  1. 12 days post op isnt that long .. be kind to yourself and and rest a alot, dont expect to be full of energy and u can walk as exercise, it is good for you .. eat what u have been told to eat with maybe some fruit juice and suppliment it with some multi vitamin, your body is adjusting to the new lower food intake so dont be expecting too much too soon and the soreness will eventually go, we all heal at different rates, just be patient and it will all be ok .. being tired after any surgery can last for a good few weeks .. rest a alot and eat well u will be ok

Going On 12 Days Post Op

Hi Donna, I am a newbie and have not been banded yet "waiting" but I will say that you have had a "surgical procedure" and your body needs time to heal. Your body heals from the outside first then inside or internal organs. I would make sure your drinking the correct amount of Protein and make sure your blood count (CBC and Diff) is normal-check your temp is normal 98.6 and there is no drainage out of your port-if you don't feel well in a few days, call your doctor. I would say it would take about 6 weeks till I would start to exercise, just like walking and some arm weights. I would not do any ab work or treadmill till your feeling better. I am not an expert, so I would check with your doctor. Good luck.

When is the last time you lost 22 lbs in 2 weeks? I am having the surgery in 3 weeks and I hope to do this well.

    Nervous About Liquid Diet

This is the beginning of my second week. I've been drinking protein drinks from store, jello (samll amounts), chicken & beef broth. My first week I didn't feel like drinking much cuz I hurt. I got alot of my drinks from the office I went to prior to surgery.
  6. I don't count carbs, because a lot of good foods have carbs.. I have gotten rid of bad carbs, like bread, rice, sugars, pasta.. I allow carbs that are in veggies and protein, as far as fruit, I don't really eat it because fruit is high in sugars.. I eat very very little if I do, just 2 bits or so and it's just about 1 x every few weeks or so.. 15 is low for carbs.. from what I've read on line, 100 grams or lower is good per day is good..
  7. Expect the unexpected!!! I felt amazing the first day or two after surgery but after that things went crazy and I spent two weeks in and out of the hospital. I'm finally starting to feel ok again and I've gone a full week without being hospitalized! I have always done great after surgery (I've had 3 previous abdominal surgeries) so I figured this one would be a breeze too.

Post Off Day 5 Days So Bloated!

I am three weeks post op and feel about 90% recovered. I felt the change from pain to just being sore around week 2. However the difference each day after the first week was relief in itself. My port incision still feels bruised and unless I hold my belly it is sore when I walk from my belly moving. It truly gets better everyday. I took off four weeks and I believe by week four I will have little to no soreness. A friend of mine told me about an abdominal band that you can get from Walgreens that holds your stomach in place but isn't tight. You can find it near the pharmacy with the leg braces an ace bandages. I would wait until your wounds are healed and the stitches are out but it is a life saver

    psych eval for surgery

Mine was pretty simple. I'm an easy going person though and chatted it up with her. I felt comfortable and it was easy to talk to her. She did say because I drink roughly (6 beers a week) that I was borderline having a drinking problem. Thought that was a little strange but assured her it was socially for football and what ever. She passed me!

    psych eval for surgery

6 per week is a drinking problem? My friend must be a full-blown alcoholic, cuz she can knock back 10 at a time!
  13. I took Tylenol and sudafed 12 hr last week when I had a cold. (VSG 10/25) Drink plenty of warm fluids and that will help soothe your throat as well. Hope you feel better! Sent from my iPhone
  14. Well I had my 2nd fill yesterday. It was 1cc... so the doctor tells me that I'm at 3 cc's now and I'm not going to have much more room for fills. While I was there we also discussed my portion sizes, because at my 1st fill he told me I should be eating an "egg-size" portion. Well, I've really tried, but I usually can eat like 2 or 3 times that amount! He told me that I shouldn't eat until I feel full... that I should only put the alotted serving size on my plate and only eat that!! And then he said that basically if I don't change my portions that this surgery isn't going to work the way it's supposed to work! So now I'm questioning myself. Was this surgery was right for me? I was under the impression that the band was supposed to make me feel fuller? I know I have the psychological stuff to deal with .... eyes bigger than the stomach type thing, but I feel like I've made big changes as far as that goes.... I don't eat in between meals! and I don't drink with meals! And I haven't even had ONE sip of soda (of any kind!) since a few weeks before my surgery! I dunno... I guess I'll have to work harder! I've come this far! And spent this much money!!
  15. I know! Depression really plays a huge part of your overall health and I think if I could just get out of this rut I could lose again. At least you are going to the gym. I might get another fill this next week and see if it helps. Thanks for responding. I don't want to be a Debbir downer but I don't know anyone who has had the band done so it help to talk.
  16. Very interesting day today. Traveled 4 hours (one way) with my wife and I because it was the closest person who can do my aftercare. Was banded in Mexico. Here were the details: 1) Very surprised that .4 of a cc was actually in the band. The Nurse Practitioner said that is not surprising because they do test and put saline in the band to make sure its working and sometimes they don't get it all out. Dr. Kuri told us he was going to put no fill in the band at the time of surgery so needless to say this was a surprise for me personally. 2) She put a total of 1.4 cc's in the band total (including putting back the original .4 cc that was there at the time of surgery). My band has 4cc capacity as a whole. So as of now, my band is 35% full (yaaaah) 3) Very strange as she was putting the saline in, she told me to sit up and drink some Water as she was putting the saline in. She was testing if I can handle the increased pressure of the band once she started putting the saline in. Some people can handle it and some can't. I asked her why she asked me if I can handle it and she said: some people start sweating and get dizzy because of the increased pressure the band puts on the Vagus Nerve. I told her no...and I was fine. A strange question she asked me was: Do you feel less hungry as I'm pushing the saline in your band? I'm thinking....I wasn't hungry when I came in...so how can I feel less hungry as the she is putting in the saline. Just a strange question but maybe the band has this effect on some. 4) There were 5 total girls in the room with my belly and scars exposed to them all (while the she was injecting the saline in the port). Apparently, she was doing some training with the local girls at the Junior College who were in the Nursing Program. Although uncomfortable intially, I had fun with it and said: I didn't think today that I would drive 4 hours one way to eventually be in a room with 5 pretty girls looking at my belly (lol....they all laughed hard ) 5) Lastly, on the 4 hour drive home, I started to get dizzy and lightheaded. My wife being a nurse said the following: "I think your brain is finally feeling the effects of the band being tightened which has put a little more pressure on the Vagus Nerve. Without going through the Nursing Lingo...apparently, your blood pressure changes as well as your breathing which causes you to get a little dizzy or light headed when the Vagus Nerve has pressure on it. In closing, I'm so happy I got my first fill. Looking forward to working with this tool and making some adjustments to my lifestyle. One thing I have to do is discipline myself with Protein in the morning and not to exorcize late at night (8pm-10pm) because then I get hungry late and stay up late. Cheers to everyone on this Journey !! Thank you for everyone on this board (including my help mate, best friend and the love of my life) for helping me make this journey all possible

