When can i start working out?

Walking would be as far as I'd push it right now. If you're bored, and have a treadmill, maybe walking at an incline, etc, but as far as jogging and weight lifting goes, I'd wait a few more weeks when you're more recovered and back together. I started my weight lifting (lightly) recently being 4 weeks post op. My Dr. told me 6 weeks, but at my check up they said if I felt comfortable, I could start slow and work my way up as tolerated. I started light jogging at 3.5 weeks on a treadmill that has impact protection and I focused on not jarring anything around.

    Fourth Fill and Counting

I went in for my 4th fill last week, but I'm apparently losing "too well", and they asked me to take at least a week and log my food intake, try for protein from a meat at every meal, and evaluate when I'm hungry by logging the times of day I'm hungry, and try to make changes. I hadnt realized it, because I've been messing with the same 2 lbs for the last 3 weeks, but I've lost 24 lbs in 2 months, and they prefer 7 lbs per month. So if you're not feeling restricted, etc, I'd recommend what they asked me to do. They will give me a fill, they just want me try this first, and you know, I've already realized I'm not always using real hunger as indictator, but head hunger instead. I'm actually going to put off my fill for more then they asked me to, as I really dont want to be overfilled if I can do this as the fill point I'm at. Tina
  3. I got an email today saying congratulations you are 3 years post banding and that really hit home becasue 3 years have passed and I have not lost a single pound of weight since I had my band operation in 2008. I have had 8+ fills and should have 9mls in an 10 ml band but last time I went back to see the fil surgeon he said I only had 5 mls in place. The very first fill I had caused some discomfort when he expirated the band and he said 'oh thats interesting that usually only happens if there is a leak in the band, I will check next time to make sure'. Next time came and there was still the same amount of Fluid in the band so he dismissed the idea of a leak. I then went back every 3 months paying £90 each time to be told at the last consultation there was only 5 mls, the same amount that I had after 1 year post op. My partner is very unhappy says it was a complete waste of money and will not allow me to go back and see the surgeon so now I am stuck (literally) with a faulty band and still about 5 stone overweight. I thought i could really change my life I don't mean to upset anyone I really hope everyone else has a much better expereince than I have and succeeds where I clearly have failed. Love annika
  4. Im 3 weeks out and on pureed food, how many oz of protein should I be eating 2 or 4 oz?
  5. I was banded at Dolan Park in September, my surgeon was Mr Siggurdson. I too had the WGA package and can't fault the service I received, I still ring them now if I have any concerns and they always give advice. I can recommend Wendy from Weight Loss Surgery group for fills, they are £85 and they have clinics all over the country, and she is fantastic!!! I've just had my 3rd fill last week, I now have 5.5ml in a 10ml band and I can sooooooooo tell a difference!! Good Luck with the op, and welcome to the losing side x
  6. Hello all, I was banded 9/15/09. To keep a potentially long post short and to the point - Things were great at first. I was motivated, losing weight, following protocol. I lost about 50 pounds or so in the first 4-5 months. Fast forward to now - Weight loss has completely stopped at roughly 65 pounds. I work out like a fiend, I'm active in martial arts, and my band is filled pretty much to it's max (at least it was). I feel like I can eat almost as much as before my surgery now. All day long I think about how I want to rip this thing out of me because it does nothing but make me feel weird on occasion, and once or twice a week I need to puke something up because it's stuck. I am worried to death that my pouch is all stretched out or something. Sometimes, I still get full quickly (especially when I follow the rule and do not drink while I eat). Other times, I can eat just as much as everyone else around me and I get concerned. All in all, any success I have now I feel like it should be credited towards my exercise, not the lap band. I lost my health insurance about a year ago and stopped going in for checkups. I simply can't afford to eat the cost of an upper GI. If I were still able to be full after a tiny portion of food I would roll with the lap band thing, feeling like I made the right decision getting it done. I suppose what I am concerned about is the fact that I feel like I can eat too much. Since I can't go get it checked on I came here for some words of wisdom and/or support. Does anyone else feel like something is wrong when they can eat too much, so long after their surgery with a supremely tight fill? Or, should i walk around feeling like my pouch is stretched?
  7. Has anyone experienced this? Several times a day I get this random hiccup. Never more than one, just one out of the blue. I'm a little worried about going back to work next week because they are so sudden and loud- not exactly good office etiquette....
  8. My doctors office is pushing the Bariatric Advantage products for my 2 week pre op diet ..do you have any recommended websites I could view for alternative? Those products are so expensive. I'm thinking I can do ketogenic (sp) without those specific products. Sent from my SM-G900P using the BariatricPal App

