  1. Just curious how often you get hungry. I am two weeks out today, and it seems that I get hungry about every 2-3 hours. I ate my lunch at noon (1/4 cup of cottage cheese) and my stomach is growling for more food (almost three hours later). How often do you find yourself needing to eat?
  2. I went to Disney approximately 4 weeks after surgery and I didn't have any problems at all.
  3. Hey, I had my surgery on December 7th and have lost 43 pounds. I lost 21 pounds that first month, but I did have a stall by the third week. I was annoyed. I am still losing and sometimes I go a week without losing weight. I know it is frustrating, but you are going to lose the weight. You seem to have done well so far. You just need to keep doing what you are doing. Maybe lay off the crackers. My surgeon has me on 400-600 calories until I lose 75% of my weight. I guess some doctors are different with what they want others to do.
  4. I'm 18 days post op today. I've gone from 214 at the time of surgery down to 201.1. And there I sit... all week. I know that is remarkable weight loss for just 3 weeks, but I was expecting to be in the "honeymoon" period a bit longer. I feel like I'm in a bad relationship - he's good to me for a few weeks and ignores me for one. It just seems cruel to teeter me at the precipice of Onederland. I want in that land really damn bad. I need some reality checks and pep talks. I've been battling dehydration for the past three days and really focusing on getting in my 8 glasses of water a day (64 oz). I also find that I eat an average of 800 calories a day - 60-70 grams of protein, 18 grams of fat, and about 35-50 carbs a day. Ideas?
  5. The first few weeks I was hungry about every 2 hours or so. Now I'm 8 weeks out and for the past 2 weeks my hunger is almost gone. Sometimes I feel hungry around lunch time but I try to keep myself on a schedule. I usually eat 6 small meals or snacks a day so hunger isn't usually a problem.
  6. Ok I am two weeks out and did great the first week now I am not losing any weight. How do u know when u are eating to much or the wrong stuff. I seem to be able to tolerate things that I should not be able to. Also I have had my menstrual cycle since I came home from the hospital. Ugh I am not sure what to do..... please help

    time table

Mine took 4 weeks. I've seen some have surgery the following week, and others waiting 2 months. There is too many varieties of what the doctor is looking for also.
  8. I have problems with my lower back, S/I joint, and hip, which was one of the reasons I decided to get surgery. I was caught in this cycle of not being able to exercise (or even take a short walk), and then gaining more weight, which made the pain worse. Like you, I was also concerned about being able to walk after surgery like they wanted me to. But since surgery (just 1 week ago) I've actually been able to walk better than I have in a couple years without pain. I lost about 25 lbs under the dietitian's monitoring for a couple months prior and on the pre-op diet, so maybe that was enough to get some of the pressure off my back. I only took pain meds in the hospital and before bed for a few days after, so I don't think that's it. The recumbent bike may be a good way to get exercise in, but part of the reason that they emphasize walking right off the bat is to help work out the gas that's pumped into you during surgery, so I don't know if the bike would help with that or not. Good luck! Here's to no more (okay, less) pain! Edited to add: Like @@kimby1029 said, Water aerobics is great for joint pain. I cannot wait to get back to my classes at the Y. If you can find some deep-water classes, even better, because you won't be pushing off the floor of the pool, so it's even less stress on your knee.

Warfrin and the pre op diet

Thanks Restlessmonkey I am glad that the green vegies decrease the effect rather than increase it as I don't want to have a bleed etc. The trouble is everyone is still in holiday mode over here in Aus as the surgeon, hematologist and nutritionist are all away until one week into my diet. I am happy to eat any green vegies cause if that is all I can have I had better vary the dishes or I will go mad. Thanks for your help I feel a little better about the whole thing I was just reading in another thread where someone said they could not take asprin with the diet drinks and that got me thinking maybe the whole diet part would have a big impact on the warfarin level. Thanks again Kristiner
  10. I had the Lapband surgery back in 2010. Lost over 120lbs in two years. I had a baby in April 2013 and all fluid was removed from the band during pregnancy. I started to get fills again three months after my baby was born. These fills have not been the same since my pregnanacy. I no longer feel they are working. I have gained back 60lbs total and have had the hardiest time trying to no continue to gain back more. Recently I had an upper GI and no problems with the band. I continuously tell the doctors that I am having bad heart burn/reflux and able to eat EVERYTHING. The just gave me prescription for acid and filled me again. I am at 7.5cc now. Although this is my third fill I have had and now I can't even keep water down at night and must return to have fluid removed. I keep thinking that there may be an erosion or slip because of a weird cold sensation I keep getting in my abdomen area. I have never heard of this feeling for the band before. I am unsure where to go from here. On one hand I need to loose this weight on the other I want this fluid removed because of the issues I am having. And these doctors don't seem to have any accurate answers.
  11. I'm five weeks post op. What are some good brands for protein supplements for water? I hear people on the boards talk about these from time to time.
  12. Congratulations on your surgery approval and date!! Your journey seems a bit longer than most but you have made it and in 4 weeks you will be on a new path to health! I also got my surgery date today...it will be September 8 pending all goes well with my consent signing with the dr and all pre-ops are fine!!!! Im so excited! I had to do 3 months supervised weigh ins with the NP and nutritionist visits, a psych eval, gallbladder us, upper gi series, and some documentation that I have had an ongoing weight problem!!! 50 will be fabulous on you!!!!! Good luck on your continued journey!
  13. I just posted a similar topic just about an hour ago. I was banded 10/15/09 and seem to be stuck at a 36 lb. loss. I am eating healthy and working out at least 3 days a week. I understand about muscle being more dense that fat, I understand about weight loss plateaus, and I understand the band is just a tool, but my "inner child" is frustrated because the scale isn't moving. I understand your frustration completely. We just need to understnad that this too shall pass. Let's agree to not weigh more than once a week? Deal????? Maybe that will help out mental outlook enough to get us over the hump.
  14. Don't worry about it, did you or are you doing a liquid diet right now? Have you followed it? I am doing mine now, for 2 weeks, so I am in a week already and the 19th is my surgery date so I am almost there. I had the band back in 2010 and it didn't work out for me, and I was offered to do the sleeve after they pulled it out, but I wanted nothing to do with it at that point with everything I went through, so I think that is why I am not worried so much, but I will say that was the one thing that made me nervous was the cutting the stomach and reattaching the intestine stuff, but my surgeon is a great guy and he has done so many of them that he can probably do it in his sleep at this point so I am having faith in my doc.!!! You will be fine!!! Just stay positive!!! Good Luck!!!
  15. I was sleeved on the same day, and I had this issue during week 2. My dr recommended 3 meals a day, but I chose to add a snack and upped my water intake. That seemed to help bc I dropped a few more lbs. I also exercise everyday. And maybe increasing your protein to 60g would be good for you too. And during that time, I literally had to put a sign on the door to the room my scale is in saying "leave the scale alone!" Lol
  16. Hi im post op day 6 & today I tried to not take my pain meds. Everytime I tried to walk I had to hold my stomach in from the pain. It became so bad tonight I took my pain med again. Is this normal? Tomorrow will be a week out & I thought for sure pain wouldnt be an issue.
  17. Same advice here--Mine was 1/14 exactly two weeks after New Years, nothing going on, no holidays no vacations nothing. I didn't have to cook for any occasion or go anywhere where I wasn't exactly sure what I could eat. Just a lot less stress. Totally enjoy yourself, have a big ol' Mickey pancake and refocus when you get back

