for a week or two then drop 5 pounds in a day and that it is not necessarily a steady decline.

Stay calm. It is common to take a few weeks before you begin to lose weight. Your body is in a major heal mode and allowing it to heal is the prime goal at 10 days post-op. For one thing most patients gain weight while they are in the hospital because they are pumping fluids into you. So you have to first lose this added weight before you begin to see a weight loss. So stay calm, follow the directions (meal volume, Protein, fluids and vitamins), relax and let the magic happen.

Anyone else have an issue getting stuck on fish such as salmon and other meaty fish? I tried to order this a few times at business lunches and it's not been successful. I have learned to slow down and take small bites so it's not a complete stuck episode but I have to go to the bathroom and lean over to get it to go down. This last fill that I got last week is really giving me restriction. I have to be very mindful (not a bad thing!) of what I eat now.

Surgery may 2 and I'm still in a stall
-
I am 7 weeks post op and am having difficulty with vomiting after eating meat or fish. I will chew it for at least 60 seconds and even after a bite or two I will throw up everything and it tends to continue for a few hours. I grill my meat or broil it with no oils and I do not understand why I can't keep it down. I can't even do protein shakes as they make me sick so i'm living off of yogurt and i have oatmeal in the morning. My doctor put me on meds but it's making it worse. I'm not losing a ton of weight. I have to add that my surgery was a revision to 2 previous nissen fundoplications so I also had work on my esophagus . Can anyone recommend anything else I can eat to get my protein? Also, any suggestions on incorporating fish or chicken without getting sick. Ren
