Slow Fills? Normal? When you actually start losing weight?
LPSteven replied to Dukeuni's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ideally , you want to have less per every visit. Sounds crazy when you know you can handle more CC. Really, take the time and have the body get use to the adjustment and yourself with daily eating. I was banded 6 years ago and took 16 weeks to get myself adjusted to "Perfection" . I also had to have some Fluid removed when I started a job that required me to eat more Protein (outside construction work) , yet I have gotten back in the office and did have another adjustment to scale down the amount of food I have per meal. Remember , ideally 4-6 Oz of the right food. Should be good for you. -
Slow Fills? Normal? When you actually start losing weight?

I had 3 ccs at one month, another 3 around 3 weeks after that and went in today (3 weeks from last one) and got 1.5. I tried broth this evening and have thrown up twice and am sitting here with tears running down my cheeks because I think I have to puke again. I have been steadily losing, not too hungry, but have not felt a ton of restriction... Before now. I'm hoping this means green zone. LOL -
I belong to Kaiser and have no problems seeing the bariatric dietician or a nutritionist..In order to get services you need to be the squeaky wheel.....Yep, call them back and tell them that it's urgent you see the nut.....you might not get an appt today, but they can offer something this week or the next week. Let me know what happens when they call you back. If that doesn't work, then go to see your PCP and he/she will get you in.... Keep trying....

I need to get back on track....I need support!
kassy07 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded in december, I initially lost 56 pounds all together during this process. I get such small fills each time I see a dr. I only get a .3 fill, I'm getting one tomorrow. I'm only up to 3 cc's in my 10 cc band. I feel frustrated that the process is so slow, I feel almost no restriction except in the morning. By the end of the day I cant seem to feel satisfied unless I overeat. I have been exercising more than ever, Im walking a 2mile trail 3 times a week. I am hungry all the time. I know that part of it is that I havn't been as good with dieting. But the Protein shakes do not fill me up and I am hungry right after drinking one. I have depression and it gets so bad sometimes that I break down and eat the things that are easy like ice cream or chips. I KNOW I SHOULDNT EAT THEM! I cant seem to stop myself. I end up hating myself and lose the motivation even more after I cheat because I feel like "whats the point?" What are your suggestions? is there like a support group I can go to? Am i the only one who feels like I am failing? The worse part is the feeling when I have gone into the Dr's the last 2 times and have not lost weight and I feel like shit- 5 replies

I feel ya sister. I have gone back to eating foods that are pre-labeled with calorie counts on them. Yogurt, healthy choice, sugar free pudding and jellos, yogurt, I make a vegetable Soup that I eat for lunch. All fresh veggies with Taco mix seasoning. It is so hard I have stalled with my weight loss but don't really know if I need another fill. I go tomorrow for an appointment lets see what the Doc has to say. Good luck to you. -
I got the same recommendation from my nutritionist.... I also bought the Celebrate chewable from their office, and take calcium three times a day. I tried some of the calcium chews, but found a liquid that I like better. As for constipation, I've also found MiraLax to be the best and most gentle.

I had this pain too. It stopped around the beginning of week 3, but still flares up if I push myself too hard walking or something. You'll feel better soon =)
-
That happened to me as well. I was wondering when it would stop. And I even posted the question here. But for me it all stopped at 3 1/2 weeks. I started to forget about it at week 3 then I'd move wrong But it totally went away at 3 1/2. Good luck.

Not a problem. I was outside working on my boat trailer I was in pain but I'm too hardheaded to ask for help. Im 7 weeks out now and fully realesed. Now kiteboarding and running and lifting weights. It gets so much better. Don't sweat it.

Not only are you losing at an impressive rate (1.5 pounds a week, as Leigha pointed out), but you've lost **35%** of your excess body weight. WOW! You should be proud, proud, proud! My surgeon wants a lower percent than that gone in ONE YEAR. Remember that where you are is better than where you were 35 pounds ago. Don't give up! Go find someone who hasn't seen you in six months, and you'll perk up in NO TIME!