    snacks or no snacks

As a rule, we should not snack between meals. But we are all human and every once in while we do need a little snack. Of course you have to keep your senses about you and make sure you do not go crazy with it. Make sure it is a band-friendly choice. And keep these indulgences to a minimum...say two or three times a week. I keep sugar free popsicles and fudgsicles for sweet Snacks but mostly go for South Beach Protein bars because it gives me my goody fix and I get a little extra protein (they come in Peanut Butter, chocolate and cinnamon raisin). But I have never eaten a full bar at one time. I break off half a bar and tell myself if I want the rest later, I can have it. The half bar always does the trick though. I have had a couple (Two) crackers with cheese when I really "needed" a salty carb. In addition to my three meals per day, I also have a mid-morning Protein shake. I don't consider that snacking though, it is to me, a protein supplement AND because I have an early start to my day, I have breakfast at 6:00 AM and lunch at 12:30PM so the shake helps to keep me from getting too hungry before lunch.

    Hair Loss........omg!

My surgery was 3/29/07 and I have not had hair loss, yet!!! In fact it is in better shape that it has been in years. But I was told that was one of the reasons I needed to be on a pre-natal vitamin. Maybe that is the answer....anyway if I lose some of my hair it is worth it to me to get the weight off.

    Low carb/low fat - Sugar/sweetener

I just eat what I want in smaller portions. I dont count anything, calories, Protein etc, and I dont really believe a high protein, low carb diet is particularly healthy. As far as sugar goes, I gave it up in tea and coffee when I was about 16 and it was easy. It takes 2 weeks tops, and you get used the non sugared taste. But I woudnt hesitate to just use a bit of real sugar in moderation. I think there's some people, particularly PCOS sufferers who seem to do loads better by really cutting out carbs. In which case its sensible to do so, but for a lot of people, it just isnt necessary and they certainly dont tell you to do it in Australia, it really is an American thing.
  13. target is having a sale on the generic spanx (made by the same company though) 10$ a pair!!! i plan to go get a few pairs i found that when i wear them bc my legs arent reshaping well that they take off about 3 extra inches when wearing them!!!! give them a shot cant hurt huh!!! they are called assets Assets : Shapewear : Intimates : Clothing : Women : Target
  14. Ana, one thing to watch out for and you might ask your surgeon about, for the first 2 weeks, I was restricted to not lifting anything over 10 pounds to avoid developing an incisional hernia. YMMV, so be sure to ask the doctor. Good luck, it will be a great thing once you get it done!

Need Band Mentor or Buddy in Clearwater, FL

Hi Barbara, I know how tough it is before the mushie stage. I was fine the first week, Clear Liquids, but by the end of the first week, I couldn't wait until full liquids. Then after a couple of weeks on full liquids and I was happy until towards the end where I would have killed for cottage cheese and I don't even like cottage cheese! It will get better with the mushie stage! I am 2 months post op today. There are still some challenges, but it is getting easier. I live in Fort Lauderdale now, but I am moving with my job for a year at least on July 2. I will be working in St. Pete and living in Largo. I'll be real close by if you want to meet next month. I am 53 years old, married and have a 24 y/o son living with me. While I am in St. Pete, I will be doing the long distance marriage thing because my husband can't transfer right now and I really need to work one more year at my company to make my 20 years. They are closing my office and centralizing in St. Pete. Hang in there, things will get better. Alice Banded April 8, 2008 271/245.5/150
  16. Well folks, we made it:thumbup:. Who would have thought 3 months ago that we would have made it to where we are today? I hope everyone is doing great and is happy with their progress so far. I couldn’t be happier:biggrin:. I am on my second fill and am down over 60 pounds (BMI is now under 30). I’m not done, but I definitely see a light at the end of the tunnel. I am fitting into clothes I haven’t worn in years, people are really noticing the weight loss, and unlike any diet in the past I feel satisfied (from a hunger perspective) most of the time. I feel like I am really starting to know how to interact with the band inside me. How are you doing?

