    I'm starving

I'm 4 weeks post-op and I'm ALWAYS hungry. Any suggestions? Is this normal?
  2. I went to Trader Joe's before surgery to stock up on post-op foods. I bought this soup that is tomato and roasted red pepper, it is a pureed soup and has the best flavor. I am going to make turkey meatballs next week and use this instead of sauce. I also bought the squash soup, that is lunch toorrow. I will let you know what I think about that flavor too~Mandy

    I am now a "bandit" !!!!

Yay you! You sound like you are doing great. I was SUCH a weenie I felt puny for about a week so that you're feeling so bright just a few days out? Well, I bow to you!! Congrats on your band!!!

    Post Fill Diet

Thank you - I've also spoken to a fellow bandster in the UK and her reply was "sod that"!! SO I've decided to go onto mushies tonight until Friday, then back to normal. I know you should follow your Doctors instructions but I'm worried that I'm going to put on weight on as I'm having loads of liquids to fill me up. I've lost 22 pounds in eight weeks and do not intend to put any back on!! Thanks for your help. Jen

    Surgeon shopping

I met with Dr. Taylor at ABMI (formally at CORI) last week. He works with Dr. Wood in Madison Heights. He seemed nice enough, but I have not been impressed with the response of the office to my calls. Also- the forms were outdated (e.g. had me sign consent form that said I agreed to have lap band when they only use the Realize band). I actually live near Toledo and will be meeting with Dr. Pop... at Barix in Ypsilanti tomorrow. I have not checked into Henry Ford. I used to work there and don't want my former coworkers to be able to see my records. Ypsilanti is closer and the office has been wonderful-- but they do not use the Realize band- lap band only. I had been told the Realize band was better but I didn't see the new AP band. So my comparison was only the Realize versus the old band at Taylor's office. Any suggestions- anyone go through Barix?

    Back to work?

I am a housekeeper and I took one week off. It was still a little hard to bend over that second week but it did me good getting out and seeing friendly faces and moving around. I got bored lazing around the house. Teresa Dr. Lopez 5/8/04 362/313/??? No fills.
  7. That happened to me after 3 years and it was caused by dehydration, stress, and over exertion during a long jog on a hot day.

Booked my First Consult.. now not sure

I think we all go through this at some point. I left my orientation certain I would be doing lap band (less invasive, reversable, etc.). Low and behold, after meeting with the nurse (who had had RNY), I had done a complete 180 and was now going to go RNY (without a second thought about LB). I then started my nutrition classes and went...whoa...what the heck am I thinking? Surgery? Surely I must be able to do this on my own. I'm on the low end with a BMI of 42 (can there really be a low end to morbid obesity?), and I really started second-guessing myself. So I decided to give it two weeks and really bear down. I have been keeping a food diary, exercising moderately (30 min) 4-5 days a week, avoiding drinking with meals, chewing slowly, cutting out sweets, etc. Heck, I even passed up a cupcake at a birthday party (totally out of character for me, I might add). I really feel like I've worked hard at giving it another shot. And in the end, I'd only lost 3 pounds, probably just Water weight...and that feeling of dread, failure, and hopelessness came flooding back. It was then that I realized that the odds of me actually losing a significant amount of weight on my own were slim to none. For whatever reason, I just don't have that fight in me any more. At 41, I've been overweight for 33 years now and I truly believe my many years of dieting have made it practically impossible for me to lose the weight on my own. I need a tool desperately. Now, with that all being said, you will read over and over about how the decision is a personal one. No one can make it for you and no one can make you comfortable with it. For me, I know in my heart that I will work the tool and I WILL ROCK IT! This is my last shot at being thin and I will do everything in my power to use it to get to my goal. Though not banded (yes, I'm back to LB now) yet, I think that as someone going through the process, I would encourage you to read, read, read, read and then read some more. Don't let the negative posts fool you, there are so many wonderful people here who have had fabulous results! Go to the forums and read about bandsters from 2007, 2006 and before so you can get an idea of what successful banders have done. They are honest and they can be of great support. I wish you the best in your decision-making. Emily
  9. Had my surgery back in September and all is well (39 pounds lost). But I have the liquid diet stuff taking up room in my cupboards- would like to sell Vanilla Creme Bariatrix essentials by metagenics - bariatric meal, vanilla advanced protein powder and endura energy and rehydration formula. Each container 1/3 to 1/2 full. Should get you through the liquid phase no problem. $40 for all. Send a message if you are interested. I'm in downtown Toronto, very close to the TLBC centre.

