    Thiamine/B12 deficient??

My daily Vitamin is Berocca Performance, which has plenty of all the B Vitamins, magnesium, zinc and I can't remember what else. Vitamin D isn't a problem for me since I'd rather be outside than anywhere else and sunlight is the primary source of Vitamin D. I read somewhere that Vitamin D deficiency is more common as people stay inside more than they did in the past. Computers (yeah, they get blamed for everything, never mind that you have to actually USE the computer, LOL) are blamed for much of this. Berocca Performance is not manufactured for sale in the United States. I get it shipped to me. It's a product from Bayer Australia. It effervesces in Water and comes in three different flavors. I buy the orange and put a package of Crystal Light Citrus Splash in to truly hide the taste of the vitamins since the flavor added by Bayer does NOT cover it. And, what the heck, I add a dose of Benefiber for good measure.
  2. Hi. I was banded this past June. I had my first fill almost 2 weeks ago. So far, I've had just minimum restriction. I just had an experience and I wanted to ask if anyone else has experienced something similar: This evening I made broiled salmon fillets. They were probably between 8-9 oz. each. When I had it for dinner, when it was piping hot, I was able to finish the whole fillet. It was a very moist piece of salmon, it fell apart when you put the fork in. Just now, I had a little more however it had been refrigerated since dinner. I got that kind of "full" feeling after just 4 ounces (half the fillet). I'm assuming this is because the salmon was a little less moist since it was cold? So I guess my questions is, do you judge your restriction level and whether or not you're at your 'sweet spot' based on how hot foods go down or cold (since it seems there is such a big difference)? I also don't eat chicken or red meat, so my primary diet consists of seafoods and tofu (which makes me think I'll probably need more restriction than someone else who does eat meats). Perhaps this is why I don't have much restriction after my fill. Thanks in advance!
  3. hey guys, i am due to get banded on the 22nd of October - i work as a travel agent and have been offered a great trip to China - only 3 weeks after my surgery! has anyone travelled so soon after their banding? i would love to hear your stories :frown:
  4. I thought I would write to share an experiance I have been having. I find that I have gone to the store a few times since surgery and get lightheaded/head ache in the store. I spoke to the Dr about is and also the pshy. The shrink laughed and said that it is a reaction based off of how I used to shop. Anything and everything I wanted went in the cart and I would eat and eat till I had satisfied any craving I had or I developed while in the store. I would sometimes have a 8 course meal to accomplish all of the things I bought. 1st chips and dip, then a little potatoe salad you ge the idea. What I find the last few times is that I am spending a higher dollar for food and buying a lot less. Perhaps because I am buying in the early stages but none the less. I went to a restaurant for my sisters B-day last week and ate the broth off of a bowl of Soup and found that I did not have the same reaction at the restaurant, I was fine. Except for the onion rings and patty melt my sister ate...b***h! (Kidding) Well I thought I would share this and see if anyone else has had a similar experiance and what they did about it.

    Hello everyone

Welcome to LBT! Sounds like you're getting off to a great start. It's not at all unusual to have some stomach pain for a few weeks. Mine was at my port site. It would come and go, but adult strength liquid Tylenol would zap it. Even several weeks after surgery, I'd have a bit of pain now and then, but nothing that needed medication. Mostly I felt it if I had been sitting for an extended time. My fill have never hurt. I barely feel a pinch. Congratulations on your surgery, and keep up the good work.

    Hot Tub Question

4-6 week, until your wounds are healed and no scabs.
  7. Kime-lou

    Hot Tub Question

Like they said not for 4 - 6 weeks, you need to heal first. You can stick you legs in, just can't submerge your abdominal area. Also, be aware that once you do get back in - the hot tub will make you feel tighter, so don't get out and expect to eat soon after.
  8. Still a long way to go but thrilled with the progress so far! I have a lot to lose but down 140. I have had 3 fills. Following a low carb diet. I am finally feeling like doing more exercise. Committed to walking 4 times a week and strength training. I want to continue at the same pace of loss and know I need to add in the exercise. I am still reminding myself to chew chew chew, and stop when satisfied. I tend to want to eat the last few bites even when I have stop signals. Measuring, weighing and tracking all foods. Using My FittnessPal. Drinking 100 ozs of water a day. Joined an on line support group with a weekly weigh in to keep me accountable. Fighting the desire to eat between 8pm and 10pm. Readily available Protein snacks to keep me going. I continue to learn and make better choices. Hoping each of you are having success as well!!