    Feel sick!!!

    It might have been the tomato sauce or cheese. I couldn't handle either of those at 3 weeks postop. (Took me about 10 weeks to really get comfy with those). Try not to despair. You'll be able to eat real food again, just maybe not so soon. {Hugs}
  18. I am on my third week and I am on puréed foods. Everyone has been telling me to try the ricotta bake. I made it tonight it tasted like heaven but after 3 bites I was sick. It was sitting in my chest and I felt like throwing up but didn't. Why would I feel like that if I was allowed this and I don't know what could have hurt me. I'm disappointed the one thing that actually taste good and I get sick. I feel like I will never eat my favorite foods ever again. I am so upset!!!
  19. Believe me I’m trying I guess I just get frustrated from time to time! I’ll try eggs again in a week or two as well as milk and hope that it will sit well eventually. Herbal tea has helped lots when I can’t drink plain water! Thank you!

    Fresh juicing info requested please

I was not allowed to consume fresh juice until six weeks out. I juice frequently and it's a FANTASTIC way to get all of those wonderful micronutrients from the veggies. The only thing is that I just have to be careful of how much fruit I'm using. I try to stick with kale or other greens, cucumbers, lemons, ginger, celery and just enough apple or orange to make it palatable. And I do enjoy an occasional carrot-apple juice when I'm not trying to be all low carb. I juiced right up until my surgery and I had a fantastic recovery with very little inflammation of my sleeve.. my incision sites healed so quickly I was discharged from the hospital with only one Band-Aid. I don't know, but I think the juicing really helped make my body ready for surgery.

    Plateau already?!

I am 4 mos. post-op RNY. I hit a plateau for 3 weeks in February. Boy was I pissed! I just saw my endocrinologist 2 weeks ago, and am now hyperthyroid. She lowered my dose by half. I was on 250 mcg/day; now 125. I'm honestly scared it will turn back to hypothyroid and I'll either gain or not lose. My hair is a mess. I started losing it a month ago. I keep cutting it shorter, because it's not styling nicely and is so darn thin. This has been the most frustration since surgery. I started tracking every bite of food 4 days ago, and am already seeing the weight come down some. I'm avoiding carbs like the plague and trying very hard to get my Water in.
  22. I'm still in preop stages..I'm looking to have surgery about 2 weeks after my daughter's first birthday. Does anyone have any advice/warnings? I will have my husband and mother to help me. Thanks in advance!
  23. I haven't increased my workouts since surgery a week ago. The only changes are: I had surgery, take in less fluids, take in less nutrients, take more meds (antibiotic, pain meds, anti nausea meds, blood clots shots, liquid ibuprofen, Multivitamin, and Calcium supplement). The pain only started 2 days ago and it is excruciating. I had no problem walking 2 miles before surgery, but can barely stand up from a seated position or walk stairs because the pain is so bad. I might think it was an injury if it was 1 knee, but it is both and just started 2 days ago.
  24. Thanks for the help. I'll probably give it another week and if they haven't stopped hurting then I'll make an appointment with my Orthopedic doctor. However, after looking at all of the side effects of my new meds it appears that my new antibiotics given to me after surgery can cause joint pain and tendon issues.
  25. it happens to everyone - it's just Water weight from the IV. Wait a week or so after surgery before weighing yourself - it'll be gone by then