    Fill Postponed

Well, I had an appointment for a fill today and I really need one because the fairly tight restriction I had after my first fill has evolved into very little restriction. But I am a hospital social worker and 45 minutes before my appointment there was an emergency (a death) and I had to postpone my appointment until next week. I read Donali's post and I agree that dieting is not healthy, but it is going to be very difficult to maintain my weight without it (and I haven't been doing well at dieting anyway. . .hence, the band). I have already re-gained three pounds. I know they say not to worry until you get good restriction, but that's hard! Nancy

    SNAP i can't believe it

Awe, that is so sweet. I have to admit, it brings me to tears when I watch it and that is several times a week. I just can't believe that is me in the new pictures....I keep expecting to see the fat lady reappear!!!
  12. Just thought I would post these really delicious Protein bars and if anyone else has favourites they recommend please tell us them. I use Protein Bars as a Meal Replacement several times a week if I am on the run or somewhere there is no good food choices to pick from. I only like them if they are really tasty and it satisfies my chocolate craving because they are solid they also keep me feeling full for a long time. My favourite so far is an energy bar called "six star body fuel" that has 15 g of protein. I love the double chocolate chip flavoured one that has a real brownie cake taste. It tastes best when you unwrap it and microwave on high for 10 seconds. It costs about $1.67 at the Real Superstores and at 45 grams it has only 170 calories. My next fave Protein Bar is "PowerBar triple threat", the Chocolate Caramel fusion flavour. It has 225 calories and 10 g of protein and is 53 grams. It sells for about $1.99 each at the Real Superstore. Donna VBG/87 Revised By Dr. Cobourn to Lapband/06 251/164/125 goal
  13. Hi everyone! I'm not quite sure if this is the right forum, but I'm sure its no biggie. I have just made an appointment with my doctor for a lap band consultation. Currently, I am 24 yrs. old at 5ft 3in and weigh 240lbs (109 kg). I have toiled over weight reduction surgery for the past 3 or 4 years. I was just wondering about a few things that maybe you all could help me with before I even go to my consultation. I know hair loss is very typical post-op, and is experienced differently person to person, but I was just wondering if your hair ever comes back? I was a Water polo player back in my high school days and the swim cap that I wore every day sort of contributed to a slight thinning of my hair, especially in the front, so I'm a bit concerned about if my hair will regain its natural thickness once my body has leveled out (protien levels and all that jazz). I was also wondering about pregnancy after the surgery. Have any of you women had children since you have been banded? I do plan on having children sometime in my life (preferably before I'm 30), and I was wondering if the band has any sort of complications with pregnancy. I've done a lot of self research on this, and I really think that this is the right choice for me. I've been the chubby girl my whole life, and I am the only one in my immediate family that has ever had a weight problem. Any advice or comments would be greatly appriciated!

Help me bama banders with preop diet

Don't worry, the 2 week diet will do wonders for your liver. It is not unusual to gain weight during the approval process (I gained 15lbs). Just do what your doctor says and keep coming back here for support, as well as, a good local support group. Congratulations! Looks like you will have the luck of the Irish on your side. =) Shawna

Fill has left me swollen and sore.......

well, I called my Dr this morning as I ave been so sore and hurting near my port. I was scared that my port gad flipped or something. They sent me to X-ray and my band is good, but I gave a huge hematoma due to the Dr pressing on my stomach and trying to get my fill last week. He apologized and gave me a script for pain meds.

