    Endoscopy Results

I will hopefully know Tuesday what the 2 Drs have to say.. Please Lord let it be Ok do do surgery. I know my hernia will be repaired and this is big issue with my GERD- I just hope it is NOT too late and I'm damaged on the inside. The Gastro guy only said- gotta wait on radiology... so next week.. trying to stay positive and I'm bit loopy from meds for the candida. so hopefully it will go fast... I'm praying I hope this candida will not stop it either, from what I read the pills should kill it. I will post next Tue to whats happens..
  2. I had great control the first few weeks but have only had one fill and don't have any restirction so my sugars have climbed. I hope to get better control when I get good restriction.

    Post-op diet????

When I do have surgery mine will be 1-2 weeks clear liquids going into more solid colored liquids...3-4 weeks pureed foods 5-6 weeks going into soft solids then finally regular food.
  4. I got the lap band in April of 2011 and was able to lose over 60lbs. Since I got married in August I started to slip with eating habits when I enjoyed myself on my honeymoon. I then started a very stressful internship in the fall with a hospice agency. I have very little time between school, work, internship, and my marriage and find that I stopped planing meals, stopped exercising, and started stress eating. Since my honeymoon I put about 20lbs back on. I am so ashamed of this but I want to put a stop to it before things get even more out of control. I am worried that I have stretched my band and my pouch. Is it possible for your band to stretch if you over eat for a while? If so how is this issue resolved? What happens to the band and the liquid inside it when you over eat? I have started the 5 day pouch test (diet of 2 days liquid and gradually back to solids) to help tighten up my Pouch. I heard this helps WLS patients get back some feeling of restriction. I have also made an appointment to see my surgeon on Monday and hope I can get some help with this. I have also went grocery shopping and made sure to stock up on healthier food to get back on track. I plan to start up with the gym again 1 day a week. I know it's a small start but at least it's something. I started taking B12 because I feel tired all the time so hopefully this will help me get back to exercise. Can anyone answer these questions Or has anyone been in a similar situation?

    looking for buddies

Hey Reyanne, I am 7 weeks post op and doing great. I feel wonderful (really no different than before). I had lapband and plication so my recovery was about 4-5 days rather than 1-3 but doing great. What they tell you about gas and pain in your shoulder is true, but hang in there and know it will go away (heating pad was my best friend). I walk 2-3 miles everyday and just completed my first 5K. I am 59 yrs old and my kids are grown too. I am now down 45 pounds. Feel free to contact me if you want to talk. I am happy with my band, but follow the docs directions (although the liquid diet is a killer) and you will be happy too - not only pain wise but with your weight loss. I have had one fill and have another on on Friday. Good luck with your surgery and stay in touch.... Melinda
  6. I stayed overnight in the hospital. They weighed me in my hospital gown just before surgery. I weighed myself the second I got home and I gained 6 pounds. I asked my surgeon about it and he said it was from the IV fluids. It took me about 2 weeks to lose those 6 pounds. Hang in there, it will come off.
  7. HI I was banded on the 10th sept and the same thing happened to me! Surgery now a week gone and I have lost the weight gained and another half stone (over past 3 days) so dnot be disheartened Maxine

    Crab/Lobster?

How do crab and lobster go down when you are restricted? Just wondering because I am going on vacation next week to a place where there is a lot of that and I am hoping to be able "get it down".! Thanks!

    can you feel the port?

Chickie...thanks! ARe you still eating less than a cup of food per meal as well and 3 meals a day...did any of that change since you were actively loosing weight? I'm not very comfortable right now, so I'm curious as to if I'm destined to feel this way forever. I've been told I'm too tight, but hard to imagine when I can't budge the scales for a couple of months now, but can't eat much of anything solid. Love your pictures! I'm very impressed! My husband runs every day of his life...he's run the Ultra's too. I know all about how it get's in your blood...just not mine:rolleyes2:

    Fill Dr in Houston TX?

My friend's surgeon agreed to do my fills and he's charging less than the fills centers and another dr wanted to charge me for the first visit. I have to pay $150 for each visit/adjustment and the fill center wanted to charge me $350 for the first visit and $160 for every visit/adjustment after that. Bariatric Surgery Treatment | Gastric bypass surgery | Lap Band Surgery Houston, Texas | Sleeve Gastrectomy Texas I got 1 cc and he made me drink a bottle of Water before I left to make sure it wasn't too tight. After about 4 sips I had to go throw that water up and he had to take half my fill back out again so I have only .5 cc's in right now. I was really adamant before I got there that I was gonna push for at least 3 cc's to start with and thought it was pretty funny that 1 cc was too tight LOL I think I've been able to eat so much because I've been drinking with my meals and I thought the only reason why you're not supposed to is because it might be painful BUT he told me today that drinking with meals actually makes the food mushy so it doesn't stay in the little pouch as long and negates the purpose of the band. I'm glad to know that and I'll stop drinking with meals now and hopefully get back to losing weight!

    Hey there November Bandsters!!!

Thinking of all of you that have been banded and will be banded. sending you lots of luck and healing energy. The surgery is the easy part. The first few weeks before fill can be difficult. Lots of gentle hugs, you'll be tender for about a week and remember, walk, walk, walk, walk, the first two days are hard, the next three are a medium level, you will get tired easily and then after that you can do pretty good. Follow your lifting restrictions to the best of your ability. Good luck.

Is 50% all you can lose?

