    pain while sitting

I am finding I hurt sitting also. I was banded just last week, the 17th and went back to work the 24th. I work in an office and sit for 8 hours. Sometimes I have pain, which I assumed was trapped gas, but perhaps it is the sitting.

    Reflux and pain

Actually it is ironic that you mention the kidneys because I have some renal calc and renal failure in one of my kidneys but this pain in my back is higher up. They did a bunch of lab tests last week because they were thinking that I might have pancreatitis again but that was negative. I go to my PC today and hope we can find some answers. The pain in my upper left abdomen is above and to the left of where the band port is. You even touch me there and I scream. I am thinking that i am going to have this thing taken out and think about a revision

    Protein drink

Dr. Benavides has put me on Myocel two weeks prior to surgery. He is located in Richardson. Or you can buy it from Dr. Garwood in College Station. He had something to do with inventing it. It mixes pretty well with alot of things. I have tried orange juice an skim milk. You can add ice cubes and hit it with a blender to make smoothies. I know it can be added to yogurt also if you like. It comes in 3 flavors. Chocolate, Strawberry, and Vanilla. I have the vanilla. Just make sure it is blended REALLY well or you get powder chunks. Remember Orange Julius? try mixing the vanilla with OJ...yummy! oh yeah, runs $35 for 3.3 pounds of this stuff. Dr Garwood's number is 979-485-0395

    Super Tight!

I was banded the day before you! My loss has been really slow, as well. I'm still searching for that "sweet spot" that will prevent me from being hungry all the dang time! I've found that my fills actually tend to tighten up as time goes on, so I've been waiting for three to four weeks between fills. I think that some people experience a loss of restriction as swelling from the stomach irritation due to Fluid being added to the band goes down. As with so many other things in this journey, I think that it's a really individual experience!
  7. I am scheduled for surgery this week and although I have researched the proceedure for over a year, I just watched an actual lapband surgery being done online. I didnt realize that they stitch the stomach up over the band to hold it in place. Is this always done? It is the first I have heard of this and am wondering if all doctors do this or not. I cant believe that I was never told about this part of the proceedure. Can anyone fill me in on this?

    Lapband W/ Plication

OK - I got banded with Plication (and hernia removal at the same time) on 7-7-11. I am doing great. down 106 pounds and counting. I returned to work 3-4 days after my surgery and it was done as an outpatient. FYI, I am no kid either - 61 yrs old. doing great and very glad I had it done all at one time. Melinda in Florida

    Inches Vs Pounds

I've also learned to stay OFF the scale. Nothing is more frustrating. Right after the banding, I couldnt stop myself from stepping onto the scale every single day. Then I weaned down to a couples times a week, and now I've been doing it once a week. Today would have been my weekly weigh in, but I'm holding off now and trying to do it 2x month. Better yet, let the Doc weigh me at my visits! The best thing to trust is the way your clothes fit (mine are significantly looser), as well as the comments from family, friends, and coworkers. Those two things mean more to me than any old number on the scale ever could. Good Luck to us all.. Peggy

Banded 2 years ago..no weight loss

i have to agree with sherryA the way you eat and EXERCISE is so important that the band will not help unless you do both. i been banded since july 08 and i lost about 43 lbs so far but this last two months i have been having a hard time losing anything so i started up at the gym this last two weeks and its been good but still hard to lose i didnt understand it but now i get it its not only about doing hard workouts but its more about staying active as much as you can. now i can eat whatever i want seems like and as much as i want i have had only one fill in august but i been feeling those hungry pains and what i have been doing is eating a bit more but burning the calories i ate just by walking around and doing extra chores and so forth around the house instead of just sitting on the couch and watching tv or playing on the computer.i hope everything works out for you and put some faith in yourself that you can do this and use the band as a tool not as something bad karen

    Mom of a Toddler

Thanks for all the advice ladies! I truly appreciate it! It would be very difficult to take him out the bed with me because we just moved into a new house and he's still adjusting. I don't know how long it will take him to be completely comfortable in our new house. Anyway, I hope that he will understand I have an "ouchie" on/in my tummy. We are together 24/7 - aside from his two half days a week at preschool - so it's really going to be rough for him to now hang all over me.

Puget Sound Bariatric Center's Pre-Op Diet

I don't know what your surgeon's office requires, but if you want to get a start before Monday, I can tell you what I was allowed. Four high Protein shakes per day (I used EAS Carb AdvantEDGE from Target), and one solid meal consisting of 4 ounces of lean protein, 1 cup steamed veggies, 1 cup salad, and 3 ounces of a starch such as potato, rice, or 1 slice of bread. No butter, oil, cheese, margarine, or added fat. Also no sugar (artificial sugar like splenda is OK). You can have skim milk in coffee, but not to exceed 1 cup per day. 70 ounces of Water or decaf tea per day. Hope this helps!

    Gas Pain

I think it's up to a week post op. Try gas x strips. Easy and effective.

    Gas Pain

Well, my gas pains were there well into a month out of surgery. NOT as bad as the first week out, but I still had them. I walked A LOT at night too. Try getting on all fours and sticking your butt up in the air....putting your head down, support your stomach with something. This helped me and still does if I have gas.

