I had mine exactly a week ago. And I was not scared or nervous but then again I am also a registered nurse. My family was scared and nervous but I was like, yes please go ahead surgeon cause I can't wait. But everyone is different and I can understand your fear and being anxious but I promise you that you will be fine and will say the same I am glad I did this. So be brave, pray and you will do just fine, I promise. I will keep you and all the pals here who are going through this process in my prays. God bless.

tmg333- I started this thread and was banded only one week before you. I was really worried about how hungry I was but after a little over a week on solids the hunger has gotten better. I actually called my doc today and asked about moving up my first fill (not scheduled until 1/26) but he said no. He evidently doesn't like to do the 1st fill until around 6 weeks after surgery. So anyway, hang in there, it does get better.

Everyone heals at their own pace, but certainly by a week out you should see substantial healing of all the incisions. No muscles were cut in your surgery, but everything in your abdomen was a bit traumatized and it will take a few days to recover. I've heard lots of people say the third day out is the worst. Hang in there, you're almost around the corner!!

lap bander wants gastric bypass ins. pay?
brandyII replied to brandyII's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Favorite, first three months they didn't really fill it at all because they thought that it was a small band and I had the large and so being my only experience it was a bit confusing to me. Then I got a fill from the surgeon and it seemed fairly tight and I got to know what it was like to eat the Protein and vomit if it wasn't chewed enough or if I didn't eat slow enough. Then went back for another fill because I was still gaining weight and then two weeks later got another fill and was mistaken given more than they had thought and was vomiting my own saliva for 10 hours until I met a surgeon on call to get two cc's removed. Now I'm at 4 ccs and can feel full and will walk on the treadmill but am still not losing weight and it's been 8 months and I don't know how many more adjustments I need or months I need to wait to get it right. I may never get it right but I still haven't given up completely yet but would still like to know my options, thanks brandyII. -
any hear with shoulder pain way after surgery?
peony replied to gdf18's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, I had terrible shoulder pain. I noticed it in the recovery room and told my Dr. about it. We waited it out for several weeks. She did some testing and discovered that the tubing was pushing the against a nerve in my diaphragm. She went back in and attached it with a few stitches. I have not had the problem since. -
Re: not losing weight--you may be hitting your 3-5 week stall. A lot of us were told to use an acid reducer from day one, regardless of whether we had symptoms. I use Zegerid OTC. Anything with Omeprazole in it will work (Prilosec, Nexium). Take it first thing in the morning and don't eat for an hour afterwards. If you are having acid problems, that should help. I would call the doc, though, just in case there is something else going on. Not being able to drink is not good. Are you eating ok?

Bs (Before Surgery) Love The Term & Unhealthy Foods
mnbsleeve replied to bellabbr's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You know, for me it was definitely quantity. I never really liked "junk food" though certainly high caloric food. But even when I was making healthy choices, I ate for three!!!! LOL Especially at my age. I was eating as much as my teen aged son!!! Also, I tended to skip meals alot --i.e., not eat all day -- then really eat a lot, very, very fast at night, often a few hours before bedtime. This surgery has really forced me to change all that. I have to eat throughout the day. And because it's not much, I seem to be able to just have those few bites I need to fuel my body. One thing I do notice though is the amount of food people eat!!! It blows my mind!!! and of course, I am so very clear that I was one of those people!!! :-) But it's just weird now to really see the quantities!!! LOL -

dear.amanda posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I'm documenting my weight loss journey on Instagram @dear.amanda. Im a veteran, mother, wife and student. Early this year I decided I wanted to live life. I didn't wanna be held back because of my weight. I have struggled the last three years with my weight. I don't wanna be another statistic. Also I wanna find a few buddies who are going to be having surgery around the same time as me. May 16th ... T-minus 8 more days Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
I mentioned to TerriDoodle in her thread....Dr. Heller comes to talk to Spivak's group. He was there last Tuesday but I couldn't make it. I think he'll be there in October some time. Wanda at Spivak's office just had some fairly extensive work done I think last week. He's one I am going to check out. We have a guy here in Clear Lake named Dr. Todd Adam I have heard good things about. There's also that guy on the TV show Big Medicine who does the post-bariatric surgery PS clean-up that they show. Not sure where his office is in town.

I am so excited! They called me after submitting my papers on Thursday for my insurance and I have a date to see the surgeon on April 18. I am hoping that this means that day I will get my two week diet to then have my surgery. Is that the procedure? Or will it be more waiting? Either way I am truly excited cause its finally becoming a reality, I have been on this journey since September and hopefully May will be my last day being FAT!