I had mine in October and I've lost 60% and still going. And I'm OLD. I didn't lose for about 3 weeks and then this week I lost 5 pounds. Not everyone is the same, you might lose 120%, lol so don't put too much stock into those articles.
  14. Was banded on the 15th. Doing very good. Per instructions, am on soft foods this week. Saw the doctor today and she was pleased with my progress. Have lost 8 pounds, off of insulin, off of two high blood pressure meds, and off of med for cid reflux. Told her what and how much I was eating (1/2 c. soft foods per meal). She asked how I was doing with that and Hhow I felt, which I was fine with it and not feeling too hungry. She gave me some more material from the lapband comp. It said that one should be eating 2 oz. per meal or you could stretch out the pouch. Am I stretching out my pouch? I am not feeling bad after eating. How much are you all eating post surgery when on soft foods? JuneR,

    Banding in St. Louis

Hi there! I was banded 3/21/08 by Dr. Van Wagner and I also went through the St. Alexius New Start program. If I had to do it over again I would have chosen to do the outpatient surgery instead of staying overnight in the hospital. I was self-pay and Dr. Wagner takes CareCredit--my surgery was about $15,000 and that included a lifetime of band adjustments. I love Dr. Wagner and his office staff. They are very helpful and very responsive to your needs. Dr. Wagner is sort of quiet and reserved but his bedside manners are excellent. It has taken me a little longer than most to get to where I'm at (total of 26 lost now) but I'm okay with that. It just took a little longer for my band to be restricted the perfect amount! If you have more specific questions let me know and I'll try to help ya out! Megan
  16. Klbs: I just started my Kaiser journey toward the lapband. Their process is somewhat lengthy. You PCP usually will have you do all the tests you need prior to getting the referral to the bariatric division. Next you get a card letting you know when your orientation is. I just had mine today in SSF. It is a 3.5 hr class explaining the steps to getting Bypass or banding and what the differences are as well as you new way of eating etc... They stated to expect the whole process to take about a year. In fact they told me not to expect my next apt for another 24 weeks!! Meanwhile I am supposed to lose as much weight as I can. For SSF its not 10% its individually tailored and I wont know what I'm supposed to lose for about 36 weeks.. The speaker said that our start weight will be the one we were referred with and everyone in the room will be expected to lose between 20-50lbs before they will be approved for the surgery. I know there are other threads that go into detail a little more on the Kaiser steps but thats my experience so far.

About 150lbs overweight & Waiting for Approval

BCBS is usually very good about paying for the surgery. The usual wait time, according to my physician's assistant, is up to 4 weeks for them. You may have to have the PA nudge them a little with a call every week. That's what my PA says she does for all her cases. Good luck!

    Dr. Abkin

Dr. Abkin is scheduled to perform my surgey in a few weeks. Has anyone here used him. I really liked him. I went and had my annual with my gynocologist, I told her about the lap-band surgery and she gave me this look, I asked her what was up.. She said that she doesn't believe in weight loss surgery, she said that people should just "diet and exercise". Like I never thought of that.

    Question about losses

I have lost 27 lbs since surgery, most of it in the first 4 weeks. I expect it will slow up, especially since I don't have a lot of restriction. Last time I was on a diet, it took me around 6-8 months to lose the same amount... how can I not be happy with my current result. :whoo::whoo:

    Question about losses

Hi Wendy. I wouldn't put too much stock into what other people say/think about your weight loss. They probably think the surgery is a miracle cure, which you and I know is not the case. I had my surgery November 8, and I've lost 16 pounds - which works out to about 3lbs per week. Everyone will be different, though, so if yours is more or less than that, don't worry about it. Just keep losing, and I know you will! Melanie

    Question about losses

I had my surgery about 3 weeks ago. I have lost 9 lbs since the surgery and a total of 23 since I started. It seems to me that this is pretty good, it's an average of 3 lbs a week since surgery. I went to WW yesterday and had lost 1.2 lbs, which I thought was pretty darn good. When talking to friends, they asked how much I had lost. When I told them, they asked if that was all. I said I was thrilled to death. They felt that I should have lost more. My question is how much have you all been losing since surgery in November?? I figure if I average 2 lbs a week I'll have lost over 100 lbs in a year, so I'm thrilled.

    Hysterectomy

Her Dr is the same as mine and he has never said anything to me about my weight loss and she is losing about the same as I was when I was 3 months out. He defintely knows the difference from the band and the gastric bypass. She has been really upset about him taking out her whole fill. She did get an appt for the 19th at 3:30 to get a fill. I am pretty sure he will do it for her. He has so many patients that he won't remember and I am sure he didn't write it in her chart.

    Hysterectomy

30 pounds in 3 months and the Dr. is upset? Wow! I'm 3 months out and I have lost 33 pounds my Dr. is very pleased with my weight loss. 30 pounds in 3 months is great. Your sister is doing just fine. I was told 1-3 pounds a week and thats exactly what I have been losing.. She is doing something right.

    Starting out

Hey Brandy, Sounds like you got yourself on the right track. You most likely will lose more than 10lbs if you stick to the pre-op liquid diet. I am also 14 days from seeing the surgeon for the last time. (He did all my monthly appts. with me). I do not have a surgery date and I imagine you do not either. My surgeon's office manager will submit my paperwork again after my next appt. The office submitted everything at 3 months just to see if they would take it. Denied on the basis that I needed to do the next 3 months. I was a little disappointed at first (for about 30 seconds) and just got over it. Not a big deal. I am 46lbs down from the start and feel 10x better. I would do this all over again and am hoping that this all makes a difference after the band. Good luck with your approval, Brandy.