Third time since November ... I am not sure how many more bumps in the road I can take . November 14th was surgery, five days later was diagnosed with a pulmonary embolism and was back in the hospital for three more days... And now I am back since yesterday afternoon when I was rushed to the ER from work. I am hopefully having my gallbladder taken out in the morning but will have to wait on my blood work to come back because I am on blood thinners they can not do it right away. I will say though that I am in good hands with the Mercy team and Dr. Roller just sucks that I have to do it! Prayers would greatly be accepted ... I'm a bit nervous :/. Thank u all for being great supporters

I was banded July 2014. I had steady weight loss and lost 45 lbs the first year. Since last year my weight has went yp and down 20 lbs. I journal, exercise, watch my carbs, had a fill 2 months ago. No complications. I eat at least 60g of solid protein. I have changed my workouts to a little more intense. I am frustrated because this was the last resort for me. I could use any advice for those who have stalled in their weight loss journey. Sent from my VS985 4G using the BariatricPal App

Encouragement needed + How many oz per sitting week after RNY?
Alphabetize posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi everybody. Looking for some input and would really appreciate your help. I just had RNY on 4/25, so I'm 4 days post-op. Every day has been better than the day before but geeeeez the gas pain is worse than anything I've experienced with any surgery I've had before. I'm up walking every hour, stretching and getting massages from my husband, but the bubbles are stuck in my shoulders and under my ribs. Horrible, stabbing pain! I've been trying so hard to get the recommended Protein and liquids in, but it feels like a full-time job. My stomach feels like it's going to burst its so full when I've only had 2oz of Protein Drink. I'm trying to get 2oz/hour in, plus a SF Popsicle every few hours, but I can't imagine drinking much more. It's such an uncomfortable feeling all day every day, and then taking meds? Feels like they're huge and scrape all the way down. I'm a rule follower by nature and I'd like to follow the post-op rules, but is it the gas pain causing this horrible overly-restrictive feeling?? How much have 1-week-out RNY people here been able to drink? Please tell me drinking will become easier soon. Also, have felt so remorseful this week but am slowly coming out of that fog... just mostly scared to face this new reality. I'm 18lbs down since 4/11 (when I started pre-op diet), but need hope this super tight feeling will go away so I don't get dehydrated. Thanks everybody. ❤️ -
I shed loads of hair too, our ensuite is disgusting. Long brown hairs hanging off the light fitting, clogging the shower drains, all over the basin etc. That's totally normal for me though, I've always been this way, there's been no increase since banding. Period problems are not at all unusual when you either take up vigorous exercise or lose a lot of weight. It will sort itself out in the end for you. I've been on a long plateau now, about 4 weeks, I've lost a bit more but I think I need to face the fact that I cannot remain able to eat bread, red meat etc and still have enough restriction to keep me losing, sigh. Its about perfect right now, my intake is regular, under control but I have variety and can enjoy going out. I'm going to have a tiny tiny fill today. What's struck me as odd is that I've lost like ONE kilogram for the entire month of March yet a pair of shorts I put on five weeks ago which were tightish (I had to breath in very deeply before I sat down so the velcro fly didnt rip open) literally fell to the ground when I put them on yesterday - that's ONE kilogram difference in weight. I know people say you can be losing inches when you're not losing weight but that many? It was werid. I cant stop touching myself, lol. I feel all bony!

Unfilled Band 1 Year Later Is Now To Tight
blpchick replied to t.redfield's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Yeah maybe a gallbladder attack. I'm currently dealing with that. I had a gallbladder attack on Monday and it has made my stomach swell. I only have .5cc in my band and at some times this week it was hard for even liquid to go through. I am getting my gallbladder out in about a week. -
Finally the day I have been waiting for since beginning this whole process in October is less than 24 hours away! I have a whole rush of emotions... nervous, anxious, excited, terrified.. I hope this is all normal. I will be in the hospital until Wednesday, possibly Thursday but I should be out by Wednesday. Good luck to everyone having surgery this week. We are all going to kick some butt!! I just keep reminding myself of how awesome it's going to be a year from now. Here we go!

I am slightly annoyed to see that I paid £6250 under a special offer, and that the same company is now advertising the gastric band at £5950. If I had just waited a couple of weeks, I would have saved £300.