    Preoperative diet

NYU dietician suggested up to six premier Protein shakes and 2 cups of vegetables a day. 2 tbsp fat free dressing. coffee with artificial sweetener and skim milk, sugar free popsicles. No carbs. I lost 10 pounds in two weeks and was never hungry. Those shakes are the best ones IMO. Sent from my Nexus 10 using the BariatricPal App

    Post-op diet

Yeah, I was moved from the liquids to purée after 10 days, when I was initially told 2 weeks. Cant say I was complaining though! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Good to know. I just feel like I'm tolerating everything really well, and would love to try a scrambled egg or something other than liquid. Obviously don't want to damage anything, but I know some docs advance their WLS patients quickly. I'm struggling over here When's your next apt? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Dr Appoint 2 weeks post op

Went to my Dr today, mostly because I went off of medication before surgery and needed to get back on something now that I am eating again (couldn't handle it with just liquid diet also it was making my B/P go up). I went last Dec 7th (5 weeks before surgery and 7 weeks ago today.) I am taking the last time I was there as my official before surgery wieght (even though the I'm sure the 5 weeks inbetween then and surgery I gained at least a couple pounds~ with all the last supper meals I got in) I wieghed 267 then I am now 257. Not bad for no pre op diet and really only one week of no eating. Another great accomplishment is my blood pressure was running high 180's/high 90's. Today it was 124/89! yahoo, the bottom number is still high but I think sometimes that has to do with being in a Dr's office b/c at home when I take it is closer to low 80's. I know that I have had MOSTLY liquids and also for the past week oatmeal and yogurt for almost 2 meals each day but I am hoping that I can keep it where it is or lower. I feel good today, physically and emotionally. I usually HATE going to the Dr's, ecspecially the scale but for the first time in a year seeing improvments gave me a boost. Last night was my first night back at work and it went O.K~ (long as always, but O.K). I had my Cream of Tomato soup with a little bit of l/f shredded mexican cheese on top really just a sprinkle, but I was satisfied all night, I usually make it about half way and then run to the vending machine for some comfort grazing but last night I didn't even think about it. My goal for the rest of the week is to get some good music on my MP3 and walk the garage on my lunch. I really need to work on getting some steps in, by the end of the day I am so tierd with being with the kids all day, house stuff, Logan's homework, dinner ready just in time to get out the door for a full shift at night. Off to put the girl to sleep and maybe if I'm lucky a 30min nap :bathbaby:

Thanks for the information. I will have 2 weeks off which is what I'm currently planning to take.
  13. Hey guys and gals!! Okay so here's my update complete with Before, and Current Pics. Let me say... so far AWESOME!! No complaints, no issues, all goodness so far. I'm shooting to get down to 220 or so, so 59 more to go, seems I'm losing 3-4 a week right now which is fantastic. Good luck to all!! If any guys in KC have any need for size 48 britches, and a whole mess load of 3x's shoot me a PM. Stay Strong All, Kevin

    Post op diet?

Liquids in the hospital (two days), purees immediately upon going home (although they said I could stay on liquids for a day or two more if I wanted). Stayed on purees for a week and was on to soft solids for a month. After that I was cleared for a general diet.
  15. Hi all! I’m currently three weeks with my little banana and I’m on soft food. So yesterday I tried an egg scrambled and I felt rubbish. So I just had a couple of ounces of cottage cheese for lunch and dinner and my tummy settled. So today I really didn’t feel great light headed and generally lethargic so I decided to make some extra lean mince beef and it went down fine. I took it super easy and I feel great. I feel warm and I have energy. I just thought it was weird that I couldn’t stomach one soft scrambled egg but I managed a serving spoon of mince? The body is crazy. Total loss since post op diet is 36lbs!

    Post op diet!

Don't write them off if you enjoy them. Just give yourself another week or 2 before giving them another go.

    Post Op Pain

I was banded on June 29. It's been a week today. Most of the incisions hardly can feel. But the one which i believe is probably right underneath the band is pretty tender. Also there is a hard knot underneath the incision. Is that the band? Also feel pretty bloated all the time between navel and chest. Just wanting to make sure these things are normal. Was banded in Mexico since insurance won't pay and ao i don't have a dr. I can run and see for everything. Thanks

    Questions on First Month Pre-op

I was banded on May 24th; my first fill is Jul 6th. My pre-op weight: 230 My weight this morning: 205 It is vital during this period especially that you do not drink anything 30 min before eating anything, and wait an additional 30 min after eating. It took me about a week and a half to get this concept down; it's a difficult habit to get in to (was for me). Also 3 weeks post-op I started an exercise routine. Walking 30 min a day, then switched to water aerobics. I felt I was able to eat way too much but the doc says I'm still losing so not to worry. He said he would give me the max fill on Jul 6th. Seriously, I'm able to eat pretty much anything I want and about 4 or 5 cups per meal. I am eating heathly though. No liquid calories, lots of fruit and vegetables and lean meat. Best of luck to you.