How many calories, carbs etc. do you eat a day??
chubbynurse replied to chubbynurse's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
'Gettinready' I was wondering the same thing! How are you guys managing to get so much protein in? I was struggling to get the fluids and protein in during the 2nd week. I'm in the 3rd week now and it's much easier (I guess the swelling went down and I have more room). I'm gonna work on building up to 100 g of protein. On Wednesday, I start stage 4 and was trying to get an idea about how much to eat. Mr. doctor's office is pretty conservative. Btw, BetsyB...phenomenal results! I hope to be where you are some day... Thanks, this definitely helps! -
I have to agree the wait is the worst, I'm another self pay but have been waiting since August - only three more days to go

How many calories, carbs etc. do you eat a day??
blksuperwoman40 replied to chubbynurse's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Slowmover, If you have been going to the gym 5 'x a week, I wouldnt cut back calories, I would add more. Your body need the extra calories when being activie, otherwise your matabolism slows down. Thats why you are not losing. trust me, I was in the same situation.. I uped my calries and the inches and pounds started melting away. Just a suggestion. -
High Blood Pressure and temperature shortly after Gastric Sleeve surgery?
2goldengirl replied to xochtlem's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
A low-grade temp for a day or so is most likely the body's inflammatory response to the trauma of surgery. As for your blood pressure, I had the opposite experience. I've been on two different blood pressure medications for several years. Since my surgery a week ago, I've been checking and it's consistently stayed low enough that I haven't restarted either of those medications yet. Wierd, but I'll take it! -
Hey! I got banded last tues... (11/10/09) I did good on the next day. But then yesterday I felt awful! nauseous, & stuck. This morning I felt a bit better, but then when I started to drink down the liquids, I started to feel the same way as I did yesterday- stuck. Felt like there was no air in my stomach, it made me nauseous & dizzy! I called my nurse, she kept saying keep drinking - you need 64 oz of liquids a day... I cant keep drinking if I feel like throwing up did you go through this in ur first week? what do you suggest? thanks!

How has Lap Band changed your life?
paula replied to shell4me's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Gosh, what a loaded question! Just like Donna said - I wasnt living life to the fullest when I was heavy. I go to water-parks without being freaked out that "people are looking at me". I dont even notice that stuff anymore. Or the "am I the biggst one here?" question we all wonder when we are MO. Its given me a completely different mindset of when I was MO. I now have the confidence to look people in the eyes and begin a converstaion INSTEAD of waiting for people to speak to ME first. Perfect example: About 2 weeks ago I saw a guy I graduated with... 18 years ago (wow!) Im now about 10 pounds lighter then I was back then. He and I stood and talked for the longest about where weve been for 18 years - and I never felt embarrassed or uncomfortable conversing with him. And I could tell that he was equally interested and excited in visiting with me. That was neat. If I hadnt lost 70ish pounds with my band, I wouldnt have felt comfortable enough to talk to him. I wouldve either avoided him or just made small talk and moved on. Anyway, there's a whole lot of great personality changes that happen when you lose a big amount of weight. Its actually every aspect of your life that changes... not just personality, but clothing styles change, sex life changes, the way other people interact with you. Its awesome. Honestly! -
Vomitting after eating
honeyg317 replied to honeyg317's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks everyone for your thoughts and suggestions. Had my 2 week post op and saw the dietician. They think I'm doing well, but that my sleeve is very sensitive and I need to baby it. So my dietician and I came up with a plan that I am pleased with. I feel better today as well. Plus I'm down a total of 18 pounds since surgery! 30 including post op diet! -
10 Month Post Op Gastric Sleeve Plication Surgery
lap_of_luxury replied to Lmom1980's topic in Gastric Plication Surgery Forum
Is it possible that your sutures came undone? My doctor told me that if I feel little to no restriction, that is most likely the cause. Aslo, drinking while eating can stretch the stomach and reduce the restriction. Like you, I am terrified that I will fail and will have wasted a lot of precious money! I am one week post right now and feeling great with a 9.5 pound loss in the first week. Thanks for your stroy. -
What about pale coloring? I lost my healthy look!
LeeRN replied to VDB's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Great! I was very anemic pre-op. My hemoglobin was only 8.9 (no wonder I was exhausted all the time!) and my ferritin was low indicating iron-deficiency anemia. I was worrying that I wouldn't get it high enough to have surgery by my scheduled date but I did it! Just squeaked by at 10.6. I saw my hematologist just last week and I thought for sure I would be anemic because there are days I forgot my iron supplement but alas I was 11.1..whew! Good luck and I hope you get the answer to why you're a bit pale. -
Scales are very dangerous and can really demotivate, my suggestion is take pictures once a month, front, side and back, you won't believe the difference your eyes see. On another note, on TV this morning they said that Thursday is the best day in the week to weigh and Monday is the worst due to possible bad eating over the weekend. Makes sense I guess

lorena st replied to oliversmomma's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was off work for two weeks (one extra week, because of complications) and it was 1 month before I felt "normal" again. It's now 5 weeks since surgery and I feel great...just not very hungry. Good luck with your surgery. -
How Long Were You Off Work After Lap Band Surgery?
almostthere11 replied to oliversmomma's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was off work one week and the day I went back holy cow I was exhausted by noon and i have a desk job. If you can take an extra week off I would recommend it your body is trying to adjust and from not eating a whole lot of food you do get exhausted easily. I'm three weeks post op and I just went back to the gym last night and I could only walk 1 mile on the treadmill so give yourself some time if you can. -

I have an office job also, and my doctor is still telling me 4-6 weeks, but I may be able to go back after 2 wks if I feel ok. I don't understand why a such big discrepancy in the time off.