    Labor Day

Labor day was the 2nd event since reaching my goal. The first event was supposed to be my 50th birthday and associated party, but it turned into traveling and attending a funeral. Still both cases were a long weekend away from home that usually involved eating. In each event I gained 3 pounds, but got them back off and back to my goal weight in 3-4 days. I still weigh myself daily at home, but I've found the scales at my family's houses to show me weighing 3-6 pounds less than what I know I weigh, so its hard to monitor away from home. I think the hardest thing was getting in the same amount of water I normally drink at home and work because we were on the run. Still, I'm glad staying around goal is not been too hard.
  18. My main Incision has been bleeding for 6 days now, nonstop!! (I am on my 2 week post of) I have seen my Dr. twice last week and he told me, that it is not that common but it happens sometimes WTH, I could swear I need some stitches but Instead, he gave me some pads and a girdle to hold the pressure! dont see him again till Tuesday, I am just confused and worried I could get an INfection!!!! Has anyone ever experience this problem? thanks
  19. Try taking really teeny sips. I took 15 minutes to get down an ounce the first few days after surgery. Also, my stomach grumbled like a Mac truck was driving through it the first couple of weeks. Prop yourself up with pillows in bed or sit in a comfy recliner and hog the TV. Before you get settled, upt a small container of Water by where you will be resting. Use a clock to watch the time and drink one ounce from a medicine cup or a 3/4 full shot glass every 15 minutes. I'm sitting here almost 5 months out and 60 lbs. down from my pre-op weight. Energy has returned and I can guzzle a cup of water at a time if I'm inclined (which I am when I drink my benefiber- it gets thick quick!). Point is, it is worth it and temporary. Baby yourself - you deserve it!!!! I put on hand lotion and lip gloss every once in while to cheer myself up, but everyone has their own favorite thing. Lynda

    Mexico question

sphyxmomma. You indicated after the band the medical profession is responsible for us and have to treat us. Please go to the canadianlapbanders.com site and read the posting of someone who went to the Ont hospital and sat there for 5 hours. They would do nothing. Then had to go home and try to contact her surgeon for help. Also, a GP is not obligated to help you if you are not their patient. In fact, GPs "fire patients", which shocked me when I saw it on TV a few weeks ago. I am all for people going to Mexico and getting the band. In my view anyway they can get the band the better. But they had better go with all the information they can gather.
  21. I was also banded in February and am down 70lbs! I have had two fills but they really have not helped yet. My third fill is this week and hopefully I will be able to rely on a little more help then just willpower! I went through my closet yesterday and realized I bypassed alot of clothes. I am thrilled that I have passed my half way point and can't wait to get down to my weight. I have not been this low since early 1994 and people are starting to notice. As for missing foods, yes I do miss some favorites but I don't really deisre to eat them anymore. My desire is to lose weight now Good luck to us all

    Diarrhea--HELP?!

This is my first week since surgery and I to am going through this run to the bathroom phase! I am starting on some Carbo conscious protein drink today, very slowly in hopes the diarehha problem starts to let up. I have had some problems keeping the liquids down and constipation the first 4 days, now I am at the phase you are at. I was told it's kind of a cleansing, you bet! I've lost a lot of weight, but I don't want to continue this process. I have gotten some medication for nausea which has helped. Hopefully you are able to keep your electrolites in tact. Call the doctor and ask if this continues on. So sorry, my sympathies are with you. Vickie

    Bruises?

Just wondering how long it took for the bruises from the Lovenox shots to go away? I had 3 shots, one for each day I was in the hospital. These bruises are big and yellow..and ugly. One even has a knot in it. My stomach looks a total mess between these 3 big bruises and my incisions. When will they go away??

    GERD reflux

Hi, thanks for the response. I have emailed my Dr. I saw him last Friday and he didn't suggest anything. I'm was regretting the surgery the first 2 weeks but now I am back there again. It's just awful being so dehydrated and just not getting on top if this.

    Fastest Rate of Weight Loss?

I've definitely had weeks where I've lost a little more and weeks when I've lost less or even gained. I try not to get frustrated with the gains b/c I know I'm doing everything right. I think it's just normal. Our bodies are very complex! I really need a fill right now...fortunately I'm scheduled for one Tuesday!