    Energy?

I am six weeks post as well. I am a hairdresser so on my feet all day too!! I have to say that each week, I feel better and able to make it through the long day. I am told that getting ALL of your protein and water in is the key to getting your strength back and losing the weight. You'll be in the same situation as me, I'm guessing. It's hard to have a water bottle in my hand at all times. Hang in there! It's getting better every day!!!!
  19. Today is the day that I officially started pureed food (however I did cheat just a tiny bit by having TINY amounts Monday and Tuesday). It's exactly two weeks after my surgery, and I'm down about 10 pounds. Oddly enough, I actually have gained back a few pounds since Monday when I had very small amounts of real food. I stepped on the scale and now I'm down 8 pounds. I'm still absolutely thrilled I've been able to shed that amount in two weeks, people are already noticing!! However, I do find it odd a gained a few of those pounds back since I'm burning far more calories than I'm taking in. Has anyone ever experienced this?
  20. Thanks everyone - and congrats to all of us on the banded side. Surgery yesterday, today was good - really good. Soreness relieved with liquid Lortab, no gas pains but took 2 Gas X proactively to make sure. I actually am staying with my daughter this week and spent the majority of the day cleaning her house and doing her laundry! Boy, I hope I don't pay for that tomorrow - lol. I usually tend to do too much too soon. I am not hungry but drinking plenty of liquids - hoping the not hungry feeling lasts a long time. I am so grateful this turned out to be so much better than I had imagined it would be. Stay strong everyone and good luck to us!
  21. My fills usually lasted about 3 or 4 weeks, hence I was getting fills once a month for about 6 months. Then at 9 mos. my fill lasted and lasted so I haven't gotten a fill for the last 3 months. But realize everyone is VERY different. This has just been my experience.
  22. I am six days post-op. This week has been a struggle both with getting all of my liquids in and managing my pain/discomfort. Today was the first day I felt fairly normal and almost no pain--and I have even felt comfortable enough to try chicken soups and things like that with no issues of ANY kind. I am 19, 5'4", and my weight was 211lbs on the day of surgery (highest recorded weight was 225). I have not weighed myself yet since the operation as I only want to do so weekly. However, perhaps the second day after my surgery, I woke up in the morning and went to brush my teeth like always. When I looked at my face in the mirror, I could have sworn my jawline and collarbones were more pronounced. But I kind of thought I was just seeing what I wanted to see and would wait a week to weigh in before confirming anything. Tonight (six days out) however, I was just doing the same thing at the bathroom sink before bed and there is no denying it. In less than a week I am looking better and healthier than I have in years. I have long since gotten over any self-esteem or body image issues I had when I was growing up, but nonetheless it is overwhelmingly satisfying to see my sleeve work its magic literally before my eyes. I have a ways to go (my goal weight is 140) but I feel like this day is a defining turning point. Just wanted to share my excitement as well as get any advice you guys want to offer about the next few months (nutrition, exercise, anything) or just hear other people's stories.

2 Week Post Op Visit Today

Thank you everyone. I just love this forum! Everyone if so supportive. I also think I an out of my stall. I was down 2 more pounds this morning! I wish you all great success on this journey!
  25. Yes, you can stall in the later months too. I'm 9 months out, and I've lost only 9 pounds since February. That is about 3 pounds a month, and it seems that those 3 pounds happen within two days and the rest of the month -- nothing. I am exercising and eating right and drinking right. I can feel the muscles forming, and I can see definition in places I've never had definition before. I think the stall is because my body is transitioning. I know I was really worried that I wouldn't show a weight loss with my doctor, and I was pleasantly surprised to learn it was a 9 pound weight loss. My doctor said that it is normal to lose slower as I get closer to goal. He also mentioned that my body may change and go down in size without actually going down in weight (he's right). The good news is that I haven't stopped losing. When I haven't lost pounds, I have lost inches. I've also noticed that even when my measurements don't necessarily change, the way clothes fit me does. Something is going on as a result of all my hard work even if it isn't showing up on the scale.