    Happy Thanksgiving

Lindata, what a scary experience, especially with a little one with you! So glad you are all OK!! Shalee, I've been following your PS thread. Glad you're feeling better! I made Thanksgiving dinner at my house for about 12 people. Even though I sent home leftovers with my guests, we still had a lot leftover. Too much stuffing, yams, and pie did not help my efforts this week.
  17. Hey! I am going on the 12th too. They just called in fact and moved my 3 o'clock surgery to 8:30 in the morning. Okay, I don't have anything to tell you about life after, but I will tell you that I was thinking the exact same things as you. I have three kids and don't want to risk for a moment being around them for a long time, but in reality I am sort of guaranteeing that I will be here with them a lot longer after tomorrow. I have lost and gained and lost again only to gain it all back. This will be the help we need. I am sure of this at this point. In less than 24 hours we will both be on our way to being who we REALLY are. You will be fine. I am a big chicken but am just taken it minute by minute and I am determined to have a nice nap tomorrow and wake up sore, but feeling great! Can't wait to hear how you are doing. :scared2:
  18. Gland t meet you. I'm doing good, how about you? I was really suprized by the hunger I felt on day 2/3 but got a handle on it now. I'm supposed to be on the liquid diet until my appointment on the 27 but I have to admit I've cheated a little. Are you on liquids? According to the scale I've lost 20 so far, but its probably time to add exercise, yuck. (but a necessary evil)
  19. Stayed the same this week. Start: 184.4 Goal: 174.4 Week: 184.6, same as last week. NOT going to get there at this rate! Being sick and having to have an un-fill, messed me up! Have a great week!

    Not sure where to begin

Hi ladies, let me be the first to say that you are not alone. I work on this every single day. WLS no matter what type you have take a really big commitment from the individual as well as a total life style change. I know when we are on a weigh loss program or diet we hear this all the time, when you have WLS it becomes reality. If you are not willing to change your life then you are not going to be successful with your weight loss surgery tool any more than you would be with a diet. The Lapband can be a fickle partner that is true, and it takes that extra time and care to find that "right" level of fill that you can live with. If you are going to eat around your band then you are going to cause complications that in the long run can hurt you and cause your band to fail. My motto with the band is slow and steady wins the race. So try taking a step back from where you are today. Go back to the early days of pre- and post op. Reset and start again. That is the beauty of the band. You can "reset"!! Get back on that liquid diet you may have had pre-op or post op. When getting fills, go slowly. Try .05-1 cc at a time. Give it at least 2 weeks to a month to settle in before you go back for additional fills. See how your feeling and how food is passing. The point with the band is not to be so tight that you can't eat but to be just right so you are not "hungry" between meals and are satisfied with the small band portion of food. Start measuring out your food. Use Ziplock containers that have volume measurements on the side. Start tracking your in take with my fitness pal or one such app or just write it down or take a picture of all the food you are consuming and then take a look at that and determine if you are eating band size portions or over eating. Are you choosing nutrition whole food or fast food, greasy food, sugary slider type food? Are you eating too fast? Taking too large a bite? Did you drink enough Water? All these things factor into finding our balance with our bands and our weight loss journey. Feel free to come back and share your insights with us...and we can share with you as well. We are all on the path to finding what works and what doesn't and what we need. We are a "virtual" support group. I know I can't always make the "live" meetings, and I host them!!
  21. So I got approved and startmy liquid diet next monday! I found that GNC has AMAZING deals(buy 2get 1 on largew tubs andbuy 3 get 1 on single packs) on protien so tomorrow I go shopping! So anxious to start my new journey!
  22. Hi y'all.. .guess what??... I can log on here and finally post what I have been been reading from other for a year now..I HAVE A SURGERY DATE!!!!!! YEAH!!!!! March 17- St. Patrick's Day!!! I wish y'all could see the smile on my face as I am typing this- But, with that comes this great shadow of doom- the preop liver shrinking diet. I understand I need to drink liquids and eat one low fat meal a day such as grilled chicken and a salad. Will this work? I haven't been on the scales but I fear I've gained about 20 pounds over the last 9 months waiting to get my dr visits and preapproval done. Do you think I will be put on hold for the weight gain? And again, should I be able to do my liver anygood with a 2 week liquid diet? I feel like a fool.. help!

    Need encouragement

The good news is you are sticking with the prescribed "diet". Its not uncommon for newly banded people who are progressing to a different phase/level of foods to experience ups and downs for a few days or even a couple of weeks. You say you haven't went over 1000 calories in weeks, so no doubt you WILL see the losses starting back real soon. Simple math says that it must! Give yourself credit for the loss you have already. Before you know it, you'll be able to walk more and will see some scale movement. Hang in there! You sound like youre doing everything correct to me. CONGRATS!