Slow Fills? Normal? When you actually start losing weight?
Dukeuni posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Had my surgery on 12/29/2014. My first fill occured on 1/20/2015. After reading some posts, I thought that they had already partially filled my band when it was put in. Yesterday the doctor said they only filled to have it snug against the stomach, but they did not actually consider that a "fill". They filled me with "1 CC" of Fluid. I was told that each visit would add 1 CC until I got to "4", then it would only be increased at .25 CC. I can only come in for fills ever 3-4 weeks. Question: Is this normal? Just 1 CC fills at a time? It seems that the weight loss would not really occur until I get to the green zone, and at that pace it would be months before I hit that point! Thanks for everyone's help! I live in a rural area (3 hours away from my doctor), there is no support groups near me, so I rely upon this site for my help. Thanks again!!! -
My Weight Loss, So Far, During 5th Week After Gastric Sleeve Surgery
Lisa821 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is how my wt has dropped this week. Down 1 pound on Sat, Sun and Mon. Total -3lbs. 0 on Sun. Up 1 pound Tues, but got my monthly "visitor" as well. 0 on Wed. Then down one on Thurs and Fri. Wow! Big change since that 3rd wk stall! A net loss of 4 in a wk!! I'm really happy with that. I said it before and I'll say it again, "it DOES keep getting better, just like they said it would"! Hang in there everyone who is frustrated in their first few weeks postop. I was in your shoes. I didn't believe them when they said that. But its true!! I promise. Big hugs -
My Weight Loss, So Far, During 5th Week After Gastric Sleeve Surgery
tlong replied to Lisa821's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Great post! I am in my 4th week postop and it has gotten better in the last week. The first 3 weeks were not what I expected at all!! I have chosen to ONLY weigh when I go to the doctor each month. I might cheat and weigh 2-3 times within that month but I don't want my scales to determine if I pass or fail that day. Weight is only a set of numbers. Once you've had this surgery there is no way to gain weight each day. Obviously, we have chosen to permanently change our diet and the amount of what we eat. For many years I let the scales tell me if I failed each day. Never again!! -

Are you seeing a therapist? I highly recommend it if you aren't. Eating raw oysters less than 2 weeks out is dangerous and I would think that choice alone verges on self-harm. I had to have several months of sessions with my therapist to learn to deal with self-sabotaging behavior. -
Hi ladies I am 3 months out I've lost a total of 36 pounds. I wish I could make myself work out 5 days a week

I am still at the soft food stage. I had turkey (dark meat because it is more tender) mashed potatoes and some dressing. I ate very little and had no issues. I did feel very tired afterwards. It is the most carbs I have had in 5 weeks so I am sure my body was like "what the hell". All in total I ate about 3/4 of a cup of food. I did have a small piece (3 bites) of sugar free chocolate pie. I mainly just ate the pudding without the crust. The day was fine for me- at 5 weeks out my mindset has DRASTICALLY changed about food. It's unbelievable. Whenever I got it in my head that I wanted more I just reminded myself that I was 30 pounds down today and it just wasn't worth it. At this stage in the game I know when I am hungry and when my head is hungry 😋

Let me start off by I'm 31 and I was sleeved on 10/20. My preop diet weight was 225, day of surgery 217 and 8 days out I'm already at 208. I got the sleeve after being over 220lbs for the last 12 years. After countless diets, meal plans, workout regimen, you name it I tried it and did and and failed it. VSG was suggested to me after it was discovered I had extremely fatty liver while testing was being done on my gallbladder. My liver was so advanced that it was projected within the next 5 years I could very well be in liver failure. VSG was the safest and most effective way to help reverse this disease. Having two small children this isn't the future I saw for myself or my family. I have to admit I've been stepping on the scale everyday to track. And it isn't without guilt that I see a lower number everyday. I feel like it isn't fair that I was blessed with this gift by "default" because I had other medical issues going on. My husband is extremely supportive and doesn't want me to feel guilt he wants me to remember of how this could have gone the complete opposite direction. I've been emotional because I've identified as an over weight woman my entire adult life. It's who I am. Or who I was. I've learned to not be confident because I was always put down. The idea that in the next year I can easily be 150 or less is not something I can comprehend. AT ALL. The thought of not being a size 18/20 is insane to me. How to you mentally adjust to this? I intend on asking my surgeon for advice at my 3 week follow up if I am still feeling this way. I have been told by friends it does get better. But I've also been told by a friend 2 years post op that she still has a hard time believing this is the new her... Advice or words of encouragement would be greatly appreciated.