    Mirena affecting weight loss?

I saw my OB yesterday and she said that of all her patients that has had weight loss surgery and the IUD, none of them had reported any weight gain. She doesn't think that the Mirena is affecting me adversely. And I'm not gaining weight, I'm just stalled. She told me to keep and eye on my progress and if it's an issue, she'll pull it. I have no other side effects from it otherwise so I would hate to have it removed, but if it's hindering my progress, it has to go.
  20. My husband and I both had our surgeries on Dec 8 2011 with Dr. Ramos-Kelly at the Hospital MI in Tijuana. We went together, with no one else. We called it a "date-surgery" and had a great time over the course of 5 days. No issues, we thought the hospital was just fine (though small), the staff were great and Dr. Kelly was the best. No complications, we were well taken care of medically, and had no problems in the hotel (Pueblo Amigo). We also went shopping on our own on our last day there. We have talked about this issue many times over the past 7 weeks and feel that having the surgery done at the same time was the best decision for us. Your body, diet and mind are going to go through great changes and it is great to have someone who can relate directly. We understand exactly how each other feels, and the changes have already greatly impacted our entire family (3 kids, ages 10, 12, 15) in several positive ways. Hubby has lost around 65 pounds, and I have lost 43. I cannot speak for the safety of the Monterrey area, but hope you will have your inlaws brings lots of things to do during your stay. Pre-surgery, we were both kept very busy with pre-op tests, labs, MD visits, etc. Post-op, it was meds, sleep, pee, walk for 2 days. Hope the inlaws won't be expecting good company from you and your wife because you will be busy recuperating. Maybe you could research some touristy things for them to do during your post op period. Personally, it would have driven me crazy to have someone there 'watching me sleep'. Unfortunately, no long term advise, but so far so good. I really feel like the lady from Seattle posted the totally negative post did Dr. Garcia/Hospital Mi no favors. I can't believe that her and I went to the same facility...maybe her expectations were too high? Not sure where she has received care anywhere in the US, but our medical care in TJ was far superior to any I have had here in the US...guess she was having a bad day? Good luck on your journey.

    Taking Metformin

Not about meds, but about drinking before meals. The dietician at my surgeon's office calls it Water loading. She said to drink 4-8 ozs of water immediately before a meal, then nothing 60 min. after. I guess the idea is the water will make you feel fuller and you will eat less during the meal. She even mentioned going to a restaurant and sipping on water while waiting for your entree. I'm only 3 weeks out and still on mushies and have not eaten out yet, so I'm no expert. I have a follow-up appt next week and will meet with her and move to phase 3...REAL FOOD!!! So...I would think takings meds right before a meal would be appropriate.
  22. I'm 7 days post opt and I'm having a difficult time with this clef liquid diet. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to cope during these first weeks? Also I know I'm not getting all the protein I need. The shakes are not doing it for me anymore.?
  23. Yesterday I completed my last requirement before surgery... all day nutrition class. My surgery is scheduled for next Thursday 8/18. I was a ball of nerves yesterday. Learning about nutrition and portion sizes... learning about giving myself Lovenox injections after surgery... getting the list of supplements I will be taking for the rest of my life. It was a long day and I was overwhelmed with a pounding headache when I got home. Today is totally different! A strange calm has taken over. I am so happy! No more hurdles to jump over. I am there I have had the morning to myself (kiddos at school) to really think and remember all my reasons for doing this. I can't wait to start this journey. I know it won't be easy but I am ready for the challenge! I hope this happy calm stays with me through next week!

    Post op diet

I was on Clear Liquids for the first day in the hospital, then advanced to full liquids by the time I was discharged. Full liquids for the 1st 3 weeks, then puree for a week, then mush and I am starting to introduce solids. My full liquid go-to items were Jello, diluted pudding with Protein powder mixed in, Protein shakes with greek yogurt blended in, diluted yogurt, cream soups. I got some of the Gerber multigrain baby Cereal as well - apple/sweet potato - that mixed with milk and some Protein Powder to the right texture was pretty good. My next stage go-to foods have been pasta-less lasagna - cooked chicken breast, ricotta, and a couple of tablespoons of spaghetti sauce zipped down into dip texture in the Ninja blender; tuna salad made with albacore, homemade zucchini relish, and lowfat olive oil mayo - also zipped down into dip texture in the Ninja; cottage cheese, eggs cooked anyway I like (mostly poached and over easy), undiluted yogurt. Hummus is good. My sister just picked the last of the season's squash from her garden, so I'll get to enjoy some of that in the coming days.