1st fill is given 6-8 weeks after surgery. This is standard practice.

my doctor filled the first time after 6 weeks as well. He only filled 1/2 cc for the first time and i go in 11/12 for my second fill. He said that we would go on with this until we felt that i had reached restriction. I am having a little trouble stopping at 1/2 to 3/4 of a cup but continue to make myself stop eating. I am looking forward to another fill! lherstine

    Conservative Doctor

My doctor (Ortiz, TJ Mexico) had me wait 6 weeks from surgery for my first fill. After that it is a minimum of two weeks between fills. However, he uses floroscopy which makes it easier to estimate a proper fill. After 3 weeks if you don't have the desired restriction, you should be able to request a fill. 2 months is conservative.

My first fill was one month after..he added 3cc's in a 10cc aps band. Second one was 2 weeks later...1 more cc. Third fill on will be 1 month at a time until restriction..1 cc each time. Slow process..it's hard to wait. I have another 2 weeks until the next one. :bored

    very discouraged!!!

Well I do feel restriction but its not the kind I hear everybody talk about its like after a few minutes I feel it going through. No I don't think its physically hard to inject more saline he told me I have a 3 cc band so im basically at the end of my rope with fills---thats the way I took it. I really feel like he got my money b/c I was a self pay and my one year warranty is up so I really don't think he gives a rip. But what really makes me mad every time I go in now I have to pay $100 and with two little ones that $100 is alot for us!!! What does a slipped band feel like? maybe I have that... who knows. Also when I was pregnant I don't just have morning sickness I have like all day most every day sickness and I threw up at least once a day not to the band just pregnancy stuff so I wonder if that messed something up..I mentioned that but he never seemed to care.

    Beyond Frusterated!!

Ok, so I am 7 months past surgery and only 28-30 pounds down!! I mean I know the band is not bypass so I am not expecting super dropping of numbers but I have had 2 months solid with no dropping at all. I am pretty realistic. My eating could be a bit better but at most I have a few oreos a week. I've had fast few a handfull of times since my surgery and if you look at my eating habits prior to surgery and now WOW, what a differance. What is really frusterating is I have just completed my first 5K, that is 3 miles, so fo the past 3 weeks I have been doing the 3 miles everyday with the exception of 2 days a week (3 one week). This is rediculous. If you look at my lifestyle before I am so drastically differant. PLUS, I didnt get a fill this month the last time I got one was 6 month and I am up to 7 1/2 cc's. I vomit pretty much every time I eat, not all but ALOT. So you think at the very least I should be dropping from that. I made a appt to see my doc but I am pretty upset with this whole thing. Agian I am not expecting to wake up tomorrow skinny but I feel like so much effort is put into this for very little. Anyone out there have the same effect??? or troubles???

    March 2022 surgery buddies

I am super super excited!! I'm having trouble sleeping at this point. I'm so damn calm, no anxiety. My approval process for revision was around 3 weeks from the day I had the endoscopy to the day I got the phone call telling me the good news. With the kind of reflux damage I have surgery almost always happens. I had a second scope a few weeks ago and the damage had gotten worse, not better. However, the ulcers did heal thanks to the medication they put me on. I didn't really have any food funerals. I had a few things I wanted to eat one last time, but was very underwhelmed with all of it. Yes, there will be some food I'll miss but I've been wanting to get sugar out of my diet anyhow. I'm more ready for the change this time than for my sleeve 7 years ago. I'd love to lose another 25 pounds to get down to 160. I think it's very realistic. Are you having any food funerals or are you kinda sick of food as thus point? Sent from my Z6201V using BariatricPal mobile app

Hi Flower, Vines is right! Very few people feel restriction with just the band - most of us need 1 or 2 or 3 or more fills to gain that restricted feeling. Sad, I know. I thought the same thing when I was banded - thought I got a defective tool. As much as we pay our doctors, this is one thing they need to tell us prior to surgery: you will NOT get restriction until your first fill!

    Conservative Doctor

I'm glad I read your post Suzy... my Dr. is super conservative... as I found out yesterday. I was denied my first fill at my 7 week follow up. He said I'm losing 2-3lbs per week and don't need one right now. At first I was all butt hurt about it, I guess I really wanted a fill to fell like a true bandster... but if JUST the band is working for me... then I guess that's good enough for me. I'm set to go back on Jan. 9th, we'll see how it goes then. Since my denial yesterday I've been thinking a lot and analyzing my restirction. I can eat about 1/2 -3/4 cup at a time, but I get hungry within 2-3 hours. So I was hoping for a fill that would help keep me full longer maybe... but i'm not sure that's how it's supposed to work. He says that it's good that I eat 4-6 1/2 cup portions per day to keep my metabolism up as long as I'm staying within my Calorie limits. So I guess I'm ok and still part of the club. I read up above someone saying they didn't get fills but were still losing weight by will power alone... I fear that... If I was going to lose weight with will power alone, i wouldn't have considered the band. I need that tool with my will power you know... My sick mind... at fist I thought, fine I'll stop losing weight just so I can get a fill. How sick is that. I instantly talked myself out of that silly idea. strange where the mind goes sometimes...

    Conservative Doctor

Mine is quite conservative, he has filled me when I've asked which has never been closer together than eight weeks anyway, as I tend to be conservative on it too. He's filled me even though I've lost weight consistently in that time because as I pointed out the weight loss had been great at first then waned. He'd fill me now if I really wanted him to. But he doesnt give big fills, 0.5 for the first two fills and after that they've all been 0.2 or so. Its suited me fine.
